I need Gift ideas for my nephew who is roughly 6 mos old. I live near a major city so have most major chains near by. I'm looking for $ 20.00 or less range.

I like the saving bond idea and maybe a token little toy -- my DS played with stacking cups for a long, long time and they are about $3. It's not like your nephew is going to know what you gave him or even that it's Christmas, but your sibling (or your DH's) will. :goodvibes

Clothes if you know his size, soft blocks, toys that play music when you push buttons or the like. Stuff he can grow into is always nice for little ones.

Do you gals/guys have any ideas on cute stacking sets or toys that he may like. I will probably get him and outfit and a toy of some sort. It's my Brothers kid.
I would love savings bond idea but my brother can't be trusted not to lose paperwork to it.

How about these Lamaze toys? My kids loved them. There is a nice block one, that he can play with the small blocks and when he gets older put them into the larger block. And they have all different textures for good sensory input.

If they are into sports a nice little outfit of the favorite sports team, would be cute.

Of course anything Disney would be cute too!

eating stuff:
sippy cups
baby spoons
sectioned plate

There's a toy called a Clutch Cube (I think Lamaze makes it) that we give out to just about everyone we know when they have a baby. Our kids all had one and loved it. It's basically a small cube with little flaps and designs on it.

I think it's about $15.

He's a little young for it, but Fisher Price makes an Elmo see and say with shapes that you put in it for about $15 at Target. My 21 month old twins play with that more than any other toy.

This is popular too:

I got my cousin a V-Tech toy, yes they have them for 6 month old.

My son is 9 months right now and has just recently begun to get fascinated with toys...
STilll...the best and faves are a teether :goodvibes :goodvibes -
anything he can bang on...or something that plays music...

My son loved a toy called "poppin pals". It had characters that would pop up when you either pressed a button, flipped a switch, etc. He was fascinated with this toy from about 6 months on. I would even put it in his car seat with him and it would keep him busy.

plastic blocks, cardboard boxes, bright magazine pages, things to put in their mouth, washcloths, things that make noise...

How about Little People sets? the farm has been a hit for the first 3.. I'm sure it will with #4 when he's older..

baby einstein video.
Personally I think this as well as the savings bond are a bad idea. Savings bonds get lost and are not immediately usable. Videos of any kind are usually out for most kids under 2. Pediatricians do not recommend it for those younger than that.
