Christmas Eve Eve-What's on your 'To-Do' List?

errands run but the line was already down the block at the pie shop :scared1: everyone in line was in good spirits and polite though-i guess they took to heart the email/text that was sent out to customers warning that anyone who got grumpy, rude or impolite would be given a hug, a refund and NOT any pies (which when you consider some sold out within a day of the pre-orders last month means losing out on something you really want).

got my last couple of gifts, learned at the bank that they are limiting how many rolls of pennies each customer can buy (thought it would be funny to put in each stocking as a 'collectors item'-good thing I came in under the limit).

home now, pasta is cooked-kicking back and watch TV with the oldest.

We've started a new tradition of having our Christmas dinner on Christmas Eve. Then on Christmas day, after opening gifts, we eat left overs,
that's largly why we get a honey baked ham-not so much for holiday dinner but b/c we like eggs benedict and omelets and other breakfast foods over the holidays. gooooood stuff.
Thanksgiving Redo. Our oven caught fire the day before Thanksgiving and my DD was bogged down in grad school work so we moved it (I am a big believer in redoing events if need be). Turkey is roasting in the oven. Last minute cleaning for company. Lifetime Xmas movie on the TV.

oooh I bet your kitchen/house smells so good-nothing like a turkey roasting in the (working) oven. enjoy!!!

congratulations to the cougs and all their fans for their victory yesterday over utah state winning the 'idaho potato bowl' (I will forgive your game and it's pre-game/game/post-game coverage preempting everything I listen to or watch).

Time for wrapping, and I make the same dad joke every year (*makes bad beatbox rapping noises*)
I did that yesterday. Overall it took about six hours, by the time I found boxes that would fit and then wrapped them. One gift is kind of big and heavy, and it was a bear to get the paper on straight (it was striped paper), but I was happy when it was all done.

We were supposed to go down to DS/DIL/GrD house, dinner, church, spend the night to see GrD first Christmas morning.

But they all got sick over last weekend. So we are sliding our arrival to Christmas Day morning assuming they continue improving. - I will take breakfast casseroles.

So, DH and I will go to our church Christmas Eve and open a couple of personal gifts.

Husband went out to get a haircut and got the gift cards we needed for the people who were wanting them as gifts. He got the few groceries we needed for Christmas Eve dinner because that's when we do the meal at my mother-in-law's place rather than on Christmas.

We do breakfast on Christmas morning with mother-in-law but instead of doing our normal IHOP stop (because they are one of the few places open on Christmas) we're doing it at sister-in-law's house about 5 mins our house this year. She didn't request us bring anything when we asked her what to bring for breakfast.

For tonight it's leftover chili and either watching a Christmas movie tonight (as we've been catching up on those) or a Harry Potter movie as we started that around Thanksgiving watching each of the movies. I believe we're on the part one of Deathly Hallows.

As usual everything hasn't gone quite as planned but I'm done with all the shopping, wrapping, and food buying. I just made sausage balls for Xmas morning brunch and will throw together a tater tot casserole in the morning for the same. I ran out and got a few games to play on Eve and Day earlier today.

My father in law is in the hospital and my whole family is coming to my house for Eve and Day so we will go to the hospital tomorrow morning. Then I'll come home and my mom and son will arrive and I'll put out some light appetizers. Then later in the evening my brother, sis in law, and nephew will come and I'll do heavier apps like tamales, queso, pizza bites, etc. We will wake up Xmas morning and I'll prepare and heat the brunch spread while we open stockings and gifts. I know when I make it to around noon on Xmas that I can break out the Prosecco, enjoy my family, and really relax :) .

Plus lots of scientific gibberish lol…
LOL. My Primary Care Doctor and Cardiologist made me switch from eating eggs to eating egg beaters. My cholesterol is all now within the "safe" range eating this:

Ingredients

Egg Whites, Food Starch-Modified, Less than 1% of: Corn Oil*, Xanthan Gum, Guar Gum, Beta-Carotene, Calcium Carbonate, Ferric Orthophosphate (iron), Tocopherols, Alpha-tocopherol Acetate (vitamin E), Zinc Sulfate, Calcium Pantothenate, Riboflavin (Vitamin B2), Vitamin A Palmitate, Thiamine Mononitrate (vitamin B1), Pyridoxine Hydrochloride (Vitamin B6), Vitamin B12, Folic Acid, Biotin, Vitamin D3. *Adds a negligible amount of fat.

It’s 7:33pm and I’m waiting for my DD22 to come for us to go driving around looking at Christmas lights - it’s our yearly tradition ❤️ :goodvibes

I have the utmost admiration for anyone who still has outdoor holiday decor around us. people seemed to put stuff up as soon as thanksgiving dinner was cleared from the table only to have winds kick up a week later with gusts in the 40's and 50's so many people were repairing/resetting over the next few days. we went out a few days following that wind and it was lovely. the following week we broke our historical wind speed record with gusts of 75 mph. I figured that was going to be the end of most displays but driving at night this week-they are back up:lovestruc

Our next door neighbors put theirs up the day after Halloween! They have had to do a lot of repairs as snowmen and wiseman blew over.

As much as I grew to despise the ex and by extension, his country for a time, I love many of its customs and foods 🤷🏽‍♀️. Never gave up the need to celebrate Réveillon, the late night CE repast after church where at least one holiday gift is opened. Won’t be revealing any presents but do plan to eat well during a shared FaceTime with younger son in Stuttgart and DGD in Paris. Technology is great!

My youngest son and I went to Walmart and another grocery store today. I was looking for something for my BIL since it's his birthday on the 24th. (my oldest sister passed in 2009 and he's 75). My son asked me why I wasn't making him my mom's fruitcake. It's just a brown sugar type with raisins and nuts only and really good. So, tonight I made 5 of them in loaf pans. Funny thing my daughter just told me that I never realized, all the men like it and the women don't. My bil, his brother that lives with him, my oldest son and youngest son. I bagged up all the gifts and put them in the corner waiting to go to my son's on Christmas. I had to also buy an extra 2 gift cards as my oldest son got engaged on Thanksgiving and she's got a 16 year old daughter. Tomorrow is the finishing up day and unfortunately, it's going to be raining. My daughter's and I are going to drop off gifts for BIL, go to WinCo for needed stuff and maybe stop by See's to get more chocolate.

My DD is a Coug alumni.....:teeth:
And some of that cheese is in my outside fridge, all wrapped for DH. One of her presents to him.

First I will brave the grocery store this morning to pick up some items... then more cookie baking.....

still trying to decide what to make for dinner...

we usually open one present on the Eve.... so there is that. Will stuff the stockings.

Then my husband and I are going to finish the last two episodes of Foundation season 1

The last thing I will need to do will be to move all the presents from under the tree to their couch spots and add the stockings. Having adult kids means I can do this at a reasonable hour and my daughter will help

I never cleaned the bathroom yesterday so I’m going to do that this morning. My mom ordered a juniors cheesecake so I won’t be making a cheesecake today. I’m going to make my dad an eggnog Bundt cake for him to have for breakfast tomorrow. I need to do a little food prep for tomorrow too.

Hoping to be done with things this morning so I can enjoy the rest of the day. With that said DH had a long work day yesterday so I’m letting him sleep in and haven’t started on my to do list.

Our big family Christmas gathering with our children/grands/great grands is January 10th this year so today and tomorrow will be very low key for us. We do a Christmas getaway each year as our gift to each other, and this year we chose Nashville. We are here for the week, staying in a beautiful little cabin at Evergreen Farm. We’ve been here before, and just love it. It’s 100 acres, owned by a sweet German lady. Beautiful landscaping, peacocks roaming the grounds, a pond, etc. and she bakes fresh bread and has a loaf delivered to the cabin each morning. So beautiful and peaceful.

Yesterday we did Broadway downtown. Enjoyed an early lunch and music at Lainey Wilson’s Bell Bottoms Up, walked the street, enjoyed drinks and music a couple other places. Things change every time we are here, but we still enjoy it. Today we are going out for lunch, and hit Kroger for a few things. Christmas morning we will have a small fire in the fireplace and open our gifts to each other. We put a limit of $20, I got DH the new John Grisham book “The Widow” and a bag of holiday M&M’s. We plan to go out to a Chinese restaurant for lunch, then come back to the farm and do some walking. Really enjoying the warmer temperatures here, up to 72 today and tomorrow. Much better than Michigan😁
