Christmas Eve/Christmas Day menus

This all sounds yummy! I love these threads!

My folks and I go out for dinner on Christmas Eve as they host the family on Christmas Day. It's usually the Palm, or Ruth's Chris. Beef tenderloin, salmon are for Christmas day lunch with she-crab soup starter.

ETA: There is a vegan pasta dish and all the sides in the world...I like the food at Christmas.

Hey...I ate at Sinema Friday night. Was really good. :)

Christmas Eve is ham, green beans, sweet potato casserole, various other sides, and red velvet cake. Christmas morning is sausage balls and fruit. The rest of the day is leftovers and Chinese takeout.

Christmas Eve we will have Chinese or order a pizza.
I make a couple breakfast casseroles (1 sweet and 1 savory) for Christmas morning.
I'm thinking of doing a prime rib roast for dinner but I've never cooked one before. I hate to "experiment" for Christmas dinner LOL
Maybe I'll just get some prime rib steaks and grill them, that I've done before.

There is only the 2 of us now, so I really don't know. I used to make seafood chowder for Christmas eve, but that's a lot of seafood for 2 people. Christmas was always one of two options: Prime rib or roast lamb, or a variety of snzcky-appetizer type things... but not anymore. You can't buy a roast small enough for 2 people, if you want it to roast decently, and a roast that is big enough for roasting properly is too much meat for 2 of us. I'm thinking of doing a couple of appetizer-type things, but it won't be the big spread it used to be when we'd have more people here for the holiday. I like the casualness of our new Christmas, but I miss the excitement of having family here for the holiday!

Christmas Eve is appetizers including stuffed mushrooms and a nacho tray. Last year we were invited to a friend's open house and we just brought our stuff over to share. It seems that will be a new tradition. My kids were very pleased.

Christmas Day is quiche and some kind of baked casserole (French toast) for breakfast, dinner is at my house for about 12 and includes a roast, a ham, some type of potatos, carrots, and asparagus as well as dessert.

Then the evening crowd of siblings and cousins come by for more appetizer type foods like shrimp and cocktail sauce, cheese tray, pigs in a blanket, frozen Friday's Appetizers etc.

Super easy to do and one of the best things out there. You can hardly mess it up and there's recipes all over on how to do it. The biggest factor in the success is how good the quality of the beef is. If it's low-grade, it won't be that good. The last two years, I purchased mine at Costco and it was phenomenal. One year I paid a lot more money and went to a butcher and it was somewhat tough and lacking in flavor.

Christmas Eve is fondue (oil) with steak and cheese. Sides are green bean casserole, smoked oysters, chips and dip, etc. it's kind of weird but a longstanding tradition!

Christmas morning we have ham and cheese croissants for breakfast, and this year for lunch we'll have a turkey since we didn't get one at Thanksgiving (we were at WDW!) We often have standing rib roast and Yorkshire pudding on Christmas, but not this year...

December 23rd is a bigger deal for us than the 24th. On that night Santa parades through our small town of 2,200 on the back of one of the town’s fire trucks. We have a really decadent pasta carbonara on that night. It’s the only time I cook it. It’s super easy but horrible for you.

Christmas Day this year we’re having glazed ham, green beans, cheesy potatoes (haven’t chosen the recipe yet), rolls, stuffed and baked apples and Kentucky Bourbon barrel cake from Trader Joe’s.

So many great ideas. Looking forward to continued reading. Hope it sparks some ideas for me. I love the idea of nibbling. Maybe I can do trays of apps ahead of time? The kids love sushi. The sticking point is needing the food ready ahead of time. Not in the mood for pizza this year though. Chinese would be fun, but we can’t do Asian because of allergies with dd.

Something that is fun-- and simple-- is a big tray of Swiss Colony cheese and sausage with crackers. They come with good little desserts (like petit fours) too!

Christmas Eve is at my house, with around 30 people. We will have sushi and dumplings for appetizers, shrimp, scallop, and lobster fettuccine Alfredo for dinner and baklava for dessert.

Christmas morning is just the 4 of us. I will make French toast. Dinner is at my mother-in-law’s house and will be a traditional Christmas dinner.

Big turkey dinner with around 17 people here on CE. Next day big turkey dinner with the ILS and 21 people. Fun times!

Christmas Eve we do a big party with lots of family after church, so it's a a huge buffet of appetizers and desserts. Christmas day we do a french toast breakfast casserole in the morning, then for dinner a charcuterie platter, then a honey ham with lots of sides (usually mashed potatoes, green beans, turnip, squash, macaroni and cheese) and pumpkin pie for dessert!

We're hosting 17 people on Christmas Day this year...

Ham
Scalloped potatoes
Golabki
Pierogies

Swiss veggie casserole

Other people will be bringing the appetizers...MIL is bringing pies, and we're getting Junior's mini cheesecakes for dessert as well.

We often have Polish foods on Christmas Eve.

Going to my cousin's for Christmas Day. I expect she'll serve ham.

This year will just be two of us. I am not sure what we will have for Christmas Eve. Perhaps go out for Chinese food. Christmas morning will be French toast casserole made with home made bread. For dinner we will have turkey croquttes, salad and some other vegetation.
Growing up we had huge Christmas gatherings. The 23’d was Dad’s side of the family with lots of peopel but just snacks and cookies, cakes and candy. Christmas Eve was with Mom’s side of the family (7 brothers and sisters and friends and what not) with hors douerves and goodies. Cristmas morning was just Mom Dad and us kids with linguica and eggs for breakfast. Christmas Dinner was with Mom’s side of the family and extended family and friends. As with many families this all slowly curtailed as people died and cousins and close family moved away. The variety if foods was great. I loved everyones variations on stuffing, veggies, gravy...well I didn’t like gravy growing up, and so many wonderful desserts.

Christmas Eve is pizza and snacks after Church. Christmas breakfast is always eggs Benedict and mimosas! Dinner will be roast beef and all the fixings.

I'm intrigued by the thought of homemade cinnamon rolls for breakfast. I've never tried to make these so I'm wondering if they are very difficult. My baking expertise is a bit spotty. :teeth:
