So - whats on your Christmas dinner menu??

I just sent out a family wide email saying that we will be doing Christmas dinner (as well as breakfast :rotfl: ). We will have 8 adults and 2 children. I don't know what I should make. I was thinking of Yorkshire Pudding, but is that to hard??? Maybe I should do turkey and all that.... Maybe prime beef.... I don't know!!!

So the question remains...

Whats on your Christmas dinner menu??

Prime Rib- mashed potato- baby peas- yeast rolls- and then more of all of that.

For dessert... some kind of pie... maybe more prime rib instead..... decisions decisions....

I like me some beef... that's for sure!!!

I'll cook on Christmas Eve for 6-8 people. We'll do some sort of roast beef, probably a prime rib roast.

On Christmas Day, they all come to my house (20+) but we'll have brunch, then graze all day.

I always do Yorkshire puddings-even with Turkey! But then I am British and my family love them;)

They are easy!

Oooh - since your so experienced..... is this a good recipe???

Ingredients
2 cloves garlic
Freshly ground salt
1 teaspoon ground ginger
1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1/2 teaspoon ground cardamom
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1 teaspoon black pepper
1 (8-pound) prime rib
Clarified butter
For pudding:
2 cups flour
Freshly ground salt
4 eggs
2 1/2 cups milk
Directions
Combine garlic, salt to taste, ginger, nutmeg, cardamom, cinnamon and pepper. Make incision in between rib bones and fill with spice mixture. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.

For pudding: Sift together flour and salt in bowl. Make well in center and add eggs. Combine, gradually adding milk to form a smooth batter. Cover for 1 hour.

Meanwhile, place meat in small baking dish, brush with clarified butter and cook for 1 hour, 35 minutes. Increase heat to 400 degrees. Remove beef and place on large, shallow ovenproof serving dish. Pour pan drippings around meat and heat on stove until drippings begin to smoke. Pour Yorkshire batter right into drippings surrounding meat and bake for 40 minutes.

Last year I had everyone wear their pjs and I made a huge breakfast (but nicer than usual). I made a praline french toast casserole, breakfast casserole, cheese danish, mimosas...so breakfast, but a really nice version!

While I am sure these are wonderful...they are pretty involved and not traditional if that matters? Mine are simple and the last few times I have used Nigella Lawson's recipe and they are big and pop up wonderfully!

We do a Christmas brunch

Breakfast Lasagna
coffee cake
sausage balls
shrimp
bloody marys

And then for dinner:
Prime rib
twice baked potatoes
vegies vary from year to year.

dessert on Christmas is usually cheesecake, and a carrot cake, along w/ homemade cookies.

I bake the day before - Christmas Eve and we do a buffet. Cabbage Rolls with sauerkraut, Turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes, glazed carrots, green salad and relish tray. We have apple kuchen, pecan pie and tons of Christmas cookies and fudge for dessert. Our family is of German descent so we always have to have some of our favorites for everyone. :)

Ham
collard greens with ham hock
devil eggs
fruit tray
veggie tray
cake

Prime Rib roast... so easy, so delicious!
Baked potatoes, a jus, asparagus spears (6-8 min in the broiler), rolls.
That's it... usually ice cream and Christmas cookies for dessert.
I love that it's simple and doesn't take hours in the kitchen.

Check out this info from Alton Brown for the PERFECT prime rib, the aging is easy and makes it so flavorful:

Dry Aged Standing Rib Roast

Beef Tenderloin
Yorkshire Pudding
Green Beans
Green Salad

Assortment of xmas cookies and icecream for dessert.
