Christmas bunting across Main Street

I was a visual merchandiser for 17 years, doing the windows and in store displays at Marshall Fields and Carson Pirie Scott in Chicago, so I have a ton of experience in Christmas decor, as well as I decorate 3 trees in my home every year.

The garland (bunting, btw, is always fabric, so that is the incorrect term, but who cares? Just saying?) that was strung across Main Street did block the castle. I am not a fan of colored lights, either...but it looks nice in pictures. These new wreaths do light up (I saw pics online where you can see lights on the greenery, plus the candles obviously light up) and also offer a very Victorian/Old-Timey feel to Main Street, even more than the garland swags did. Plus, you can clearly see they are not done. I bet these pics will look even better after tonight's crew does another layer of decor.

The numbered trucks are being prepped for the resorts...heard from a reliable source that the order for the lobbies are starting on Tuesday 11/11, with GF first and WL last on 11/18 for the deluxe resorts. It is all going to be amazing!

The only thing I am dreading about my 11/16-11/22 trip, other than the bus situation, is the ramming of "Frozen" down our throats. HATE that Elsa lights the castle this year! HATE that the MVMCP SoTMK card is Elsa! That is the WORST modern Disney movie made, since Hercules!

If you look at pics, you can see they re-used last year's wreaths and white bells from the garland, so these for-sure light up. I would not be surprised if they drape a garland swag around the white arm that holds the wreaths.

Ummm, you forgetting Home on the Range and Chicken Little? ...because even the most mouth foamy Frozen hater agrees those two are the absolute worst Disney films of all time.

But yes, I like the lights, personally I always preferred white lights myself, but I don't have a problem with multi colored ones...with the white Castle lights in the center, I think the colors to the side will frame it nicely...and yes, it isn't bunting, it is garland...but what can we do about it now, can open, worms everywhere.

Maybe like someone said their not completely done yet maybe they'll elevate the garland so the floats may pass

11290 posted earlier that they will be fully completed overnight (tonight) in time for Wednesday's guests. Dress rehearsal for MVMCP is tomorrow night after the park closes.

So do I. It's a cleaner look and allows an unobstructed view of the castle. When the castle is lit, it will look beautiful I am sure.

First people were complaining about wanting a new parade because the old ones were, well, old. Now they complain about not having the bunting. Sometimes I feel like no matter what Disney does, people will complain. They can't win. You can't make all the people happy all the time. Personally, the new parade and floats are well worth the loss of some bunting that wasn't, in my own opinion, all that "special". It was bunting.

I agree- some will find anything to complain about. I prefer a new, updated parade to keeping Christmas decorations that will be up and then gone in a few weeks.

I ADORE Chicken Little. Frozen isn't fit to shine Chicken Little's shoes. HotR I never saw so can't comment.

Actually Chicken Little was decent. Now Frozen was better than HotR (which wasn't as bad as Oliver and Company or the Great Mouse Detective! ;) ) but I still don't think Frozen deserves any of the hype its getting.

If you look closer, you can tell that the wreaths and bells are substantially different from last year. This year the wreaths are bigger and skinnier. The only thing that they might have re used is the candle.

More decorations are up on Main Street. Unfortunately nothing more was added to the new wreath holders. They added the Mickey wreaths on the light posts

Meh, not the biggest fan of it. But that's probably because the bunting across Main Street were my favorite decorations inside the parks. The wreathes aren't that bad, but the white branches/arms that they are on are hideous, IMO.

I agree.

And I know it's completely juvenile and insignificant, but I am a bit disappointed. I grew up in Central FL and have much nostalgia for Christmas at Disney. For me the garland gave you the cozy feeling that you were enveloped in the Christmas spirit. I never thought about the castle view, because it was all about the atmosphere right there on Main St.

This is the first time I have the opportunity to take my kids to experience Disney at Christmas. We are only attending MVMCP, so they won't see any of the other parks' decorations. I knew the tree wouldn't be up yet, and honestly my heart sank a bit to see that the Main St. garland would also be missing.

For those annoyed with the "complainers"-- no one has said it is a big deal, no one has said that it will ruin their trip, and no one has said they want the garland back at the expense of the parade. We all understand why it was changed and that it will be fine. We will probably even be over it after we move on from this thread. People are just expressing their feelings in a forum where they feel they might be understood and validated. We are (most likely) not going to have a discussion about the loss of a beloved Christmas decoration at Magic Kingdom with our coworkers, so we do it here. I am sure I will be thrilled with the decorations/atmosphere when I get there, but right now I am having a fleeting moment of disappointment and it's nice to know there are a few other people who can understand my feelings (as ridiculous as they may seem).

I'm with you, just ignore the complainers:) It very much saddens our family too. It truly does change the feel. However it will be interesting to see how the uninhibited view of the castle lights affects the perception. I think it will actually be ok if not better with the castle lighting and front projected castle shows. The daytime shots don't do it any justice. As long as they don't take the snow or music away then we'll probably adapt pretty quickly. It really will make it better for everybody from the Casey's to the Depot which should make it better for everybody in general.

Do the wreaths light up? I haven't seen anyone confirm if they do or don't?

I had been looking for a photo of Main Street at night and I found one. Apparently it was taken at 3:45 a.m. last night. I wish it was of all of main street, but you can also see how they are lighting Elsa's Castle. You can also see the lights on the wreaths and candles.

Thanks for posting! I LOVE 'empty park night shots'! :goodvibes

Maybe it's because I'm used to having the tree on Main Street during Christmas week, but it looks so dark! I agree that the garland got in the way of the castle, but it looked so cool against the white lights of the Main Street buildings.

I hope they find a way to brighten it up a bit. Another family is joining us this year and we've been building it up!

I stole the photo from my Twitter feed. It's actually from Tom Johnson at Fox 35.

Hey Plutothedog, keep in mind that photo I posted was taken early a.m. while the park was closed. They may not have had all the lights on at the time.
