I'll bet Joe Biden would support Chris's remark.

Is the word 'outsource' racist because the US outsources so much business to India. Is that racist? I don't get it. If you think that is racist, then you have to ask all those posters that refer to Obama's middle name. Since it is used to associate him with America's once Enemy #1 Saddam Hussein. So, if Matthews is racist - how many are racist post on these boards - more commonly in the conservative thread? I'm really interested in hearing an answer for this one. I'd like to know how the two are different. Obama's middle name is Hussein and Jindal's family is from India.
Here is the video of the 'outsource' comment.

Actually the context Matthews used the word was not racist. In the right context it could be used as a way to show bigotry toward Indian people.
I see using the stereotypical things of one ethnic group or race to describe them in a negative way as racist or bigoted. I do not see how using part of Obama's own name to compare him to another individual in the same way, no matter the intent. I do however see it as childish![]()

I don't have a problem with what you are saying, I'll even bite the bullet and say I agree. Especially if Matthews was talking about jobs - yes I'd say he was being racist. That’s the only negative connotation ‘outsourcing’ has – in regards to jobs. But this thread has me thinking. When Obama's middle name is being used - why are Cons using it? To associate him with terrorist/Muslim, etc. Isn't that racist - to assume that all people name Hussein (or with a Muslim name) is terrorist? Prejudice at the very least. Ummmmmmm![]()

Not so much. The Indians have built up their tech centers and Bangalore is as much a tech powerhouse as Massachusetts these days; they're not just people who speak good English that you can pay cheaply, anymore. And, more to the point, the dollar is not nearly as strong as it was 8 years ago, so in some cases, outsourcing makes a lot more sense when it's done within the US, sourcing from a high cost of living region to a low cost of living region or in other ways. It's an ethnic group like Irish Americans, but not a race. The comment was in bad taste but its not racist.
Yeah, it was inappropriate. But I'm having a really hard time summoning any outrage given the absolute BS that President Obama has endured from the right-wing media wingnuts. I'm not saying that excuses it, but when "your guy" has been the target of a lot of completely inappropriate outright lies and innuendos, you don't have an easy time feeling bad when it happens to someone on the other team.
I guess you were out of town the last 8 years. You gotta lot of catching up to do.

Honestly....I think most of the people on the DIS that use his middle name do it because its drives the Dems here nuts. Pot stirring. The same posters that do it, chime in with disapproval on threads that demonstrate real racism (for instance the watermelon thread this morning.)
Matthews isn't a true racisit, but he let his bizarre hatred for conservatives get the best of him and he said something ugly and bigoted. As I said before he is a smart man and chooses his words carefully. He knew the implication, an if he didn't he doesn't belong on a national news program.
I think it was a tasteless, classless, stupid thing to say, and Chris Matthews should be ashamed of himself.
Remarks such as that do real damage to the credibility of the speaker.
But there is a difference. Most of the time people like Matthews get a pass with little backlash. Limbaugh on the other hand...
Apparently not this time.
I don't watch Chris Matthews or listen to Rush. I get all my juicy tidbits from the DIS or Jon Stewart/Stephen Colbert. From what I've seen, I don't think either party has a monopoly on stupid, racist, sexist or inappropriate talking heads.
