Choosing AK day

Hi, I’m looking for input between these two days to go to AK: Wed Nov 28 or Thurs Nov 29.

We’re staying onsite & Wed has EMH 8-9am, Thurs is regular 9am opening (IF the schedule is the same as last year).

If we went Wed could we do FOP & Na’vi in the first hour? My original plan was to go on Thurs and RD Na’vi & FP FOP for some point that day.

Which would you do?

I would probably do Thursday because we dont RD and so we wouldn't take advantage of morning EMH. Because of that, we try to avoid parks that have EMH because those tend to be the busier ones that crowds flock to. I would think that would be extra true in the case of AK because so many people try to RD FOP, so they will tend to try to do what you're thinking of doing. I would also say Thursday because it will be further into your trip and that will give you a better chance of getting a FOP FP and hopefully getting it closer to where you want it during your day.

If you are confident you can get there for EMH, I would do Wed. We did that when we were there in Oct and were able to do FoP and be off that attraction by 8:20. After that, both the safari & Everest were walk ons. We had a FP for NRJ (we weren't able to get one that day for FoP) for later that morning. We loved FoP so much we rope dropped again a few days later and also had a FP for it.

We didn't do NRJ during our EMH but we certainly could've. When we got off FoP the queue was less than 20 minutes. It did get long quickly, though. I think by 10:00 it was 90 minutes and got worse from there.

We stayed at Contemporary and were at the bus by 6:15. We had no bus service going to AK until 7:15 (!) and that was only after I complained. We got to AK around 7:30. When we got through security the gates were already open; we followed the crowd to Pandora and were through the queue in about 35 minutes. I think the "official" recommendation is to plan to get to any RD an hour prior; that was our goal, but transportation was not cooperative.

Can i ask where you found park hours for November already? I just looked on the site and they aren't released yet. I am also going in November and would be interested in the week of the 11th.

@jliucci Sorry I should have said that I’m just going off of what they did last year.

I'd suggest Thursday and getting there 30-45 minutes before opening time. If you want to do the EMH on Wednesday, I'd still suggest getting there 30 minutes early at least. That one might give you a slightly better chance to do those quickly, but the park in general will be more crowded that day. Whether you can get a FOP FP does help, as Navi will be a little easier to do early in the day.

AK EMH is well worth your time if you have FoP FP for later. The rest of the park is practically empty.
