my son is autistic also, and given the choice I'd choose a monorail hotel - getting him back to your hotel quickly may be helpful

Hi again, OP! I'm the one who originally dismissed the Poly, but after reading your second post, I'm thinking in a different way. I have been to the Poly several times and have never found it to be loud and crowded. As a matter of fact, I think it's much more peaceful than the bustling BC, at least in my personal experiences. The GCH does get a little crazy at dinnertime, because the 2 restaurants are very close to eachother and they are very popular, hence lots of folks milling around waiting for tables. You can easily navigate around this by scheduling your TS meals, if you choose to have any, at "off" times, like as soon as the restaurant opens.

The GF health club is surprisingly close to the Poly. Your DH could use his pleasant walk along the beach to warm up and cool down. If he really doesn't want to walk, he take take the 3 minute monorail to get there and the 5 minute boat ride to get back (honestly, I just totally made up those times, but they're not too far fetched, I promise). Some of the disney resorts are so big that there are really rooms in the same resort that are further from eachother than the Hawaii building at the Poly is from GF.

Finally, at the Poly, you would have much more convenient, quick and easy food options, like CL lounge, Captain Cooks and room service.

I agree with SeaSpray about the Volcano pool slide. It goes thru the inside of the volcano and is sometimes completely dark when the red light inside isn't working. I mean black-out dark, no hint of light from either end of the tunnel. The quiet pool at the Poly is lovely and usually completely empty and steps away from Hawaii.

I'm still not sure! Good thing I have so long until this trip. Do you think Disney will let me book both hotels for the same week? Maybe if I put one under my name and the other under DH's and cancel the one we don't choose (hmmmm....) :rolleyes1

Okay, I just realized the following:

-Poly has "swings" and hammocks on the beach...this is VERY tempting. Swings are our friend (my son is a sensory seeker and he needs some sort of back and forth or up/down movement almost daily, even if it's very gentle swinging). Are there swings on the beach at BC?

I would do the 2 BR villa at BC if you can get the dedicated 2 bedroom. They are really nice and spacious and the pool at BC is the best in Disney. Which they happen to require a wristband for so they cuts down on overcrowding from people who pool hop. You could also book 2 rooms at BC. This will be a great location for Epcot and MGM. My next choice for you would be Poly since you will have the monorail, though you won't be spending much time at MK.

Maybe I am remembering this wrong, you know how the memory goes when as you get older:rolleyes1 But I thought the only people guaranteed a dedicated 2 bedroom at the Beach Club were DVC members. We rented points in 2006 and stayed in a dedicated 2 bedroom unit, and that is what we were told. That members could book them but no one else. Is that not right, or has it changed? If the unit the OP is looking for has to be a dedicated 2 bedroom, that might be a problem.

Yes, that might be a problem. I actually read that if you book as a cash reservation through Disney, you get priority in choosing "dedicated" vs. "lock off", since DVC members can only book at 11 months out, while "everyone else" can book 499 days out. Disney supposedly allocates so many of each type room for NON-DVC members, and provided one books early, there are units of all types available.

I could be 100% wrong, though.

I've never stayed at any of these, but everytime I've ever stayed on the club/concierge level of a hotel, I've felt every extra penny was well paid. IMO, you can't go wrong at the Poly from everything I've seen, and you certainly can't go wrong on the concierge level.
