I am starting the "17 Day Diet" which is really a low carb, lower fat diet. It recommends plain yogurt once a day. I really hate plain yogurt. Is there a Chobani flavored yogurt, I could stand vanilla that would be okay? Also, if it has to be plain, is there a way to "improve" it.

I have no idea what the 17 day diet is, but I eat chobani all the time. The only ones I would consider low carb are the plain, and vanilla. All other flavors are loaded with sugar. Sometimes I add a few drops of honey to the plain chobani, to add a little flavor. Just be careful, since you're also adding carbs.

Also, try Fage brand greek yogurt, their plain isn't as sour tasting as chobani.

Depending on how you feel about these things, you could add Splenda or stevia or agave nectar to sweeten it. I will often do that with a splash of vanilla extract. My kids like it with honey, but as far as the glycemic index is concerned, your body processes it just like sugar. However, I believe that agave has a lower GI impact than honey/sugar.

Crushed strawberries and a bit of vanilla is also a good choice.............P

I really really love Greek Gods honey. I've now tried their non-fat plain and Chobani non-fat plain. I add local honey to both.

I love that Chobani has over twice as much protein and I wonder how two yogurts can have such different counts. :confused3 I still get my Greek Gods honey flavored too though. It's just the non-fat plain ones seem to have an aftertaste and I didn't see aspartame on the label but that is what it reminds me of.

I will try agave syrup on the non-fat plain next. I just opt for local honey a few days a week for any allergy prevention help it can lend.

I posted this on your CB thread but I have read that adding a little bit of sugar free jello (the powder, not already made) really helps. You only need a very little bit since it is concentrated. I just bought some today to try.

I mixed the Chobani Plain with Truvia (on sale) and vanilla. Added the required fresh berries, tea with lemon and that is breakfast. Actually it was quite good.
The 17 Day Diet is a low glycemic index diet, low fats and the induction period is 17 days. After 17 days you alternate between the second faze and the first. I will wait until I get there to read about it. You also have to exercise 20 min. twice a day. The goal is to "trick" your metabolism. I have always done well on Atkins but I thought this would break up the boredom and after all, we can put up with anything for 17 days. LOL There is also 4 fazes to this diet.

I mix plain or vanilla Chobani (the only yogurt, greek or otherwise, I like) with a scoop/spoonful of canned pumpkin and cinnamon or pumpkin pie spice :goodvibes. I sometimes add a scoop of apple butter to plain or vanilla Chobani, but that isn't as carb-friendly (I'm a calorie counter more than a carb counter).

Be sure to check Chobani's website regularly as they offer printable coupons. :thumbsup2

I eat plain greek yogurt with a Tbsp of Splenda. It's sweet enough, with a bit of a kick. Sometimes, I add berries.

We eat tons of greek yogurt, either Chobani or Fage. And since we don't use any artificial sweeteners, including Splenda, we found that Truvia is great to sweeten it. Every morning, I have a cup of plain greek yogurt with 3 packets of Truvia and 1 cup of frozen raspberries. I throw all that into a bowl and by the time I get to work, the berries have softened up a little bit but are still a nice crunch to the soft yogurt. 23g of protein and lots of fiber from the berries without any added sugar (we buy tons of organic raspberries in the summer, wash them, then flash freeze and vacuum seal them for use throughout the year).

I finally tried the jello powder in the yogurt. I added some Sugar Free Strawberry Jello powder to Fage 0%. At first I added just a tiny bit as I had read about, mixed and tasted and :crazy2: :rotfl2: But I added a little more and a little more and it turned out not so bad-- a beautiful pink color! So maybe the part about "just a tiny big" needs to be revised!

I am trying to get over the texture. I looks like sour cream so it just seems weird. But I think it will be a good snack. It won't ever be something that I am craving or have just because I feel like it, but to help meet my weight loss goals I think I can handle it. I have some raspberry jello I will try next week.

Wanna hear something gross that I've made? I take vanilla Chobani, a little cottage cheese and a small amount of raspberry flavored jello powder and mix it together. It's soooo good (to me, at least). I showed it to my family and my neighbor. They all just gagged and thought it was disgusting looking, but it's so tasty.

Exactly...so why not treat it like sour cream? I get a 16 oz container of the plain, fat free Greek yogurt and mix in a packet of Hidden Valley Ranch Dip seasoning. There you go.... a completely guilt-free, downright good for you vegetable dip.

Wow! Great idea! I've never thought about doing this. I've used plain greek yogurt in place of sour cream (like on chilis or baked potatoes), but I've never thought about doing this. Thanks!

Great idea.:thumbsup2 I was thinking about using it like I do sour cream in other things. I have ready about subbing yogurt it never made sense until I saw the consistency of this stuff.

Excellent point!

I absolutely cannot eat Greek yogurt as "yogurt" ... aka ... Yoplait, Dannon, Activia (all of which I like). I've tried choking down Chobani, Faje, Dannon Oikos and Stoneyfield Farm Oikos. I've tried different flavors. I've tried adding fruit and/or cinnamon. Even tried adding SF Jello powder. Just Do.Not.Like.It.

I was irritated because this stuff is not cheap!

Wednesday I gave up on thinking of it as yogurt and began using it as sour cream. Mixed 1/2 a container of plain Faje Total 0% with an equal amount of salsa and used it as a dressing for a southwestern chicken salad. DELICIOUS!

So, I'll still be buying and using Greek yogurt, but only as a healthy, high protein, low sugar, low fat base for dips and salad dressings

Which is the exact opposite of what dips and salad dressings usually are, if you think about it. It's cool to turn something that is usally bad for you into something that is good for you. :thumbsup2

PS, love the southwestern chicken salad idea!!

I'm just chiming in with my love of Chobani here. First off, they are a local company to me - only about 1/2 hour away from my home here in NY. Gotta love that. Second, I've learned over the past year to do a lot of label reading and I love that Chobani does not add any fillers, etc. to their product. No gelatin or other stuff to make it thick. Third, I'm a business reporter and the first story I did at my current job was meeting with the founder of Chobani at the factory he had just bought and listening to him tell me how he was going to make great yogurt. I absolutely love that they have become such a success story - and that it's so yummy! :)

Have you used it to make Ranch dressing out of, using the powder and subing the yogurt for the mayonnaise? Wondering how that would work out. Probably would need more milk added.

That I can't answer - I'm not a ranch dressing fan.

Exactly! I'm a recently diagnosed diabetic and am trying really hard to eat better. At least I've found a decent sub for full fat sour cream now (the no-fat sc is sooo watery and tasteless)
