So my friends and i where talking about this. Do you think chivarly is dead? Girls do you like guys who are nice and polite? just curious...

What does chivalry mean?

Sorry, I'm a little out of it right now.

Guys who hold the door for women, guys who pull out the chairs, buy flowers, pay for the meals etc.

It really depends on the girl. Some girls like to be liberated and they can do everything. Some girls appreciate, or want, the guy to be polite and stuff. My GF is fine either way. She's not very high maitenence. Of course she appreciates chivalry, but doesn't need it all the time, though I am usually very polite to her, and especially around her parents (and my parents!)

Oh thanks.

I'm not high maintenance at all, but I love seeing my boyfriend doing polite and sweet things like that. It's just respectful towards me. When I see a 'gentleman' the first thing I think of, is that he was definitely raised right.

My boyfriend was the first guy ever to knock on my door when he picked me up, and then walk me back to my door at the end of the night. All the other guy's I've went out with never did that.

We've been dating for 8 months and he still opens doors for me, pulls out my chair, etc.

I don't care for it. I can open my own door!!

ETA: In certain situations it is appropriate. But DBF and I are at the point where we split the cost when we go out 50/50. in the beginning though he made for mostly everything.

Chivalry is most definitely not dead, though it is dying out. I see a lot of guys out there (boys mostly) who treat their girlfriends like crap and aren't very respectful to them.

My BF always offers to pay, thought I usually don't let him, and he usually opens doors for me. He's polite to my parents, and to me most of the time (only when we are alone and joking around is when he isn't polite with me..haha)

I would love for my man to be chivalrous. But, chivalry is definitely dying in our society, and it makes me sad. :sad2:

I still open doors for girls when I go somewhere, always. Chivalry isn't quite dead yet. My momma taught me right. :teeth:

Unfortunately, I also believe chivalry is dying out. Guys are such pigs now-a-days.

I'm going to go southern on ya'll, but it seems, that 'real' southern gentlemen are very chivalrous. They say 'yes ma'am' and 'yes sir'. Although I'm not a huge fan of the accent, the way they act gives me a good feeling.

OH, and that's why I LOVE military guys! They're all about being polite. :)

Dido, on the military guys. I love them, I can spot them out from miles away((:

matt and i NEVER split the cost. one of us always buys the other's meal. we take turns on who pays (usually whomever has more money on them will buy)
but we've never split the cost.

I guess I should of worded it differently. I meant that we take turns paying. But no we don't usually split the check, unlike what I wrote...lol.

oh okay. that makes more sense. thats what matt and i do too. lol

Chivalry is, for the most part, DEAD. :( I love chivalry, I think it so kind. It pretty much only exists: on a first date or when a man is cheating.
This is one of the things I hate about today's society: barely anyone knows how to be kind anymore.

I  a man in uniform. Be it a military or sport uniform. OMG it makes my heart skip a beat.

the worst relationships i've ever had have been with men in the military. (mine were) so full of themselves and act like they're doing YOU a favor by being with you. men in uniform need not apply here.

i don't think chivalry is dead, completely. i think it all depends on the man.

I think it is in certain parts of the country. In the south, the guys are very chivalrous, they open the door, they ask the women out, they compliment them and treat them like a prize.

In other parts of the country men make the women do everything. Where I am from none of the guys ask the girls out, nor do they open the door for you.

I think part of it is our fault because women wanted to be treated equal and therefor we ruined chivalry.

i don't understand how it is dead at all! i think it is still around in certain places..

It's still around. At school there's guys that hold doors for me. Most of them don't, but I'm not even kidding, it makes my day when a guy does.

I don't think it's dead.....it's just....rare.

I think that women hold the door open for me more often than men, and I often hold the door open for men, it's just a common courtesy now, not so much a chivalric thing.

I find chivalry to be something more like....defending your honour type of thing. Like if a guy tries to hit on me, or if someone says something bad about me and by bf defends me, THAT to me is chivalric. Moreso than having him open a car door for me--which I could care less about.

and on the topic of paying for meals, derek & i do the same as you two, one pays and we sort of alternate (sort of, its not entirely even, but it balances out in the end i'm sure)
