Chit Chat Thread - November ADRs...

I'm sure Scout is on the chopping block next. If it wasn't for Scout, I wouldn't have gotten half of the ADR's I was looking for, since we booked inside of the 180 day window. I'm disappointed, but understanding of why Disney is going after these services.

I honestly think the only reason Scout is still up right now is because the person running it is actually on vacation at Disneyland right now. Talk about ironic :)

Yeah, I'm a bit surprised, given the other services that actually book ADR's on your behalf. I figured those would be done away with, but not the notification services. Unfortunately, without Scout and Buddy, it's going to be even harder to get ressies without being tied to your computer :(

I agree! Scout and Buddy in my opinion aren't/weren't doing anything wrong. I understand why Disney is shutting them down and I know a lot of people had issues with them and to each their own but personally I prefer to not have to spend all my time on Disney's dining page. The scalping site that is the reason for all the issues is still up as well which is very aggravating. I just wish if Disney is going to shut these sites down then they need to have a plan to stop the hoarding and possibly have a wait list or a search site of their own. I wouldn't have used Scout if I had gotten everything I wanted on my ADR day but I followed the rules and got up at 4:30 AM CST so I was ready to go at 5 and didn't get everything so I paid a site to search for me so I could spend that time I would be searching with my daughter.

I feel you on the spending time with your daughter - I'm a stay at home mom and when I was searching for BOG breakfast/Minnie's/etc, I was so attached to my phone and computer. I was so relieved when I was done searching and letting Scout look for tweaks to my ressies was a sanity saver! And, since we're not on the dining plan, we don't have that many ressies to begin with!

Stay at home mom here too and was exactly the same before I let Scout take over searching!

I'm a mom too but work outside the home, so at work in between things and when I was home afterwards I was constantly checking. I was Relieved and grateful when I heard about scout. I'm with all the PP's saying it saved family time and my sanity . I got several ADR's from scout Pre Park ADR for CRT, sci Fi dinner, Fantasmic Mama Melrose, spirit of Aloha, and Mickeys BAckyard BBQ. Without scout I wouldn't have many ADR's we are going during free dining so ADR's are almost non existent.

Even after these sites are shut down, you still won't be able to get everything you want all the time.

I'm right there with all of you!! I feel so guilty taking time away from my kids bc I'm constantly searching for adrs.

Seriously. Its a meal. Dining. Eating. Shoving food in our mouths. If people are to the point of choosing to spend less time with their children so they can sit at their computer and make a dining reservation, I'm beginning to wonder if "Disney" is a sickness or something. Wow.

I am amazed at how much priority people are putting on eating at a certain restaurant. You are in Disney World, how much greater could that be? Be happy! If you don't get an ADR use that as a tool to teach your children that we don't always get everything we want out of life. Your kids aren't going to zone in and remember ONLY that they didn't get to eat somewhere. They're going to remember....Disney World.

I am anxiously awaiting all these sites to be closed so I can see what people start saying the culprit is next. There will be little, if any, noticeable difference in obtaining ADRs once they are gone. People can't justify in their heads that Disney is having higher attendance and free dining is a HUGE draw (along with hoarding by regular people) so they need something else to blame.

Not trying to be mean here but seriously, if you are feeling guilty about taking time away from your kids to make an ADR, you really should take a breather and calm down some.

For you. It's shoving food in your mouth for you. It's not important to you. I hear what you're saying, but I seriously am so tired of people saying it's just a meal without adding the qualifier that in your opinion, it doesn't matter. Good for you. Great. You don't care. Super. That's so deeply helpful!

But to others, it does. For people who have kids with special needs, it matters. For people whose kids have food allergies, it matters. For people who have birthday or other plans that the dream is to go to a certain place, it matters. For people whose kids beg all year for a certain reservation, or certain characters, it matters. If it wasn't important to some and more than "just a meal" to some then no one would be struggling or putting the time in or paying someone to search for them when their 180+10 didn't work for them at all.

It's not something they need to take a breather and calm down from. It's easy to demean someone because it's not important to you but at least TRY to understand that to someone else, it is important. And you don't need to know why or attack what matters to them. Maybe you got lucky on your booking day, didn't go during free dining, were club level, or were lucky enough to take such a long trip that you were able to book what you wanted, or really you just shove food in your face, but if it's not important to you, there's plenty for you to scroll on without taking the time to make people who already feel bad now feel worse.

I think it's a lot more than a meal. To that little girl who loves Belle and then gets to eat in the Beast's castle! Or see a princess at CRT. Or the little boy who love Stitch and then gets to meet him at breakfast. If you look at most of the popular restaurants it's a lot more than food. And for families that may only get 1 trip every 4-5 years, or maybe even once, then it's a huge part of the experience.

I don't think people on here are saying they are neglecting their kids to find ADRs but rather without these sites they spend a lot of time searching themselves and that does take away from something - time with spouse, kids, cleaning house, running errands, watching tv...whatever it is, and that is all part of trying to plan the perfect vacation for themselves and their family, including where they choose to eat. And hey, when you're paying $100 minimum a cheap meal you have a right to be picky about where you want to shove food in your face LOL!

I do agree getting rid of sites like Scout and Buddy won't solve the problem...Disney has a lot of issues with their ADR system and the ability for people to double book. They need to look into solutions for those problems as well.

People are self admittedly feeling guilty for taking time away from their children to make ADRs.

Yes, it is.

I understand its important but when eating at a certain restaurant becomes more important than spending time with your kids (to the point you feel guilty about it) there is a problem and at that point, no, the restaurant is not important.

In my opinion, I don't think it is. Sitting down with your kid's favorite character and eating at our regular meal time (not at 9pm) is important. These meals are an experience and not just shoving food down our mouths. My DS still looks at pics from other character meals from years ago. He was 1-2 yrs old back then so he doesn't remember and loves the pics. Heck, I still look back at those pics and smile. So it's not just about getting calories in our body. It has more of a lasting effect than that.

If you don't get an ADR use that as a tool to teach your children that we don't always get everything we want out of life.

How about teaching them persistence and trying your best? Aren't those good things to teach the kids too?

I agree with you there. We have AP at DL and I never have problems with booking ADRs there a week or even a few days before we go. DL doesn't offer free dining and doesn't have the FP+ (which I think is one culprit in the ADR hoarding problem) so I think that makes a huge difference.

Fwiw, I work and have no access to the Internet while doing my job. I can get on my phone during a bathroom break and the computer during lunch time but sometimes I like to eat out with my co-workers and chat, get away from work. I don't get on the Internet while spending time with my kid either. So scout and buddy looked for me during the times when I couldn't work on getting our ADRs. And since I booked our vacation late (which I thought was early; 5 months prior), the restaurants that I was interested in were booked up.

Agree. I wish that Disney would have fixed the ADR problem first. Unfortunately, this just reminds me that Disney's biggest motivator is not magic, it's the almighty dollar! Sometimes it's nice to forget that and focus on the magic instead.
