I have a question. You know those 'Children at Play' signs, bright yellow or orange? Are those supposed to go in the driveway, on the sidewalk or in the street? I'm asking, because my neighbor down the road has one, and has it blocking an entire lane of traffic. Granted, it is a subdivision, not too much traffic, but it blocks the ONLY way to get to our street. Is this normal? I've never really seen them used so I was just wondering.

The only "Children At Play" signs I've ever seen are the ones that are placed in the ground at the entrance to or in the subdivision along the sidewalk. Is this one of his own signs that he purchased somewhere? Is it a "sandwich" type sign that sets IN the street? If so, that sounds pretty dumb to me!

Personally if it was blocking traffic, I'd nicely ask them to move it somewhere where it is easier for autos and pedestrians to get around it.

Why are "Children At Play" signs even necessary? The children should know not to play in the street to begin with. And if the they are in the street, they should know to get out of it when they see a car. If they are too young to know better, their parents shouldn't allow them out there without supervision. Streets are for cars, not for kids. I just find it stupid that cars should slow down and cater to kids who shouldn't be in the street in the first place.

The only time I have seen those signs is near playgrounds, and they are on a post in the ground, at the curb.

My favorite sign though is, STOP AHEAD.

When we are driving around and I see one, I always grab dh's or one of my kids' heads, lololol.

If the sign was placed in the road actually blocking traffic, I think I would have to run over it. ;)

My DH's favorite sign is "SLOW CHILDREN PLAYING." This could be read in so many different ways.

those signs are meant to be place at the end of your driveway while your kids are outside playing. that way, anyone pulling into the driveway will know to watch for small children that may run into their path. they are NOT meant to be put in the road! that is what the the city signs that say children at play are for!

ARe you talking about the lime green ones that are shaped like a person with a yellow flag on them?

My daughters prechool use d to use those during pick up

I would say something to her, or steal it in the middle of the night ;) jk. Seriously, though, I'm sure it's against the law to do that if it is blocking traffic. The only signs I've seen are the kind that are planted in the ground, like stop signs. I always wondered the purpose too. My whole developtment is full of children, you can't have a sign every 5 houses or anything.

The "slow children playing" sign always cracked me up and confused me as well.
