Child with peanut allergy

Hello, everyone. This is my first time posting. My family and I will be taking our first family trip to WDW in 2 weeks. DS6 has a peanut allergy. We are on the DDP. I'm a little worried about feeding him! Can someone else with this problem let me know how things worked out for you. We are all so excited about going and I don't want anything to ruin the magic. Thanks for your responses.

i'd have it noted on the ADRs and call the TS restaurants directly 2 days out or so. peanut allergies is common enough that it shouldn't be an issue (some diets might require more like a week's notice).

of course a lot would depend on how severe it is as well.

My DS 5 has a peanut and tree nut allergy. We have been to Disney many times.

First contact Brenda Bennett now and let her know when you will be there she will send you a list of safe foods in the parks.

Second any ADR's you have call back and have them note the peanut allergy, if they don't give you the phone numbers to the resturants ask for them. You can call before you arrive and let them know you will be there on a certain day and they will help you with the menu.
I have never called in advance, I just had it noted and when we got to the resturant we reminded the waitress and then the Chef came out and helped us chose the right food.
But basically I have found that any child menu food has always been safe, except of course the PB sandwitch. Even though it is safe the chef will make it personally and deliver it to you and will be there right through dessert.
At buffets the chef will walk you though the buffet and let you know about all the food.

My son is big on chicken nuggets and hot dogs and fries so most of the time we had it easy.
The Itzakoodize and Mickey ice cream bars are safe foods.
They now sell Divves packaged cookies and popcorn that are made in a Peanut Free Place.

The email you get from Brenda will have all this information.
We have been told any bread/roll that is brought to the table is not safe because they do not make it.
Wolf Gang Pucks on the West Side at Downtown Disney use Peanut oil in just about everything they make, so we stay away from there.

My son has never been deprived with any food in Disney, there is alot he can have there they will go out of their way for you. My son is just not a big eater.
If you want him to have cake of any kid for dessert, then I would call ahead of time and they will make something safe for him. We had a birthday cake for my son for is Bday one year.

Just tell everyone everywhere you get food thay will help you.

As an adult with a fairly serious shellfish allergy, I was a bit concerned during our October 2006 WDW visit, since we also used the DDP.

The table service chefs were terrific. I didn't notify the restaurants in advance, as I know what to avoid, but the chefs came out help me determine if there was hidden shellfish in salads, etc. No joke--I've landed in the emergency room a couple of times because there was no mention of shellfish in a salad and I couldn't see it in the "atmosphere" of the restaurant (not at WDW)!

The WDW chefs were very concerned about cross contamination (less of an issue with me, as long as I don't ingest a significant amount--.5 oz. or so), so your DS will be in good hands.

My DS has a peanut allergy and it really hasnt been an issue over many trips. Disney goes above and beyond the call of duty.

Sine it is only 1 allergy, it is relatively easy to deal with. And since we know there will be something that he can eat without peanuts we feel there is no need to call in advance (thats something you need to decide based on your level of comfort).

We just let our server know and either they are knowledgable enough to handle it or they will bring out the chef to talk to us. Usually we feel almost embarrased that the chef comes out because it is so simple. They also are very careful to avoid cross contamination.

The biggest thing we find is with items that are made offsite, uually breads and such. While they likely don't contain peanuts, since they are not prepared there,the chef will caution against DS eating them.

Been to WDW many times w mult allergies, inlc p'nut w 2 nephews. Note on your ADR's, they will give you #'s, speak w chef's, speak w servers. The chef at each rest. came out and spoke w us, at any buffett we were given a walk thru tour. We never had any problems w any of the allergies.
BUT DO NOT LEAVE HOME W/O YOUR TWO EPIPENS AND AN EXTRA PRESCRIPTION!

Our biggest issue is with the desserts since we as a family avoid all peanuts and tree nuts. You do have options at some places but others you are out of luck. This is one reason we have shyed away from the DDP as we didn't feel that skipping out on dessert at each given meal would give us the value of the plan. But your family comfort level may be different and just your child avoids.

However, as far as meals go Disney is top notch! It is honestly the only place outside of my own kitchen where I feel my son is being looked after with the same care and concern. And I actual sit back and enjoy my meal instead of being the Mama Hawk glaring at him nonstop looking for a reaction.
