Chicks and Roosters...part 2

Morning!

Tricia, our weather is similar. It's really cool in the mornings but by the time I go to lunch it will be really warm.

I spent the weekend working on a Spongebob quilt for my best friend. That's what she wants for Christmas. A Spongebob quilt. At least I don't have to think too hard about what to get her.

Good afternoon all

Michelle, I hope you're getting your nap in. :thumbsup2

We really started the fall season the past week. It was about 45 degrees this morning. Saturday felt cold because it was windy.

Susan, that's so nice that you're making a quilt. I'm jealous that you can make one.:)

We had some real fall weather here this weekend, and it was awesome after spending a week in hot Orlando. It got down to about freezing, or just above, the last couple of nights, and we had a small frost. It's definitely pumpkin patch, football weather here now. The highs, though, are still getting into the upper 60's or so, so it's just about ideal. Frankly, this is what I wish I could get whenever we go to Disney in the middle of winter, but it seems like it's usually windy and uncomfortably chilly at Disney in December and January, and often cloudy. We've just kind of resigned ourselves to the fact that WDW is just going to be hot whenever we go in early October now.

We've switched over our thermostats to heat now, although it only rarely needs to come on at this point. I'm looking forward to seeing our electric bill at the end of this month, especially since I also shut off our hot water heater for the week we were at Disney. With practices like shutting off the hot water heater whenever we're gone for more than 24 hours, replacing most of our light bulbs with CFL or LED bulbs, replacing old air units, we've cut a lot out of our electric bills (about 50%), but it's still higher than I want it to be. The next step, when and if I can ever afford it, is to replace our hot water heater with a tankless water heating system hooked up to our existing propane line.

Kendall has her Science Fair Project due today so I'll be bringing her to school instead of her trying to ride the bus with that big thing. She did "How Fast Ice Melts in Different Liquids". Can I just tell you how interesting it is to watch ice melting while timing it on three different occasions.:rotfl:

Grim we still have the air conditioner on but it doesn't kick on quite as often now. I'm looking forward to the days of turning it off completely and opening the windows. I hope those days are coming soon.

Good morning all

Oh those lovely science fairs. :rotfl:
God B;less the kids that enjoy it and do well!:thumbsup2
Science was my LEAST favorite subject. I was so happy to be able to drop it after 10th grade. :)

I'm wearing a sweater in the house. We got an oil delivery last week for $4.39 a gallon.

I saw a commercial last night for the funniest thing I've seen in a while. I can't remember exactly what they called it, but it was essentially a wearable blanket. It's a fleece (I assume) blanket that you wear and it covers you from your neck to your feet, without a single break in between. Forget pants or shirts. I was cracking up. The commercial showed people sitting on their couches or walking around, looking like multiple colored smurfs. Oh, and if you buy now, you get a second blob outfit for free. These people looked like overgrown babies.

It was touted as a way to reduce energy bills, since you wouldn't need much heat in the house if you're walking around in a blanket. Drafty houses wouldn't be much of an issue, I suppose, if you're walking around in a 98.6 degree blob outfit.

For anyone, though, who wonders "Why didn't anyone think of that before?", I'm sure it was probably thought of before the concept of pants and shirts came into being, but taking care of personal business would be awfully difficult with the blob outfit on they showed on tv. Also, imagine the static electricity wearing one of those would cause. Any power bill decrease in my house would probably be offset by my refusal to turn off lights or appliances in my Super-Charged Blob Outfit.

I have a somewhat "ugly" birthday coming up. I may have someone order me one of those blob outfits for my birthday. Similar to George wearing the sweatpants in the Seinfeld episode where he just "gave up", that blob outfit could be a similarly pessimistic clothing choice for an older decade.

Just think what a fashion statement you'd be making. :rotfl: I don't think we'd get much use out of them around here.

I got gas this morning for $2.79 a gallon. Last week I paid $3.13 so I was a happy camper today.

I can get it locally for about $2.77/gallon. That's better than the last year or so, although it is almost exactly what it was last year at this time. What irks me, though, is that I live in a rural, small town area where there's obviously less demand than more urban areas, but go to Lexington, KY 70 miles north of me and gas can be had in the sub-$2.50 range, like $2.44 or so. :confused3 That bothers me. There's no macroeconomic reason I should be paying 30 cents more per gallon than in other parts of even my own state, and it's not a huge state.

I know, I know: there are two words for it: price fixing.

Good morning!

So much to discuss today!

Tricia, I once did a science fair project where I had different types of dirt (sand, gravel, mud, clay, etc. . . ) and timed how fast water drained from them. Brilliant isn't it!

Grim, I've seen that blanket blob sold on QVC as a Slanket. I actually thought I might need one till I saw the guy try to walk around. It was about a foot longer than him.

Actually, more than Smurfs, those things may make people look more like the Whos in Whoville in the Grinch cartoon. It seems they wore something like this as their sleeping pajamas. :rotfl2:

Yes, it is quite Who like isn't it? I'll just stick with normal blankets.

Good morning chicks and our resident rooster. Glad to see the block is still gone for now Grimley.

Happy Hump Day! Maybe it's just that we have so much going on around here but the week seems to be flying by for me. :confused3

Good Morning. It's supposed to be 98 today! That's not good. I may be sleeping on the floor of the living room again.

Susan does your house not have an air conditioner? I know lots of area's across the US don't have them but living in the south it's just hard for me to comprehend that some people actually don't need them like we do.

Happy Thursday everyone. One day closer to the weekend.

Good morning!

Tricia, most people along the coast don't have air conditioners. The businesses do (we have one at work) but not the homes. 90% of the time, an open window is plenty cool but we have those odd days that make life uncomfortable. I do have one of those portable air conditioning units but I wasn't sure it was going to stand up to that heat. Fortunately it did and I slept fine.

Good morning all

I've been late to work the last few mornings. Darn stores for opening so early. :rotfl:

Hope everyone has a great weekend. :cool1:

I just loo0ked at the Smurfs blankets. I prefer just a big blanket myself. :rotfl:

Good morning!

I'm glad it's Friday. It's been a long week. I have to work the silent auction at a preschool carnival tonight. It should be interesting.

Tomorrow I plan to finish that quilt and get that out of my hair and put away. I also have to buy a new mop. My dad broke his and came over to borrow mine. When I went to "borrow" it back, I found that he had broken that one too. Lovely.

Good Morning.

Kelsie's off to take the ACT Test for the first time this morning. I think I'm more nervous than she is. :guilty:

Susan good luck quilting today. I hope you finish it so you'll still have plenty of time to enjoy the weekend.

Good morning! It's almost 9 and I'm still in my pajamas sitting on the computer. I haven't even made coffee yet! I'm heading to the shower once I get caught up with everything. Then breakfast (with coffee), then quilting.
