Chick fil a

I agree. I can't believe how expensive fast food is these days. Nearly $10 for a Big Mac or Quarter Pounder meal that used to be under $5. The formally $1 McDouble is now $2.50.
Wow, is it really? I despise McDonalds and have maybe eaten it as an adult twice. We were following someone and they pulled into McDonalds for lunch so I didn't have much of a choice. I was shocked at how cheap it was (a LONG time ago), but then realized when I was leaving hungry why it was cheap.

Wendy's and Arby's (and BK but I don't eat that very often) has been that cost for quite some time. Can't remember the last time you could eat a regular meal at Wendy's for under $9.

:goodvibes That would be nice; explain to me what I'm paying for at McDonald's then? No Chick-Fil-A here and fast food is getting ridiculously expensive. Thursday night I drove thru and got 3 combo meals and an extra 6-pack of nuggets. The price was $42 dollars. :faint:

Did the stand-alone location in Toronto stay open? It seemed like some were trying to drum it out of town initially. The first Canadian Chick-Fil-A was in the Calgary airport, on the departures level behind security. It seemed like such an odd place for it. I'm pretty sure it closed within a year and we only got to try it once. It was OK (chicken sandwiches aren't a big fav of mine) and the service was typical Canadian food-kiosk service - nothing notable.
I thought that was odd that the only location was in that airport.
i find fast food very expensive inCanada. Probably due to the higher taxes.

That’s a result of several things. One being the increasing minimum wage. Things like fast food are going to increase even more.

Yep. I don’t disagree with that need for a higher minimum wage but not sure in the end it really helps when the cost of everything goes up due to it. I’ve seen business flat out say due to the increase in minimum wage we have had to raise our prices.

I think it's really meh. The last time I tried one I realized how much of an MSG bomb those things are. And it was just a piece of lettuce, a breaded chicken patty, and a bun.

Now Popeye's chicken sandwich is awesome for about the same price. And there's one close to home for me.
And don't forget the great customer service at Popeye's.

One of the Chick fil A gives me free items every few months through their app. I'm always about free stuff.

Well, since Popeyes came up. The reaction should settle it....

I find the service at Popeye's spotty. In my area it greatly depends on which one you go to. I did once run into an employee who talked exactly like the lady in their commercials - called me "honey" and everything. I guess that's not too uncommon around here, but still. Chick-fil-A on the other hand always has stellar service - like always. I've seen them walking people to their cars with umbrellas when it was raining! So, I'll give the chicken sandwich to Popeye's, but the service to CFA (and still a pretty darn good sandwich too).

My goto Popeye's is not known for great customer service.

They provide one of the worst first impressions. Many times before the pandemic I would walk up to the door and find all the employees outside smoking. As I walked up they would lay their cigarettes on the sidewalk, walk in to take my order, give me my food, and then return to their still burning cigarettes.

Reminds me of the good old days when you could smoke in restaurants. I remember going to a Taco Bell where the cashier would lay their cigarette down on the cash register to take my order. They used the same spot each time so the register was slightly burned.

I usually don't go to chick-fil-a unless I'm with a group of people that want to go there. Years ago, their food was quite tasty, but the last couple of times it was oily, and just did not have a good flavor, and service was pretty abysmal. Teens that didn't seem to want to actually have a job. Nothing compared to the great fried chicken at 50s Prime Time. Fast food, in general, has been going down hill for the last few years,

They're franchises and the issues may be with the training by the franchise owner. I get that CFA has much tighter standards for employee training.

It's kind of strange at my local Popeye's. When it first opened it didn't seem all that unusual. But eventually it seemed that every single person working there was originally from India. Not Indian-Americans but everyone with an accent. The service hasn't been bad, but I'm getting the sense that the franchise owner is likely originally from India and is hiring almost exclusively through connections.

Yes, it's excellent! First time I went we dined-in and the food was so fresh & hot. I didn't think the sauce was anything special, but the rest of the stuff was wonderful. Fortunately, there's not a location nearby or I'd be in there all the time.;)
What do you consider nearby to you in terms of distance? There's a couple in the metro. I remember Aaron and I tried it and Aaron didn't really care for it I thought it was okay. But Chick-fil-A? We both love that. I remember Zaxby's (which we have like 3 locations of that) being alright.

If you asked me that question, it would depend on when you asked it and weather. When I was married, 30 miles would be local (and the closest to get food.) Now it would be 5-10 miles. If a beautiful summer day, it would be 300 miles by motorcycle, LOL.

As far as chicken sandwiches go, I prefer Popeye's spicy chicken sandwich, but there really aren't any Popeye's anywhere near us and the one that is has not had great customer service. Chik fil a's sandwich is pretty good too. I really like Cane's chicken strips as well. And Wendy's works in a pinch too (especially their spicy chicken).

It's probably 15 minutes or so, the CFA is about half that distance and there are half-dozen fast food places within 3-4 minutes of my house. It's not like it's a long haul, I'm just too lazy to travel much beyond my zip code. Plus it's not like I need to increase my intake of fried chicken!;)

:rotfl2:I totally get it...we don't either ;)

Yeah as much as I like. Closest one is probably 20 miles away. And there ain't no way i am traveling that far for fastfood.
