Chicago Cubs fans - Rebuilding Year 2023

My DH just texted me this:

I hate him.
OMG Robin...I say pics or it didn't happen, lol. How awesome tho! Well, Lackey did great. 10K's, robbed on that very first strike but it got him good and mad lol. Would like to see that tag on KB again. Beautiful bunt by Willy~the throw to first off the wrong foot hurt. Maybe the hit in the facemask didn't help. Great seeing Rizzo hit off Jansen again. Let's get them tomorrow!

The ring actually has more than 108 diamonds. It's the top of the ring that has 108, and then the rest of the diamonds total 214. That's crazy. I do think the ring is too big, but it is definitely an amazing design. I can see a man wearing it from time to time, but it did look a bit ridiculous on a women's hand. Of course, anyone who has one is super lucky to have been a part of this amazing historical moment.

Well good news! You can get a more reasonably sized pendant for a mere $10 grand.

Question for you all...

Where do you eat when you go to a game?
I usually just eat in the ballpark. It takes me 3-4 hours for me to get to the ballpark so I'm usually cutting it pretty close. Both places I used to eat before the game (Goose Island Brewery and Salt and Pepper Diner) were closed and bulldozed in the last two years to make room for apartments (!). I will sometimes eat at Bernie's on Clark and Waveland. I like their "smokie link" type sausages (a throwback to my youth at Wrigley) and they have good beer. I also enjoy the wings at Yak-Zie's on Clark a little north of Bernie's (a nod to late nights during my misspent youth at the original Yak-Zie's on Diversey).

I miss Yum-Yums. That was tradition!!
AND Byrons. Man, they made good beef sandwiches.

Oh ... I just remembered a place that we go to all the time: El Burrito Mexicano. It's just east of the El tracks on Addison. They have a 3 taco meal with rice and beans for about $10. BYOB.

Years ago, when seats were cheap, I would sit in the Bleachers, and eat my Brown's Chicken that I brought in from across the street on Addison/Clark. The game cost me less than $10, and the chicken under that. Those days are long gone. The Cubs weren't too bad back then. Lee Smith would make me nervous, as they brought him in for relief. A lot has changed. I need to make a trip, just to see the new Park, even if I never can afford an actual game. I'm 70 now, so watching the game at home is way better for me. Sure glad this team finally won a series. My almost 50 year old son is a real die hard. I am happy for him, and all the other diehards.

I have 3 favorites..
Sports Corner (I get the Italian Beef and self named it the Rizzo, lol~salad with BBQ ranch dressing every time),
Dark Horse on Sheffield(Cheeseburger and Green Line)I prefer the back patio
Bernie's again, I prefer the patio
Merkle's is decent too.

and if grabbing something? not Byron's, but Wrigleyville hot dogs, (across from the Metro) has never disappointed and is budget friendly.

a LOT of new offerings in the park now...you will not go hungry in The Friendly Confine's!

Edwards becoming one of my favorite Cub players.
he signed my hat last September, day after his birthday. We also see him riding his bike to the games/around Wrigleyville....very quiet guy but he looks you right in the eye. :thumbsup2

I predict he will be the Cubs closer after Wade Davis. I think they were considering him before they traded for Davis and decided was just a bit too green but kid is slinging it this year.

Wonder what the Cubs plan to do with Arrieta? Offer him a contract, trade him, or let him walk.
Cubs would love to keep him but Like Dex, Jake will turn down the Cub's offer and go for the bigger $. Iowa players like Happ and Candleario are trade bait now already for pitching (as much as I'd like to keep them) Jay is a 1 year contract and AAJ looking good so far so he will free up a little $ but Miggy's contract will also be ending. As much as Schwarber WANTS to catch I just don't see it but the guy has defied all odds so if he says he can, he prob can. That would free up an OF spot to keep Happ tho. I would love to see Szczur stay but I feel like the Cubs will bring him back somehow. CJ has always wanted to be a starter , the time needed to retrain for that would really hurt tho, but you never know.
ETA: Jake was really giving that ring a good , solid look the other night ..I would love if he stayed .

Cubs have money though, they shouldn't be getting beat out all the time. That being said, I've heard Theo has a man crush on that Japanese phenom Shohei Otani. But because of some new rules MLB put in, Otani may not turn pro until he turns 25 so he can cash in big time.

I think that will all depend on Jake and how he does during the season. I think the Cubs are still in the mode of putting together the best team and money isn't a factor if we don't have anyone better in the wings. They have the money so they can pay for him if they feel he still brings value to the team.

I have a girl-crush on Theo and will happily transfer that crush to anyone that Theo has a man crush on, LOL.

Cubs won't want the length contract Jake will be after~if Jake is willing to accept shorter years I can see the Cubs paying but Jake starting to enter injury territory (knock on wood) but he does take amazing care of himself. Cubs also have to time Rizzo/Bryant deals as those WILL be paid, lol
