Chicago Cubs fans - Rebuilding Year 2023

I was hoping for the Twinkies. I have an ingrained and unexplained dislike for the Yankees.
I have an ingrained and not unexplained dislike for the Yankees.

I have an ingrained and obvious gagging dislike for the Yankees..and their thumbs down (I know , from the twitter pic)and dugout copying interview lack of skill using a water bottle. The ONLY tolerable player for me on that team is Starlin

but I posted before that the NYY and the Astros are on my radar...unlike Robin who is being logical , I have no struggle to feel as if I should like them, like, at all, ever.

Never been much of a Stalin Castro fan, so I can't add that!

I can't go, but they are selling tickets to watch the away game in The Park at Wrigley: https://www.parkatwrigley.com/events/cubs-away-game-viewing-events-at-the-park-game1/2017-10-06

My daughter's sorority "family weekend" is this weekend.
maybe it will force the bars to keep their covers reasonable (if they start doing that again) I know that was one reason the bars were against the Park at Wrigley and Jumbotron...said it would hurt business during games. Have fun being a Sorority Mom!

I :lovestruc The Park. I stop there for every game now. Since The Park is only open to people with tickets on game days I don't see how that would detract from the bar scene during games. I do think that people will congregate outside The Park during the playoffs because of the size of the Jumbotron. I suspect that they will have to close down Clark Street because they won't be able to keep people moving and the sidewalk is very narrow adjacent to The Park.

FWIW, the tickets for these events are only for the away games.

Bars mean for away games...but personally I favor Waveland with my little radio

Based on Jake going 4 his injury still quite concerning to me. I hope like heck Big John is on the Roster.Kyle or Lester could go game 5 if needed. No further announcements are going to be made today on Lackey or roster according to 670 The Score.Jake will throw 2 bullpen sessions before game 4 so he could be changed due to how those go. Nats are only going to announce their game 1 pitcher tomorrow.

Agreed.
That is why I would've preferred Jake in pen and John in rotation. I hope it ends up being a non issue. Another thing to consider...Jon's first game back was rough too, so maybe it will be much better in game 4 (although, in my heart of hearts, hoping we end it in 3).

that's the thing tho, can't afford a rough start no room for error. Jake has a far more specific/regimented routine and the slightest deviation can change things in a hurry. Lackey , I think, adjusts to the moment better but we all know he takes 2 innings to get to that point. All but Kyle have had that slow start, hit their stride in the 4th in the last 2 months. I think if Lester had shown a stronger last outing he would be #1...well~ off to find the Otani fund, lol.
One thing I am going to have to control is my reaction to seeing Dusty chomping on that toothpick for 3 or more games, keep myself from flashing back to '03. Grrrrrrrrrrr. Well Joe showed the strength in announcing the first move. We're coming for ya Dusty!

Felix Pena has been designated for assignment and former Reds rookie Luke Farrell was picked up from waivers.

Farrell was one of the rookies who was sent over to the local Starbucks last weekend!

I do feel bad for Pena. he wasn't *that* bad but I think do that Farrell is better.

Was coming to post the same. I have mixed thoughts on this. The scary part of him was the runs he would give up , but Pena at least always seemed to give all he had, and he did pretty decent against the Card's~ unless his hitting Pham didn't go over too well ? That would be bogus tho..and his pick off of him was even better. Farrell sure has bounced around some~ based on the article he has quite the baseball family

Catching up on all the posts...

Fwiw, I personally am not going to miss Pena. In this era of metrics, if they posted an average contact velocity against for pitchers, I think he has the MLB record.

Well...technically not over but Rockies gave it all they had. I think AZ has the better chance against the Dodger's tho. These announcer's...I get Archie being a pitcher getting the RBI triple, but for them to go nuts over that and then mumble through Nolan and Story's B2B homer's was sad to hear. They didn't even try to sound fake enthused lol. Ugggh now Rodney and his dumb bow and arrow move if they win :rolleyes2

I remember Rodney when he was with the Cubs and I liked him. But I don’t remember the bow and arrow thing. Do you know why we didn’t keep him? Was he just a hired hand for the end of the season?

IIRC, Cub's got him for cash~didn't keep him because he was pretty unreliable (awful against the Dodger's in that '15 game and STILL did the arrow pose after getting pulled mid-inning.) He played for Joe on Tampa and was decent then.. Cub's got him when Motte was injured . Apparently , he prefers AZ, lol. Actually, I think he started to get better on the Cub's...and I remember the Mariner fan's stress when he went in.. kinda Marmol-esgue lol
