Remember the pattern where the Cubs lose the first game to take the next 2? I'd like to order that, please. Really missing Willy in the clean-up spot....soon

It's a BEAUTIFUL DAY for a ball game, for a ball game, today....:thumbsup2:sunny:

Let's go Monty!

Today's lineup Offense, help him out

I was wrong on Nelson:Counsell may not be too happy with himself that he had altered the roatation
Rotator cuff strain and partially torn labrum for Jimmy Nelson, according to GM David Stearns. Done for 2017.

Apparently I jinxed the game when I said it can't be worse than Monty's last one against the Brewers...my bad. Alo, I was NOT at this one, so the other 41,000+ can share the blame.

Go Pirate's..and all in Irma's path...please be safe

Looking ahead~
Montgomery will start again Thursday vs Mets. #Cubs will send 3 LHPs vs NY: Quintana, Lester and Montgomery

I got a really bad feeling this team is missing the playoffs. I just don't see the fire in their bellies.

At least my Wildcats won.

Sigh.

Still love my Cubbies but they do try my patience sometimes!

maybe the Brewers will get Cub-itis and put up a goose egg today after scoring so many. Poor Kyle never gets run support so that kinda worries me today...I am anxiously awaiting word on Willy. He was there in uniform yesterday but not technincally activated. Hoping there was no set back.
ETA:Willy has been activated!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Avail to PH

Todays broom repellant lineup..I'm liking Tommy in the 2 spot, KB in left. Figured Zobie w day off after he stayed in yesterday. Lots of Zobie grumblings on Twitter but he actually hit the ball this series. Schwarb's still not starting. Less wind here today, so far~

Brewers going for the sweep , hard.

STL pulled their usual go ahead scoring late in the game..but Dex hurt his knee in the 7th, day to day. All these late season injuries, a part of the sport I am not crazy about.

when a broken bat piece messes up a dp...you know the way the game is going to go. LaStells'a hit that deflected would have driven in one, maybe 2. Happ's and Javy's errors...I think the day off tomorrow will be greatly appreciated.
Hats off to the Brewer's...their pitching with our sloppy play handed them the sweep. Kyle gets no run support again. Brewers got to walk past the Trophy all weekend, I think they channeled it. It's a race now, folks...STL on a streak~
On the up side, we do not face DeGrom or Thor against the Mets. Watch Harvey have the game of his life Wednesday.
I asked for FL to be OK ...I guess the trade off was the sweep, sorry Cub Nation

Awww Fin! No apologies needed from you. We're just not going to win every game. Sadly, these were a few that we needed to. But the fat lady isn't singing yet (although she may be warming up her voice).

Chins up, Cubs fans. It's not over til it's over. And it's not over. :grouphug:

These Cubs players should be ashamed of themselves. But somehow, I doubt they are. They probably think it's all good.

You know, while I'm certainly not happy about what happened this weekend, it would be nice if you could post something positive after a win, instead of only posting something negative after a loss.

If we win again, if our players remember how to hit the ball, I'll definitely try my best. No promises though.

thought I would share that Kyle Schwarber's fund raiser for First Responder's is tonight, on the eve of 9/11. Hoping he has a great turn out and event.
So we are 2 games up and here's a wild one~had we swept the Brewers? We would be 8 games up, and the Dodger's are currently 9. Yep, they have lost enough games now to reduce their double digit lead. I think the Brewer's broke them lol.
Sure was fun seeing Willy in the box today!

and here's a wild one~had we swept the Brewers? We would be 8 games up

Well, true that we'd be 8 up on Milwaukee but still at best only 5 up on StL who swept the Pirates over the weekend. Alas, it is what it is, 2 up only on both of them with 11 games (corrected) left with them head on.

I was there today. Man, we had our chances. Brewers pitched well all weekend (they lined up their best) and we scored 3 total in 3 games ?!

Here's a positive thought: what it will take to win the division now... if we are successful... is exactly what we'll need to make the best run in the playoffs. Maybe it's fate. There's a high correlation of the last month 's play to playoff "success".

We have so many weapons and our top 5 (!) pitchers have had spurts of greatness. We need our assets to be firing on 80%+ of their cylinders not 50%. It's like wackamole. This gets better and then that gets worse, something different every time.

:welcome: Sepo!

Glad you got to see the game where we had the lead for a smidge! Our Roster IS whack-a-Mole, never know who is going to be playing! Injuries have been brutal, on a team already taxed from what is possibly a 3rd play-off run in 3 years..Not sure if any of them could accurately say who the 40 are right now (Might not be at 40, 34 or 35 I think, w/Willy now)

While I know the Brewers timed their pitching, I get the feeling we weren't gonna dominate even if Garza was throwing. The errors and bad luck plays, minds were on Irma, a new guy from AAA every inning this last week. One thing that they are not used to is booing from the crowd (I don't mean for Braun) Fan's make a difference. The guys feed off of it, they have said so, a lot. Everyone says the Cubs need to do something to get the crowd going, but a lot of time's it's the other way around. Crowd needs to cheer and rattle pitcher's. Help pump up the guy at bat a little more than just his walk up music. This year (and I understand the "newer crop") of fan's want it all, everyday and do not seem to support when it isn't happening for them. The level of play the Cubs are at now is still pretty stellar compared to 2 years ago, to be in first? Mid Sept? I am not making excuses for the Cub's, but if the fan's want to be ticked, they literally are part of the puzzle. Both the Pirates and Cubs looked fairly lifeless in their series, maybe because there were 5,000 fans' there?
Sometimes I get the feeling that they (Cubs)click better with their backs against the wall this season. Now their version of how close is WAY different than mine, lol. I keep seeing snippet's of "we have been there" i.e. play-off's/W.S.~ or "we have the experience, we know what to do." I am wondering of part of that is the drop we had before the ASB last year and they came roaring back, that they just figured since they did they same this year, they were kinda bullet proof? (For the division, I mean) Figured no way would they blow a 5 game lead .(Which they havn't but~ yikes!) Well, Brewers face the Pirate's psyched on their sweep of us, but since they used their top pitching against us hoping the Buc's take one or 2. Garza is a liability for them, maybe to eat a few innings if needed and hopefully the Buc's can strike then. Need Miami and and the Stanton HR machine to also tire them out. Molina is on a hot streak and you can guarantee Dex will be back by this weekend against us. He's been doing that all season this year...kinda hurt but not against the Cubs. If the Brewers beat Miami in their next series, they will be so pumped when we play them that Cubs won't recognize them..even w/out Nelson. ETA: Hoping all is ok w/Marlins Park...If not this series could take place in Milwaukee Good trend is we have won more than lost at Miller Park this season, would be nice if that continued. Matter of fact, they seem to play better on the road than at Wrigley for a lot of series this year. Winning that World Series at the opponents house maybe has something to do with that :teeth:

Also, THANK YOU for posting a positive thought! For the life of me, I will never understand how fan's think a positive outcome occur's from negative thinking:confused3

OK - let's assess where we are.

Hmmm.. looks like FIRST PLACE!!! With a 2 game lead. Even after being swept! The Brewers and Cards realize it took all the running they could do just to still be looking up at the Cubs.

Choke? Hardly. They have been a streaky team all year. The hangover thing is real (don't have the stats but it's typical for WS winners to miss the playoffs the next year.)

The Cubs were overconfident I'm afraid - the post I made where they only had to win 3 of 7 against each of the Brewers and Cards probably was how the Cubs themselves were thinking. That is - they had no urgency. That's fine for fans like me - not players.

But I trust Madden will get their heads straight. Maybe a lineup shock is in order?

Buckle up - it's going to be GREAT when they prevail and end up in first again!

FINFAN - a lot of truth in your post. The fans DO need to act like they are supporting a team continuing to learn how to win; strange to say given they are World Champs - but a lot of times young players taste success early and think it's a given to some extent.

As a 65 year old guy who accepted I'd never see the Cubs win the WS - I can't accept booing them under these circumstances. But I guess it's a sign of progress - expectations are far higher now than they were in "my day".
