Hi Everyone!

It's the first day of school and once again, I teared up when my baby got on the schoolbus. Big bus, little nervous person, and an overly sentimental Mom = Misty Eyes. Thank goodness for sunglasses, she didn't see me mist over.

She got out of bed this morning and said, Mom, I'm scared. I sat down with her on my lap and told her, I had a big secret for her. The secret is that... So is everyone else!! I told her all your friends will be nervous this morning too. It's totally normal. I gave her a good game plan about just going to her room, saying hi to the teacher, finding her desk, and I told her to just sit quiet and watch what's going on. I said, if you are too busy blabbering, you won't hear the instructions the teacher gives. I said, you'll be coming home on the bus before you know it!

I remember those first nervous days of school and I told her all the stuff I wished my Mom would have said to me. My Mom was a drill seargent. She'd just tell us to get dressed and go to school. I always thought I was the only one who had butterflies in my tummy the first few days of school.

Slo: Yes, we went to AG Place yesterday and it was a really nice trip. A perfect cap to a really nice summer. Megan had her Nicki and her Bitty. Nicki had her hair done. It was fun, but scary at first. They brushed Nicki's hair  and I thought they had taken all the curl out! I nearly died. Megan almost cried, but the girl said, she was going to put them all back in... Whew! Her hair looks amazing! We bought one outfit for Bitty, one for Nicki, and one for her Just Like Me Doll, Emily, and the hair care kit (brush, book, video, hair-bobs) and that's it. I told her we weren't buying out the store and I think we did pretty good. So, that was it, plus the $10.00 hair-do for Nicki and the girls there are sooo sweet, they threw in a few ribbons on Bitty's head for free! I got to see a picture of Julie Albright and her friend Ivy and both dolls are adorable, but I have to admit, Julie is just downright gorgeous for a doll. I can't wait for her to come out.

My other favorite is the Elizabeth doll from the 1774 collection. I keep trying to talk Megan into getting her, but she's non-plussed. She likes Kit. Sigh... Elizabeth is so beautiful and clothes are drool-worthy!

So, anyway, it was a really really nice day and I told Megan we really hadn't had that nice a day in a long time. We were both a bit crabby the day we went to the Doorway to Dreams thing and we got on each other's nerves, but yesterday turned out wonderfully! Megan was so upbeat and happy and there was no attitude all day. :cloud9:

So, I can't wait for her to get off the bus and it won't be long now! So, I'll have sign on later once I get to hear all about the big first day of school!

Good luck to everyone who has children going back to school! I hope they all have wonderful days!

Tiggerrn2........ Good luck to your family also. I hope everyone does well and recovers quickly!

Mike...great job in Fat March! I just watched the last two episodes and you are doing so well! It looks so challenging! Did you ever start a Fat March thread here? You really should!

Have a great day everyone. I am lettting the kids play outside since it is so nice. I have so much cleaning to do but summer days are fleeting.......:guilty:

Good evening all. We are home-since about 4. Kids are doing well. Eating lots of popscicles. Kellie loves the blue jello I made her last night. She is writing me notes and tapping her pen on the table to get my attention. Watching TV now, but was on Webkinz for some time when we got home.
DS has been on Webkinz, moved on to E-bay (shopping for Star Wars mini-figs. He cracks me up.), and then moved on to his Star Wars Lego PC game. DD wants me to go downstairs with her now to watch FireHouse Dog. So that is what I am going to go do. I'll probably fall asleep.

Bunchkin, about your kids/bed question, seems no matter if I put mine to bed early, they also find things to keep getting up about, and then it is the same old late time when they finally settle down. So, I get all worked up for nothing. Just should let them go to sleep when they are ready. Would save me the stress.

Thanks for all your thoughts and prayers for the kids. We appreciate it. Going to go watch her movie now.

Hi everyone!! :wave2:

Such a busy day for us here!! :faint: I'm so ready to crash!!
9.gif

Got Lauren off to school first this morning. She had an awesome day, her words. :) Loves her teacher. And her room is decorated to the hilt in horse/ranch decorations and stuff. It's very cute.
From word of mouth from other moms I know, the teacher Lauren got is wonderful!!! So glad to hear that!!! ::yes::

Both Tony and I took Hunter to his orientation. He had a great time investigating his room, the library and the school office. Then he met his bus driver and got to see where he'll sit on the bus. He was disappointed we didn't have time to check out the gym, but gym class is tomorrow so he's looking forward to it. :)
Tonight he was showing such excitement about going back tomorrow for his first full day of class.

I have an errand to run tomorrow morning so it will keep my mind off of missing him too much! ;)

And tomorrow afternoon I go to see the heart doctor. Hoping to find out why my heart is still acting up!!! :confused3

paint I like your son's t-shirt you described!!! :rotfl2:

slo Glad to hear Stephanie had a good first day and she's pleased with her teacher!! :)

SamIAm Sounds like you and Megan had a good day yesterday!! I hope she had a good first day of school! :)

Tiggerrn Glad to hear the kids are doing well!!!
I can't believe Kyle even knows how to access Ebay!!!

Hersey Same group of rowdy stuffed animals is occupying Hunter's bed again tonight. :rotfl:

Have a great night all!!!

Hello from Los Angeles!! Carol and I checked into the Sheraton Universal yesterday evening. I've been busy at work all day today, but Carol went on a tour of the star's homes. I haven't seen her yet to get the details, but she told me on the phone she really enjoyed it. I'm thinking she'll probably do a tour of Hollywood tomorrow while I sit here and toil away. ;)

Anyway, hope everyone is doing well. Will check in when I can. Night all!!

What a sleepless night we all had last night.
Between terrible storms, tornado warnings, Kevin's fire dept. pager going off and him coming and going, and the girls in and out of the room, I should have never gone to bed last night  I am so tired this morning :faint: There is suppossed to be more storms tonight - I hope they aren't as severe as last night (fingers crossed), we all need to sleep.

How were the storms by you? Were they as bad as what was by us? Hopefully you all got more sleep than me.

bigben - I will have to check out those pictures :thumbsup2

Sam - How was Megan's first day of school :teacher: I can definitly understand the emotions you had yesterday  I had those 2 a couple of years ago when Stephanie started 1st grade (that's was the first time she had to go on the bus).
**I'm glad you and Megan had a great day in the city :goodvibes What a nice memory for both of you :goodvibes

Tiggeeeeern - I"m so glad the kids are doing well :yay: I thought about them often yesterday. I"ll send loads of PD their way :wizard: :wizard: :wizard: :wizard:

Bunchkin - Is Hunter going to all day kindergarten or 1/2 day kindergarten?
**I'm so glad the kids had a great first day of school:teacher:
**Good luck with the doctor today - I hope he has some answers for you

Crissup - Hi there!!!! Have a great time in California, I can hardly wait to hear all about it :)

To everyone else - :wave2:

Well, I'm off to get ready for work
Have a good day today everyone!!!

Have a good day today everyone!!!

Megan had a good day at school and she was very happy with her teacher. Her bus rides were uneventful, although it did seem like it took a while for her to get home, I was just about to start calling the school when her bus turned the corner. It took almost an hour from the time school was dismissed.

Want to hear something really upsetting though, the school had just installed all new gorgeous, colorful and really fun looking playground equipment. Late last week, someone came along and used an accelerant (gas or something) and burned it down? Who would do that? I am floored and actually a little heartbroken for them. :sad1: I never understand the motives of someone who would want to hurt little kids. Now no one was physically hurt or burned, but the kids are so bummed and they won't have a playground now for at least a month. The kids and staff at the middle school up the hill are being very nice and have offered the use of their playground when it is not being used by the middle school kids. This was obviously very purposeful given that they have found traces of accelerant.

I could tell by the note sent home that the principal at Megan's school is also heartbroken. Her feelings were all over the note sent home.

So, other than that, it was a good day and Megan must have had a hard time sleeping the night before because she really konked out when she got home. She slept for two hours yesterday afternoon. Between nerves, storms, etc., she was just in need of some extra Zzzzz's.

Am I the only one who is ready for this weather pattern to be gone!?? I have always loved thunderstorms and I am fascinated by weather. I have always wanted to chase tornados or just ride out a hurricane in a safe place, like the Contemporary, just to experience it, but even I am getting sick of these freakin thunderstorms. I'm so tired of being woke up every darn night. I'm ready for FALL! Let's get some crisp temps and warm sunshine! And the humidity can leave any time it wants to now!

Okay enough whining from me about something I have absolutely no control over! Have a great Thursday everyone!!

:wave2:

Good Morning all!!!

So a short while ago I put Hunter on the bus for school and I literally felt pain in my chest! :sad1: Like my heart was breaking.
I can't believe I'm feeling that emotional.
I'm going to miss him!
And I just got a call from DH asking me how I'm doing without my little buddy here.

Our morning schedule works out good here. Lauren is up at 6:20am and I spend an hour alone with her as she then gets on the bus right before 7:30. And then right after that is when I wake Hunter. So then I get an hour alone with him. I think it works out perfect being able to spend time with each of them separately before school. :goodvibes

slo Hunter is in 1/2 day. Not many full day kindergartens around here, public school wise.
We had horrible storms here too. The wind and rain made impossible to see outside!!! Stuff was flying everywhere. It didn't wake Lauren but we did get a visit from Hunter twice. I'm just glad it stopped before Tony went to the train station. It's no fun getting soaked before work!! ;)
Your night sounded really rough too!! :sad2:

Crissup WOW! It sounds like Carol is having a great time!!! :rotfl: Sorry you're missing out of some of the fun!!

Tiggerrn I hope the kids are doing well this morning!! What color Jello will you be making today?? :thumbsup2
Heard anything more from the auto shop that scratched up your minivan?

Well, I gotta run!! Errands to run today.

Lauren came home telling us of the damage to the playground.

It's teens. They were spotted by some of the surrounding neighbors.
And it's probably the one's who damaged the old set last year too!! Real class act JERKS!!!

Actually the 1-3 graders will be having recess WITH the middle school kids.
4th graders with 3rd graders, 5th graders with 2nd graders and 6th with 1st!!
That last one should be a hoot to watch!! 12 yr olds with 6yr olds!!!

Tell Lauren I said thanks so much for being so kind and generous to her old alma mater. I know the Haines kids will completely appreciate it! Megan was sad because we didn't even go over and see the new set on Walk-Through day. My Dad was with us and I didn't want to drag him back there. Now I wish I did. I got to see it this morning and I am probably more upset than Megan is.

Teenagers.... Arrrghhh!!! I hope they figure out who it is and throw the book at them. Their parents should be responsible for the little heathens and pay for a new set. If my kid ever did that, I'd literally send him/her off to a military school or a boarding school in the hinterlands of Vermont!

Thank goodness kindergarten is half a day huh! The little man will be home real soon!

What school was the playground destroyed at???? Kevin went to Haines and Oakview for the first part of fourth grade. That is just so sad that there are idiots like that out there.

All of my kids had a great first day of school. Lauren was a bit nervous at the bus stop, but did great. She did tell me last night, before supper, "Mommy, I am tired. She worked me hard today."

Yeah, those kids are real choice!!!
Last year Lauren came home on a Monday from school telling us how over the weekend the old playground was defaced with tons of swear words!! :sad2:
Can you even imagine your own child doing that!??!!!!
Who knows if they know the identity of these criminals though?
They must live in that appox area because you know they were walking.
Have you ever seen what they do at the park across the street!???

Thank goodness kindergarten is half a day huh! The little man will be home real soon!

Thanks!!! :goodvibes As grumpy as he can be some days, I really miss that kid!! He's always been able to put me in a good mood! And you know sometimes he says the funniest things! :teeth:

It always shocked me at how bad the park across from Haines would get. Kevin's best friend (when we lived in New Lenox) cut his had pretty bad when he fell on some broken glass there. Not to mention the horror stories I would hear about other things the older kids were doing. I too can not imagion my own child doing something liek that.

Bunchkin ~ does Hunter go to Cherry Hill, or the newer kindergarten school? Here in Mokena, we have all day kindergarten (you can opt for half day though) and I like it much better than what Kevin had at Cherry Hill. Poor kid was on the bus for close to an hour, to only be at school for such a short time. He loved it though, and still talks about his teacher and doing the circus show at the end of the year.

Morning everyone! Wow first days of school everywhere! What fun! ::yes:: Everything is going well over here, just seems that these days are draaaaggggiiiinnnnggggg......

Have a good one!!

good thursday morning chicagoland homies.

just think, today if Friday Eve....

it is so nice to hear all the fun the kids have had going back to school.
all of you with littles must be relieved that all has gone well.

tiggeerrrnnn, hope the kids are doing fine after the surgery.
i think it is an easier surgery when the children are little and not in their 20's.. mine took 3 weeks to recovery.
keep us updated on how your's are going. sending pixie dust for a speedy recovery:wizard: :wizard:

we go back to school up in zion next monday. i had to go for my blood pathogen movie for this year's certification to work. the same video the last 16 years.......

anyone else flooded like we are in lake county?
zion is not bad at all compared to the communities right next to us.

hope today is great for all of you!

Oh yeah!!! Once again -- my 10 year old woke up freaking out (he does NOT like storms) -- so I had to be a mean mom and shew him back to his own room and it just seemed like it went on forever last night. I was pretty much awake for 90% of it. It wouldn't be so bad if it wasn't the first week of school. It's hard enough getting everyone back into the grind of waking up early but then to not get good sleep due to the weather. UGH. I'm so tired. At least the 2 youngest slept right on through it. Apparently DD heard it but she deals with it on her own, so even though it woke her up -- she doesn't come and tell me about it. :rotfl2: I found out this morning when I said something about all the rain last night with her informing "I know it woke me up".

Hey guys if you want to see some pictures from Fat March go to www.myspace.com/2andout and click on my pics.
Oh yeah good morning all.

I'll have to go check it out. I would have never watched this show (considering I live under a rock and if it's not a preschool show I'm clueless!) since I hadn't heard of it. Now I'm hooked -- I'm anxious to see what happens each week. Although some of the drama drives me crazy since I'm rooting for everyone to finish & don't like the purposefully trying to start trouble issues. I know TV edits things though in weird ways so you never really know everything that is going on. My DD watches it with me to -- she was NOT happy I would not let her stay up late and watch it this Monday considering we are going back to school & she needs to get back into the groove of going to bed at a decent time and waking up early. The CT part was fun for me because my sister lives there and I was familiar with some of it.

Yesterday was our first day back at school. It was only 1/2 day so it was interesting. I did find there are 21 students in DD's French class & only 3 guys (which could be good or bad depending on your perspective. :lmao: ). We were really, really curious as to how many kids since no one DD asked seemed to be taking it, the counselors called me trying to get DD to drop it (long story) & then come to find out the French teacher isn't even there on 1/2 days but we did figure that out because she's part-time and so would only work afternoons -- that is why she isn't there on 1/2 days. They had a sub who doesn't speak French. :rotfl2: :rotfl2: I really think DD has a fantastic schedule for this year -- she basically in her team center 90% of the day except for gym, lunch & choir. Turns out her science teacher was on the same gymnastics team that DD is on -- so she thought that was a bit freaky but in a good way. Made her feel at ease in the class -- now let's see how well she does in the class. :) Hard to really get a real impression of what the teachers are like the first day though, especially a 1/2 day.

The only bad thing (can't remember if I said this already or not -- a couple times I had stuff typed then got sidetracked, didn't post) is the teacher's as of Tuesday did not know Carolyn had a back brace. The nurse is supposed to e-mail them. I hope so or it's going to be interesting if she gets a detention for tardies to Language Arts class after gym. I will NOT be happy with that and have to go fix it but I don't want to have to go fix something that should be taken care of in the first place. Today is the first full day so we shall see IF DD can get in & out of the lunch table with her brace :o Poor thing -- we didn't have to deal with that last year as she had it off for lunch, so either she will have to sit on the end or get a chair if she gets stuck. She's resiliant though, I know she'll figure something out either that or have her first embarassing moment of the school year (and if she's like me -- she will have many more to come!). At least they will all think she has super great posture. ;)

The boys were really happy with their teacher and I was :rotfl: when all of sudden one of my 5th graders friend asked him about "that song that you knew the words too" -- turns out the 5th grade teacher played "All in This Together" from HSM. He started singing right away, didn't need the words that were passed out -- I had to ask him if he was trying to dance too -- he said "sort of" basically was squirming in his seats but he wasn't the only one. Mostly other girls. I was rolling. I told him his sister was going to be so jealous & she was when I was telling her. He has the same aide in his classroom as last year so that's a bonus. :thumbsup2 Since she already knows him and worked with him this summer too.

The 2nd grader -- didn't get much out of him other than "you know we don't have to put our gym shoes under our desk this year? They go in a bin." That was the big really important news for him to share about yesterday. My DD had this same 2nd grade teacher so not a big deal for me.

Amazingly enough this year I wasn't sad at all probably because all of mine were thrilled to be going, so they were bouncy happy and couldn't wait to get there (well...maybe DD wasn't "bouncy" happy but she was happy). I usually do get misy-eyed every year and not even necessarly about my kids. I will see the little ones and just think "awww". Of course, for ME -- I will get misty-eyed the last day of school this year because it's my son's last year at grade school, my DD's last year at Middle School, etc... THOSE are when I'm going to lose it.

Now it's just me and the little guy.

Finally, I got a link to share my PhotoPass pics from DL. :yay:

http://www.disneyphotopass.com/share.aspx?share=a43e2670-1bbe-4313-9494-f9b6d2663ced&site=DisneyLandResort

Most of them are Segway pics, but there are a couple in front of the castle (wanted to see how that turned out at night) and a couple at the entrance. I don't really do much PP, and it's new at DL and they didn't have as many photogs out as at WDW, IMO.

The big difference was with the characters. That was the place where I might have really wanted to have a photog there, since I was by myself and I would have maybe liked some pics. But DL is so different, they don't even have a handler or necessarily even a line, let alone a PP person. So there really isn't anyone to take your pic unless you just impose on someone. You seriously would not even believe it if you haven't been there. Minnie was at the entrance (when I got my pic taken there) and didn't even have a line, it was just a small mob.

Not much business today :sad2: Everyone must be to tired to shop after the storms last night

My girls had such a hard time getting up this morning. Katie was so funny though - when I woke her up she said very groggy "Can I eat breakfast in the car today?" I said, "Sure, if you'd like." She smiled and jumped out of bed and said, "Thanks mom - I love eating in the car!!!!" and I thought, no thank you for getting out of bed so easily :thumbsup2 She loves loves loves eating breakfast in the car:confused3 The way I look at it, whatever works to get her out of bed happy :teeth:

Sam - I'm so glad that Megan had a good first day of school:teacher: How infuriating about that playground equipment getting destroyed:mad: Hopefully those kids will get a taste of juvenile detention!!!!

Bunchkin - The public schools here also only have 1/2 day kindergarten, but they may have all day when Katie is ready for kindergarten.
**Sending hugs your way to help you feel better about Hunter starting kindergarten  (you'll need to send those back when Katie starts kindergarten, because I know I will be very emotional too :sad1: )

piglet - I"m glad your kids had a great first day of school :teacher:

DMM - How are you feeling lately? Did the pain in your leg go away?

Mac - There are some areas by us that have some flooding, but thank God we have none by our house. I don't know how much more this area can take:headache: The retention area across the street from our house was 1/2 full last night, and I'm hoping it went down some today, because it could overflow like it did last year with the more storms that's coming tonight - THAT WOULD BE BAD!!!!:scared1:

Becky - I"m glad your kids had a good first day of school :teacher: Enjoy your time with your little guy, as you know, they grow up so fast:guilty:

Leigh - Great pictures!!! Thanks for sharing them with us!!! :goodvibes Have a great rest of your time at DL, and I can hardly wait to hear about your trip when you come home.

Well, I guess I should go back to work
Have a good rest of the day everyone!!!
