This is cool!!

I just was reading the Republican and there is this profile that the child on the Pirates toy boxes is a local little boy!

It's kind of funny because apparently they didn't realize he would be on the boxes as the article says his mom "screamed with excitement" when she saw him on it at the store. :rotfl2:

He's a 3rd grader at one of our elementary schools. I don't know him as it's not at the one my kids go to but thought it was pretty cool.

He took a 16-week course from the Barbizon School of Modeling in Schaumburg. It's kind of nice to know if your kids are interested in modeling that this particular school really does get the kids jobs/prepared for jobs. I'm not interested but I've gotten several of their postcards and it always makes you wonder just how legit these places are.
Cool! :thumbsup2
Never heard of Barbizon School of Modeling  I guess I could google it to get more info.

Have a good Memorial Day weekend everyone!

:rotfl2::rotfl2:I can't wait to tell Bill that story...that is hysterical!!!

KristineN If your DH wants to trade cicada stories I have one. When living alone I had one stuck in between the storm window and the window it's self. It was banging so hard against the window I thought someone was breaking in so I called the police. They couldn't find anyone but the did hear the racket when they came in my apartment they had guns drawn and then they found out it was one of those ugly bugs.:scared1:
:welcome: by the way
.

My entire weekend is filled with soccer....the world of traveling soccer can be a real PITA!!!

We don't have any cicadas either.

Maybe Saturday at the nature party there will be some since it in a wooden location. I think our location has just been too much growth/disturbed the ground within the last 17 years.

No cicades here in the NW burbs either... and tomorrow we are finishing Geoff Eagle Project so we will be at the natue center.. so we will see if there are any there ..

Good morning. Ok I know I'm strange but where did the storms go. I thought with how strong the winds were it was going to be a doozy but nada, just a little rain. My grass needs more and I cheap, I don't water the grass unless I really have to..

No rain here either.. Hersey that is so funny, all of my neighbors are starting to water but I am too cheap too. So I just am hoping that it doesn't rain on the Eagle project tomorrow.. then it can pour... from 10 pm - 6 am..

I just got a letter from New Dimensions and they are closing the consumer research center.. so no more opportunites for extra money for us..

I just got a letter from New Dimensions and they are closing the consumer research center.. so no more opportunites for extra money for us..
Hi Geffric :wave2:
Thanks for letting me know it's closing, b/c I was seriously going to look into New Dimensions- oh well.

Sorry about it closing :guilty:

Rose- Hey there! How was ds' field trip?
Bunchkin- How di you get your kids to dislike choc cereal? Do they dislike all choc stuff? Boy, I wish I did!
Becky- I have heard of Barbizon, but I am so leery of those places. DS is an absolute doll, and a real ham as well, but I never respond to modeling stuff bc I always think they are scams!

paint My kids are choco-aholics like their dad!!!
But for some reason they just hate every chocolate type cereal they have ever tried. They claim that it doesn't taste like real chocolate. Which I agree, that stuff is nasty!! I've spent my fair share of money on those types of cereals just to have to through them out because no one liked them!!!

I'm off to the grocery store to stock up for this weekend!!! Because you know all weekend it will be crazy at the stores!!!!
Like the year Jewel by our house ran out of hot dog and hamburger buns because someone came in and bought them ALL up, every brand, for a HUGE bbq they were having!!

Regarding consumer opinions -- I know of Kidzeyes

http://www.kidzeyes.com/

That this is legit. My kids signed up for it before we went on our Disney trip in 2005 and had about $20 for spending money from it.

I believe it's ages 6-12 and then you can move up to "Teenzeyes".

I wasn't sure how it would go so as soon as they hit the minimum we cashed it in and sure enough a legit check. I know they are based out of Chicago because that's where you have to send/fax the permission slip.

It was interesting to have to explain demographics to my 2 older kids because one was upset that the other one was getting more surveys so had more $$. They were pretty close by vacation time rolled around. They even have parents take surveys occassionally and when that happens ALL your kids get credit. :thumbsup2

Just an FYI. Works for us and is an easy way for my kids to earn a little of their own money without me actually having to take them anywhere. :lmao:

Becky-never heard of kidzeyes- something to look into :scratchin

Paintnolish- my DS's Art Institute/Millenium Park field trip went well :thumbsup2 Alot of walking. They did a kids tour for their age groups in the Art Inst. Everyone carried these folding chairs to about 4 paintings. The tour guide lady would have the kids interpret each painting. Much different tours than the last time I went many yrs ago. After an hour of that, then we ate our sack lunches in the Art Inst. cafeteria. Then my DS's gifted teacher gave each small group of kids a choice if we want to continue on looking at paintings or go to Millenium Park. The majority of the small groups went to Mil. Park since it was beautiful out! Once those kids saw the fountains and wading water, most took off their shoes and socks and splashed around. Some of the kids got soaked in the fountains! Most had to go back on the bus with wet socks and pants. The bean sculpture was interesting as were a couple of the fountains.
Thanks for asking :)
DS had his Robert Crown Center health class field trip yest. DD had her Robert Crown field trip today.

Hi to all :wave2:

Good evening all. DS is sick again.:sad2: Always when we have plans for a nice weekend. This weekend we were going to go to Illiana Speedway on Saturday, Shedd on Sunday and Brookfield Zoo on Monday. Now, who knows?!! I am pretty sure it is strep again. Took him to have a culture done. Waiting now for results. I just can't seem to convince Dr. to do a rapid strep so I could find out right away. She wants a throat culture to be sure and to verify correct antibiotic. I will take him to her office in the AM and see if I can convince her to give him the usual antibiotic so at least our entire weekend isn't ruined. At least by Sunday afternoon he would be feeling better. And if nothing else, we should still be able to make the zoo on Monday.
Mac, nurse here but from South Suburbs. What might I be able to help you with? Feel free to PM me.
Hi, Rose. Sounds like your kids had some nice field trips.
:welcome: KristineN. You look like you are going to have an awesome Disney year. Enjoy your trips and be sure to keep us all posted. We all live vicariously through each others' trips to anything Disney.
Anyone recall where Sk8Leigh was off to this time?
Jedi, where are you?
geffric, hope you have a nice weekend for your DS Eagle Scout project.
To those of you who mentioned Barbizon: I knew a mom whose DD went there. They made it a mom/daughter special thing, and her DD made a nice amount of $$ for herself with magazine ads. I had DD involved with a company, Kids.com (not that as a website-the name of the company. The website is justourkids.com) I think they were a fraud for the most part. They did have a few kids that got jobs. I have a friend I play soccer with and her son did get into a few things through them. But they send you to photographers twice a year and then post kids picture on their website. Then, if a company sees your child and wants to use them, they call the company and you get a % and so does the company. We never got one call. The contract was 5 years. Cost $600 plus the cost of each photo shoot (which was only $20 if you didn't want to purchase any of the proofs or anything.) The only reason I thought I'd try it was DD was picked out at our local grocery store during a commercial shoot by the producer of the commercial and they had me bring her back to try out for the commercial. Unfortunately, we waited for an hour (she was about 9 months old at the time) and they hadn't finished with the other child they were trying to use (he wasn't cooperative) and it was getting late. They paid me $100 cash just for sitting there and waiting. So, I thought I'd try her through a modeling company. I picked the wrong one. I've often thought of trying Barbizon. If she shows any interest in something like that, I would try it again I think. College $$$
Well, going to get PJs on and relax. DS fell aslepp on :dog: new bed. Dog is lying on DS blanket asleep right next to him. Need a picture.
Think I'll watch the first 2 pirate: movies, so I am fresh for POTC3.
Later all!!!

Well, my sign didn't go up again yesterday
My friend who recommended him (he also did her sign) left him a flaming message, and told him that she's not referring him anymore. So we'll see if I have a sign on Tuesday:rolleyes:

paint - Thanks for the review on pirate: I can hardly wait to see it!!!

Becky - That's cool about the local boy on the cereal box. A couple of years ago there was a local little girl on the Pull-Ups bag - I framed a TON of these bags for the mom to give away to family and friends:)

Bunchkin - Have fun seeing pirate: today!!!
**The sign is hanging on the building right above the store. The landlord is also putting up a huge sign next to RT. 30 that I will also have a sign in.
**I found the couch - thanks!!!!! I ordered it today from the Wal-Mart website along with a folding up moon chair, and folding up kids table and chairs - this is all for my office at the store:thumbsup2

Crissup, Rose, Kristine - :wave2:

geffric - I'm will send lots of PD for no rain today :wizard: I hope Geoffs Eagle Project finishes up great - please let us know how it went.

Tiggggernnn - I'm so sorry to hear about Kyle being sick:guilty: Sending lots of PD his way to feel better soon :wizard:

Well, I gotta run and get ready for me day
We are going to store for a little while, and then maybe I can get some planting in.

Have a good day today!!

Hi everyone :)

Still no Cicadas here...I may go look for a giant rubber fly so I can torture Bill with it :rotfl2:I see him looking on the ground every day...cracks me up!

Are any of you folks DVC people? I have a job interview at Woodfield for the store they are opening there...should be interesting...

Good afternoon, Chicagoland! Happy Memorial Day weekend...a special thank you to all of our servicemen and women, both past & present....

Brian went to see Pirates this week and said it was okay, although he felt it was kind of long. And, they didn't stay for whatever played after the final closing credits (I read a review that said to be sure to stay, but didn't have a chance to tell him before he went). We are thinking of a movie today--I know Mark would like to see Pirates, but I think I am more in the mood for a comedy...Shrek??

Christopher is recovering from oral surgery. He had all four wisdom teeth removed. <ouch> This was about a week ago, and he is still experiencing pain, and also some numbness around his lip/chin area. At the follow-up visit, the dr said it could take as long as *six months* for that nerve to wake up again.

Mark & I are still planning a getaway for June...now, we are back to thinking of Mackinac Island again! I found out it's Lilac Festival time during the time we want to go. Honestly, I don't know if I'd ever talk him into going there another time besides now since it would be for my birthday, so I am pretty sure that is where we are going. Although, you know what they say, life is what happens while you are busy making other plans...so I will just say, that is the current "idea"!

SLO...hope things continue to progress along for the store.

GEFFRIC..let us know how the Eagle project turns out. You must be very proud!

TIGGERN...I'm sorry your son is not feeling well. Pixie dust for quick feeling better!

HERSEY...Loved your cicada story! What did you say to them when it turned out to be bugs??

KRISTINE...Welcome! Where do you travel for soccer??

KIM...Always good to see you posting! How is everyone doing?

MAC...you are still in my thoughts...hope everything is okay with you.

EVERYONE...a special shout-out, as usual, to ALL of Chicagoland...have a good day today!:cool1:

Donna...

so far this year we have only travelled as far as Rockford (I am in Park Ridge) there has been some talk of going to Iowa though :scared1:

I have always wanted to go to Mackinac Island...tell me about it...is it really nice?
My kids all want to go to POTC 3...just can't fit it in this weekend

hello chgoland homies.
thank you for the kind thoughts for my son.

he is not well at all and he is now in the hospital.

please remember us in your prayers.

i will more than likely be MIA for sometime.

you can pm me if you like.

hope you all have a great holiday weekend.

Hi..

Geoff got about 2 hours into the Eagle Project part 3 and then it started to rain.. so he still has 1 more thing.. and then maybe he will be donw unless the nature center decides that they want another thing or two done. And no cicades at the nature center.. :confused3

KristineN we are DVC own at OKW since '93.. good luck with the interview..

MAC i sent you a PM.. prayer for your son.

Donna - you can tell Christopher that when I had the wisdon teeth out it did take months and more months for the feeling to come back..
whatever you June get way is, it will be fun and just to get away..

Hi Rose.. I was sorry about new dinensins too m DH said we lost several hundred $$ per year.. on well maybe something new will come up so we can get extra $$.

Tiggerrn2 how does DS feel today. Did the DOc give him some antibiotics?

SLO  about your lack of sign... maybe he has a good reason? I hope you get it Tuesday.

Eric is at POTC with friends at Woodfield, Geoff is going with friends tomorrow.. Some day DH and I will get to see it..

Good evening all.
DS does indeed have strep once again. He is on Zithromax. I'm sure he will feel better by Monday, but looks like race plans and either the zoo or the Shedd will be out. Actually, DH and his group got rained out for the race tonight as well, so at least we didn't miss out on that.
Tomorrow, we may see if Grandma or Grandpa want to watch Kyle and the 3 of us may go see POTC3. DD keeps saying she really wants to see it so we may take her. DS really didn't want to go. He says the theaters are too loud for him and he doesn't like it. Since he is ill, it will give us the chance to go without him.
The Doc said as soon as school is out she is referring us to ENT specialist for both of them to have their tonsils and adenoids removed this summer. I think she is as tired of strep as we are. Hopefully, next year will be a better year for us.
geffric, sorry to hear DS got rained out before he got his project completed. But good for him that he keeps trying to finish it. Some would justvgive up.
Had a good rain here today. Still no bugs.
Lost our old ladies soccer game today 0-2. We were short players. I had to run the entire time. I am much too old for that.:rotfl2: I was poooped!!!!!!
Well, gonna run.
Mac, sent you a PM. Keeping you and your son in my prayers. I hope everything is OK.

Evening Everyone:thumbsup2

Well less than 36 hours until I leave for WDW and a visit with my daughter!!!:cool1: :cool1: I leave Monday early am and don't return until Thursday night. I will be staying at Pop Century - new one for me. Anyone stayed there before?

That time of the month has appeared and while mentally I am feeling much better I am now dealing with the physical issues - cramps cramps and more cramps:rotfl2: :rotfl2: Going to the doctor next month - hoping for a miracle cure:rolleyes1 :rolleyes1

Tiggern - I AM SO SORRY ABOUT THE STRIP:sad1: :sad1: Prior to this year (knock on wood) I used to get strep at least once a year. It is the WORST:sad1: :sad2: Hoping DS feels better faster. Back in the old days:laughing: they didn't jump to take tonsils out for strep....wish they did.

Geffric - sorry that the rain kept your scout from finishing. I just don't understand this weather.

Kristine - GOOD LUCK WITH YOUR INTERVIEW!! Sent you a PM.:yay:

Donna - Good luck with the June trip....no matter where you end up going hoping you have GREAT Weather.

Slo - Nothing seems to come easy these days. Hang in there - the store will be open before you know it.;)

Mac - Sent you a PM - good thoughts and wishes to you and your family.:grouphug: :grouphug:

Still no cicadas for us - wondering where they are:confused3 :rotfl:

Off to finish laundry:laundy:
