I crossed over to the darkside :darth: and left the EA  for Alamo.
I got the mid-size suv Chevy Equinox for $227 total for 14 days! :dancer:
What is this thing? Will I be able to get all the luggage in for myself and DW and 2 DD's? :rotfl2: I am concerned. We couldn't even think of getting into a PT last time. They wanted to but not a chance. We lucked out and go a Saturn Vue. It was perfect. Tell me anything and everything about it you can.

Thanks, YO

A vue and equinox are the 2 choices for mid-size SUV. We too, crossed over, and it was not that bad. We are paying $228 total for a 2 week rental for the mid-size SUV--we also took advantage of pre-pay. We just used Alamo last week for the first time and it didn't hurt too much--the wait time in line was only 10 minutes. Drop off is combined with the National drop off, so that part was familiar.

Looks like I'll end up with a Vue.

n2mm, thanks for the info, it sounds like we should be ok. I hope. :rolleyes1
What is the pre-pay option? Can I still add it on? I did my reservation on line and it never even asked for a credit card or anything. I just have the confirmation # page.

ohiomom, howdy from colorado, I was born in Tallmadge! I miss my cousins back there. Thanks for the website, too bad my worthless computer won't allow me to look at it :badpc:

Thanks, YO

I've also switched to Alamo. I've been a loyal customer to National for many years. But thier new web site and higher than normal prices drove me away. I got a 10 day rental for an Equinox for $155(that includes taxes and fees). I'm a little worried about my luggage fitting. We will have 3 big (25")suitcases and a stroller.
I'm also a little worried about long waits, but for $155 I can deal with a long wait.

If you click on prepay, and make your ressie, it is sometimes cheaper. Mine was so I went with that option. The only downside is if you need to cancel there is a $5 fee within 24 hours, $10 for a no show. Since I can't imagine the mid-size SUV dropping less than the $90 a week base rate I have, I took the chance and did prepay. Try is and see if you rate is lower, there is no obligation until you enter your cc. My daughter's rate was higher so we didn't use it for hers. There is only 2 of us, so I'm sure we will have plenty of room. Since we are flying on United we will take advantage of the resort checkin going home, so the luggage won't be an issue then.

We got a Pontiac Torrent when we reserved an Equinox, I think they are basically the same. I too had always used EA, but found Alamo fine. Unless you have a LOT of luggage, or a particularly bulky piece (like a wheelchair) you should be fine.

Thanks for the info that the VUE & EQUANOX are pretty much the same. If they have the same space in the back no problem.

deelam, no worries about space if they are the same, last time we had 3
LARGE  1 medium, mine of course :cool1: , 4 carryons :scared1: and 2 daypacks. :worried: That was after I made them condense things.
I never thought we'd fit it in anything. We left home in a suburban so they never worried about it. We fit into a VUE with no problems.

My back was killing me by the time I got home, I think I just figured out why :faint:

n2mm, thanks, I'm gonna try tonight for that other discount with the prepay.
Anything to save a buck :teeth:

I have a 2005 Equinox at home, not a bad car, my wife likes it a lot. It ride on a longer wheel base version of the Vue platform. Of course the Torrent is a rebadged Equinox. One thing about it I am not keen on in the 2005 Equinox, and it may be a concern to some of you, is the rear lugage space. There is a solid parcel shelf which can be adjusted to various heights, to do this, they moved the wheel wells in and put mounting spots on them for the shelf. This intrudes on the luggage space. The 2006 Torrent has this system also, however it was removed in the 2006 Equinox. The new shelf on the 2006 Equinox is wider and only mounts in one place. Due to this redesign you will find there to be a bit more usable luggage room in the Equinox than the Torrent. I recently went to the Auto show in my area and was able to check out both vehicles and saw the difference first hand. So if room is an issue the 2006 Equinox might be a little bit better.

Also, the Equinox/Torrent twins have one advantage over the Saturn. If you have small children you can move the seat forward making more luggage space in the rear. I believe the twins have about 5 cubic feet more room than the Saturn.

That is my 2 cents. :) Enjoy your trips.

wow those prices seem very good. I priced it out for 7 days at $163. I wish I could get that price of $228 for 2 weeks since we will be there for that amount of time.
May I ask where you got those prices from? Which codes did you use???
Thanks

I got a Chevy Equinox for 9 days for $116 including tax for my may trip because i got a coupon from Costco.

I found the walmart code works well 430710 (public code). I only used the $15 Alamo coupon since I didn't qualify for the others, that code is D42C. That gave me a good price, but using the prepaid option, plus the coupon gave me the $228 for 2 weeks.

I wonder if I booked for the $163 for 7 days and the costco coupon comes out and it is cheaper, can I cancell and rebook my reservation without penatly?

andychris14, I used the ent. codes to get my rates on it, I believe I used the $20 off code, not sure, I jsut have the whole book with me when I go & give them what they ask for. I think you can change reservations when you want up until you leave. I think it is 24 hrs. Just check on you reservation confirmation. Mine is not with me right now. If I find a better price I will book it and then cancel my other. That way I know I have what I want. Good luck with your search.

manticore, thanks for that info on the cars you are quite thorough (sp?)
I hope I get a newer one. :thumbsup2

Thanks, YO

We arrived on Tues. at 8 pm and proceeded to the Alamo counter. It was not too busy and it is beside the National counter. When we came up to the front of the line, a employee from the National counter called us over the that counter and said she could check us in.

We had reserved a midsize suv. We headed out to the garage and met an Alamo employee. We asked him to direct us to the midsize suv's. He told us where we could find them. I asked what kind of suv's they had. He told me what kind were considered midsize and he said that the regular suv's were in the same spot. He said if I were to take a large suv there wouldn't be a problem as they don't really distinguish between them when you go thru the gate to get out. So we took an Envoy and drove to the gate. No problem, we were told to have a great evening.

The aisle where the suv's are found just says "SUV" , doesn't have two different spots for the two sizes.
