Oh come on now. I'm not going to defend the statement made on this thread which was absolutely absurd. There's no excuse for that.

But you go WAY too far when you say that people who don't support you on your other thread are not decent people. Get some perspective. This is the problem with political discussions these days. Can you honestly not understand how someone could believe differently? Do you truly think those of us who don't support what you do are not decent people? Disagree with me. Disagree with me vehemently. But how dare you suggest that my position is less decent than yours.

While I see where you´re coming from and agree with most of it, there is no way I can say that a person who believes that he is morally superior to everyone else is a decent person.

They didn't know such mass extermination. they didn't know smallpox. They didn't know about 'owning' land and they didn't know they would be conned, bullied and forced into giving up everything they had. No one suggested that it was right but it was the way of the world 300 years ago. The typical approach of the left is to point to what took place 3 centuries ago and "see, isn't the US horrible?" I think you need to look beyond that and see the tremendous good that this country has done. 620,000 men died in the Civil War holding this country together and ridding the US of slavery. 420,000 Americans in WWI, At least the same in WWII. I think that is the history you need to focus on rather than what took place more than 300 years ago when we were a young a struggling country.

Question - just how are you defining morality? IRAN and the US share things like the death penalty. Guess we are not so moral are we?

PS - After 7 years of daily dis-ing (reading not posting), this is the scariest thing I have ever read.

Iran and the US both have the death penalty. American criminals are tried before a jury of their peers and when found guilty of capital felonies which usually involve horrendous crimes. John Tuohy is one such criminal that most on the Dis expressed delight at his death sentence. Many said it was "too good for him".Then they enter the appeals process and many eventually die of old age. In Iran women are stoned to death for being victims of rape. As Ahmedinahad said today, "there are no homosexuals in Iran". It is either because they have all been executed or they are in hiding because they are afraid they will be. His views are not reflective of the vast majority of Iranian, but they know the country they live in, they know the freedoms that they do not have and they are limited in how they can respond. So yes, we are far more moral than the government of Iran.

No, Dawn, you're the one who brought up ancient history. Your post made it sound like because it had been happening, that made it ok for the hostilities to continue. And today, because some children are not getting health care who need it, you would like to see that also continue. Neither is morally right, but then I suppose because I lean to the left, I'm not allowed to question morality.

Who are you to question anyone's morality? IMHO that job belongs only to my God {who may not be your God, if in fact you (plural - anyone who reads this) believe in one - generally speaking - not meant to be taken personally by anyone}.

I was responding to the poster who brought up "terrorists". I will repeat, if I need too. The United States is morally superior to the governments of Iran, Syria, China, Russia and I am sure that you could add to the list.
