Chef Mickey's Questions, Need Help

We are going to Disney in October and while airfare is making me sick, I am looking at the brighter side...
We want to do a character dining. We have done Animal Kingdon and the Liberty Tree Tavern but after hearing only good reviews, we are leaning towards Chef Mickey's. I have a very picky DH and my DD is no better.

Now for my questions...
1. Do you think this is a better choice over the 1900 Park Fare as far as picky eaters. We are doing dinner since breakfast is not a well liked meal for them.
2. We are renting a car and driving to the parks, so can we go to the MK and then hop the monorail to the Contempory just for dinner and then back to the MK or do we need to be staying in that resort?
3. Anyone recently visit Chef Mickey's and if so, what kind of things were on the menu (was there raviolis and what kind of meat on the carving board) and most of all.... who were the characters present?????

I think thats all for now. I appreciate all the help you DISers can offer, the more the better. It keeps my mind off of thinking about the airfare.

I'm afraid I'm not going to be terribly helpful here. It's been a little less than a year since I last went there. I can say though, that my entire family, including myself, are picky eaters, and I can't wait to go back...we're also vegetarian, so you can imagine the pressure there. The food was good...I remember salads, cheese ravioli, lots of different breads, mac and cheese, mashed potatoes, pizza and some different veggies...now I'm not helpful as far as what kind of meats were there, because well....I really wasn't paying that much attention there. Oh and I haven't been to 1900 Park Fare as of yet...but we do have a ADR for September and I'm a bit worried that we'll leave hungry, from what I've heard as far as selection there goes. As far as the monorail question, yes you can drive to the MK, take the monorail over to CR, eat and hop the monorail back to MK...do be aware though that the monorail back takes like 20 minutes or so. And the characters there were Mickey, Donald, Chip, Dale, Minnie and Goofy, though he didn't make the rounds, he was more of a stand around in the front of the restaurant and greet everyone kinda character. I hope that helps.

We love Chef Mickey's and will make it a part of our trip every time!!!! We haven't eaten at 1900 yet (will in October), so I can't compare. I do know that 1900 Park Fare is big for princess lovers!

As far as the menu, check it out at Allearsnet.com. They have menus for every restaurant in Disney. My oldest is an extremely pickey eater, and he loves Chef Mickey. They have "the best" mac and cheese! They have a lot of kid friendly foods, and an assortment of adult foods. I'm also a pickey eater, and have never left hungry.

Yes, you will have no problem hopping on the monorail to head over to the Contemporary. We've never stayed at the Contemporary (and probably never will), but always use the monorail.

Oh, and characters: I believe you'll find Mickey, Donald, Goofy, Chip and Dale. We've been twice, and have always seen all of them. I can't remember if Minnie is there, or not.

You can take the monorail from Magic Kingdom. In fact it is a great ride. The food is great even for the pickiest eaters.

We were at Chef Mickey's twice in January. Both times Donald was the greeter near the entrance.

Making the rounds in the restaurant were: Mickey, Minnie, Goofy, Chip, & Dale.

We parked our car right in the Contemporary parking lot while we had dinner.

Want to note that if you are driving you CANNOT park at the Magic Kingdom. Only Disney buses are allowed near the entrance. If you are staying at a Disney resort simply take the Magic Kingdom bus from your resort bus stop. It will drop you off near the main entrance. All other traffic must park at the TTC. From there you will likely need to tram to either the boat or monorail over to the Magic Kingdom. The parking lots at WDW are huge so trams are used to bring guests from their cars to either the park entrance, or for the MK to the boat and monorail. Disney buses will leave you closest to the park entrance at all the theme parks.

We go to Chef Mickey's every trip, and usually use this as our vacation "kick-off" meal. We have always had good food, great service, and very good character interaction. It can get a little hectic - a lot of excitement - but that's what we go to experience. I do have pictures of Daisy being there - but this was several years ago!

Just have to say as well that Chef Mickey's is our favorite. Our vacation starts for dinner and end with breakfast there. As for as picky eaters, there is such a varieity of foods to choose from, that you should not have a problem. In fact my DH looks forward to the chicken strips by the kids area. Nothing like paying $25 for chicken strips, but he looks forward to them and enjoys them. Enjoy!!!
