Here's the details:

Staying at All Star Movies. Breakfast at Chef Mickey’s at 8:30 AM. We’re taking a day where we’re not going to the theme parks, but plan on riding the monorails, seeing the deluxe resorts, going to Downtown Disney etc… We’re going during a very busy time of year when I expect them to watch parking carefully.
Here’s our options as I see them:
Drive to Contemporary, eat breakfast, ride the monorails (hope the car doesn’t get towed while we’re doing this) and then take the car to Downtown Disney.
Drive to TTC, take the monorail to CR, then go back after riding the monorails to the TTC and get the car for the ride over to Downtown Disney.
Take a bus to Magic Kingdom, walk to CR, and use Disney transportation all day long. Note that I said this will be a busy time of year so I anticipate long waits if we do that.
Or how would you do it differently?
Any suggestions are appreciated.

You are generally given a 3 hour window in which to eat at the resorts. This timeframe should be adequate to eat at Chef Mickeys and then take monorail around to see the other resorts.
Then when you get back to the CR, drive your car over to DTD.

Another option if you want to stay in the MK area a little longer - drive to the CR for breakfast, then take the car to the TTC main lot. This now gives you access to the monorail stations, and you won't have to go through the Toll Plaza a second time.

One recommended activity while you're there - rent a watercraft at one of the resort marinas. ("Boat" = transportation, so we're still on topic!) Being out on the Seven Seas Lagoon and Bay Lake can be great fun if the weather is nice. I believe the marinas open at 10, so with breakfast and whatever exploring you want to do, they should be open before you leave the area.

After this, you can leave your car at the TTC, or just drive to Downtown Disney.
