Looking for dinner buffet. We're happy with characters at either place, but strictly asking about the buffet itself - which has better variety for adults and kids to eat, better food?
thanks!

We have not been to Chef Mickey's but did not enjoy the food at 1900 Park Fare for dinner. Very bland and just not appetizing, except for the mashed potatoes. However, it was very good for breakfast.

We got back from WDW a couple of weeks ago and we went to both Chef Mickey's and 1900 PF. We enjoyed both places and they were very different. As far as characters go, we think we liked 1900 PF more mainly because all the characters were "face" characters that could talk to us and interact with us. That made it more fun. And the wicked stepmother and step sisters are rarely seen (I think). They were so funny and really stayed in character with us. Prince Charming was great too. He was really in character and asked me about all my "medals" (pin lanyard) and what adventrues I had been on today. I told him I went on Big Thunder Mountain 3 times in a row and he smiled and said that he thought he had heard some screams in that direction from the castle. It was great! Chef Mickey's was lots of fun too...but the Characters can't talk and don't seem to stay at the table as long.

As far as food goes...we liked Chef Mickey's better. There was just more all around that we liked. The salads were all excellent and the beef tips were yummy too. 1900 PF the food was just allright and there was less that we liked I guess. However, the desert bar at 1900 PF was definately the best. So, if you are desert person who likes hard to find face characters I would recommend 1900 PF. If you like the traditional fab five characters and like an all around good meal, I would recommend Chef Mickey's.

I would not recommend the Crystal Palace. That was my biggest dissapointment. Food choices were odd and dissapointing. Characters were cute (Pooh and friends) but they spent NO time at the tables at all. We could barely get a picture taken. Eeyore walked off on us while we were standing up for a picture. Very dissapointing. Only treat was taking a break during the meal to step out on the porch and watch Wishes.

Hope that helps.

Eric

We ate at both restaurants for dinner in October and liked them both, however we all enjoyed the food better at 1900 Park Fare. The kids buffets are about the same. They had pizza, chicken fingers, mac n cheese. The desserts were about the same too at both places. The main entrees at 1900 were a step up than what we had a Chef Mickeys which a much larger selection. If you go the Strawberry soup at 1900 Park Fare is a must.

We were at both restaurants last week. We preferred the 1900 Park Fare offerings over Chef Mickeys (if we had to choose), but both were wonderful.

Honestly, the biggest difference between the two places are atmopshere and characters. 1900 PF at the Grand Floridian with Cinderella, Prince Charming and the stepsisters has a much different feel to it than Chef Mickeys with the Fab 5 at the Contemporary. We did both and were so glad we did.....they were so totally different experiences and both lots of fun!!

Contrary to another poster above, I would also recommend Crystal Palace for dinner. That one was our favourite food-wise, the restaurant was lovely (and so convenient at MK), and the characters were great.

The character meals were a highlight of our trip. Enjoy whatever you choose!!

Chef Mickeys' is the best. My favorite! A must do every trip. Good food & fun:thumbsup2

1900 Park Fare has much better food and IMHO a much nicer atmosphere.

That being said Chef Mickey's is the best on property for character experience. It is a loud, raucous atmosphere which some folks prefer.

Me, I'm more of a relaxed, elegant, subdued atmosphere kind of guy.

And though you haven't mentioned it I should mention that Cape May Cafe at the Beach Club is the best character buffet of all. It is really a combination of all of the good qualities of both the Park Fare and Chef Mickey's. The only downside is that it is only a character breakfast. Dinner is strictly a character less buffet, though the food and atmosphere always bring us back for dinner.

As you can see... opinions vary as much as the offerings at either restaurant. Bottom line is you can't go wrong with either, but for me (age 55) I would have to say "1900 Park Fare", even though "The Contemporary Resort" is like my second-home.
