We're not doing a whole lot of character dining (partly because our trip is fairly short notice, and also because we don't want to waste a ton of time at sit-down meals).. however, I booked Chef Mickey's at 11am and I'm wondering if it's worth it. We'll be at MK the afternoon before (3/1) and will make RD at MK on 3/2, then we'd have to zip over to breakfast after maybe an hour and a half of touring. We're also doing another MK day, 3/4.

My kids are 7, 5, 2, and 9 months. I wouldn't consider leaving the park to get to an ADR except that it's MK to the Contemporary.. that should just be a few minutes walk, right? Will it take us forever to get back into the park? Or should we not bother and go back to the hotel for some swimming, then return to MK around 3pm? Or should we just skip the breakfast?

Thanks!

I'm not wo sure about walking, but you could easily take the monorail to the Contemporary.

When going from the Magic Kingdom to the Contemporary you can take the Resort Monorail which is no more then 1 minute ride or use the walkway which takes about 10 minutes to walk.

When going back to the Magic Kingdom it's actually faster to walk there because when taking the Resort Monorail it will stop at the TTC, Polynesian and Grand Floridian before it arrives at the Magic Kingdom.

You're right, we'd probably take the monorail there and maybe walk back (my kids might insist on riding the monorail again). I'm still trying to decide whether it will be worth it to interrupt our touring to make this. Any thoughts on what an 11am seating will be like? Will the character interactions be as rushed as early in the morning or at dinner?

I like the idea of this working as an early lunch. Is there a noticeable difference in wait times on rides from 12-1 vs 11-12 or 1-2? Is there really a lunch rush and does it affect ride wait times?

Thanks!

You're welcome and from what I heard the character internations with late ADR's are great because there are less tables.

As for the wait times for the attractions depends on the time of year, if the Magic Kingdom had AM Extra Magic Hour that morning and etc. Now the popular attractions like Splash Mountain, Space Moutain, Big Thunder Mountain and even Buzz Lightyear Space Ranger Spin could have waits of 40 minutes or more around those times, although they also have Fast Passes.
