Cheerleaders OH NO!

Just read a thread that the National Cheerleading Championships are the exact days we were planning a quiet post 4 day Wonder trip to Disney (Feb 9-12 2006). Can anybody tell me how much of a horror story this is going to be! Ugh - we might have to change our dates. Any replies would be greatly appreciated!

i was just reading a thread about this. I guess from what ive read it depends where youstay. once you are in the parks its fine but at the resort it gets annoying hearing them practice outside in the morning and on the busses, food courts ect. ALot of them stay at the all stars and CBR and POR. Again , this is from what ive read. i havnt experianced it first hand so I couldnt tell you if its even that bad.

OK, this is only my opinion and I don't want to offend anyone (famous last words BUT if you are looking for a quiet, relaxing time--the cheerleaders could present a challenge. We went in Feb. 2004 and were AMAZED at the crowds of cheerleaders at every park we went to. No where seemed to be safe from all of their enthusiasm.

Our hotel--Yacht Club--was quiet, but it was the only place.

You'll have a great time either way, just be prepared!!

We stayed at the Contemporary a few years ago during a competition. We had no problems at all in the parks but the walls in the Contemporary Wings must be made of paper because it was extremely loud throughout the night. We're talking past midnight. The kids weren't being obnoxious or anything but anytime you get that many girls together talking, giggling, laughing can be very noisy.

We stayed at CBR in Feb 2004 and we were unaware of any cheerleaders. There were none at the POFQ in Feb 2005. The only time we encountered any was at the airport in NY (2 squads on the plane - they slept the whole flight) and at MGM where the competition is usually held (on the stage where the Indiana Jones show ususally is). We are going back the same time this year.

At our All-Star Music in March 2002 their were cheerleaders. As two twentysomethings with no kids, it was really annoying (and probably led to our "never again at an all-star vow"). But as someone else had mentioned, it was mostly noticeable at hotels. I barely noticed them at the parks.

I don't think it affects the parks too much. I would avoid the resorts they stay at like the plague though! I've read stories on these boards of people being woken up at 6 am by sounds of cheering in the hallways, cheering on the buses, etc. I don't think any of that is condusive to "relaxing".

I was there for this a few years ago the only time I ever noticed they was there was at the resort ASSports I had a ground floor room on the football field and they was a bit noisy doing their practicing. It was not a big problem tho, they started about 8 am we was already up or gettin up to get started for the day. Afternoon breaks it varied as to how much noise most of the teams seemed to be in the park during afternoon tho. A couple of evenings we did hear them for a short while after we got back to the room but all was quiet by the time we was ready for bed.

My family and I recently had our first "cheerleader experience", though not at Disney. We decided to try a non-Disney area, and had our first stay in the Pigeon Forge/Smokey Mountain area.

Last tuesday evening we had supper at the Apple Barn, a local restaurant recommended by several on the Disboards. We had just had our starters when a group of about 30 cheerleaders were seated in out area. From the moment they sat down to the time we were moved to a different area of the restaurant ( at our request ) the three of us could not carry on a conversation at our table. I also noticed that several other tables left with more than what I would consider to be more than the normal amount of "to-go" containers, say 6 ~ 8.

I'm sure that individually they may be sweet young ladies, but as a group we found the "group" must either be rude, uncarring, or partially deaf. I also (assume) that there may have been a adult/coach/whatever with them, but that person must have been equally uncarring or deaf as nothing was said to them as a group and no reduction in the noise level was noticed during out time with them.

They definitely seemed to live "down" to their reputation.

In Dec '03, dd and I stayed in AllStarMusic. The cheerleaders/dance teams/Pop Warner boys were all there!!! Yes, they were in evidence around the resort. Yes, the girls were practicing dance routines or cheers in the 'common' areas. But, they were very seldom an issue in the parks. Yes, sometimes they got a little exuberant on the buses, but I rode with regular families that had several teen girls with them and they were noisier than the cheerleaders!!! I wouldn't hesitate to go at the same time as the kids. For the most part they were polite and well-behaved. Or maybe we just lucked out!

We had the unfortunate experience of staying on grounds while the competitions were going on and I NEVER want to experience it again!! Loud, rude and obnoxious. Unfortunately a few bad apples can make the entire group look bad.

I've been to the world WITH my daughter, as a cheerleader for a national championship. We stayed at ASSp. Yes, the kids do practice, but understand that MOST of the resort is cheerleaders. You can easily check this out before making your reservations. Not that I think being loud and obnoxious is OK, cause it's not. Our kids never were out too early or up too late. They had a curfew. We never had much time to go the parks. They competed at Indiana Jones one afternoon, then at WWS the rest of the time. We managed a couple of hours at MK one day. The competition participants are invited to MGM on night for a private party. Just do your homework and find out where the groups are staying (all kinds of groups) and make other plans.
BTW, why is it when people talk about cheerleaders, they assume they're all girls.

The cheerleading championships were taking place when we stayed at CSR in Feb 2004

There were one or two cheerleaders, with parents, staying at the resort and we made a special trip to watch them perform at MGM.


Okay, MGM was pretty crowded following the competition but they didn't upset our trip at all

DD (6) was so excited to watch them and DS (17) loved the photos when we got home....

I love when someone starts a new thread on cheer leaders. Our experiences with these groups have been quite bad. They feel that they have to cheer and dance EVERYWHERE! At the bus stops, ON the buses.{you should hear how that sounds in an enclosed bus. Earplugs a must!} At the resorts, in restaurants, in DTD, at the theme parks, on the monorail {another ear plug spot} It's as if they do not understand that not every single person visiting WDW likes this stuff! And for some reason, the "chaparones" cannot, or will not, keep them in line. In line?, I almost forgot, thay like to have one person stand on line at a ride, and when the rest of the group of 10 or 15 shows up, they try to get on line with that one person! They tried that in front of us once......once! Sorry if I have offended anyone, but these have been our actual experiences at WDW during cheering times.

I am a cheerleading Mom, and have been to WDW and many other places with my daughter's cheerleading squads (both AllStar and Pop Warner). I am going to try to not say too much in this reply but I will agree that there are some cheerleading squads/parents who are very loud and discourteous, and I am usually very embarrassed when I encounter them. Please do not judge all by the few. Our squads always had a curfew (stringently kept to by parents and coaches) and never had a practice before 8 am, and most were held as far away from the general public as possible. That said, the value resorts can definitely seem to be overrun by cheerleaders, so be aware that cheerleaders of all ages may surround you at times.

My daughter is an awesome athlete and will stand up for herself and her team's athletic abilities. I feel very fortunate to have a great kid and to have found great cheerleading programs that teach not only cheerleading, but confidence in one's abilities, courteousness to not only their own team members but to other teams as well, and respect for all. These kids work very hard in order to compete, and when they show respect for others, deserve some respect of their own.

I hope you have a good experience and meet some squads like my daughter's squads............You won't have a problem at all!!

I agree~!! My DD is an allstar cheerleader and we compete all over but ALLOT in Orlando!! There just happens to be allot of cheer competition company's that use florida for their competitions.

Maybe next time you see a squad practicing in the common area give them a chance and watch these "athletes" show their stuff!!!

My daughter now cheers for JAG Cheer out of Woburn, Mass. We are from Billerica, Mass. and she used to cheer for Billerica Pop Warner but is now "too old." Last April, we were in Panama City Florida. JAG is planning on an Orlando trip this winter; hope it comes true!

The cheerleaders were the single most unenjoyable part of my last trip (March 05) We stayed at CBR and they were not in our "island" but they were all over the place. Mayed the buses a real pain in the neck, and getting breakfast in the morning was impossible.

My DH took his grown handicapped brother to WDW a couple of years ago and happened to be there during a cheerleading convention. They loved it! They didn't mind at all looking at yound girls in cheerleading outfits! I guess it depends on who you are! His brother talked about the cheerleaders as much as Disney.
