Checking on room assignment before you arrive

Does anyone have the address to check on your hotel building assignment before you arrive? I thought I read somewhere (probably here) that you can enter your Res # and see where they have placed you. I was interested to see what Poly longhouse they have us staying at. I know they do not give out room assignments early but I thought there was a way to check and see what type of room they have you slotted for.
Thanks for all of the info.

You will not be told of your room assignment until after you have physically checked in, and when your room is ready. It might not even be assigned until hours after check in, though they will give you your room keys upon check in. They will give you a # to call to see if your room is ready in that case, and what # that room is.

Just make sure you try to request the longhouse you'd like or an area you'd like. It doesn't mean you'll get it, but it doesn't hurt to try.

Resorts don't give out room assignments until the actual room is available for occupancy.

So many things can change, mostly maintenance related, but also if the person occupying that room hasn't left yet, it is taking some time for cleaning (like the villas take longer to clean), etc.

You will never know your actual room until the card is activated with that room number.

However at check-in, they will tell you what general area you are in.

Don't forget they also started this new program where they will send you a text message once your room is ready.

Do you have to ask for the text or do they just text it to the number you give as your number while traveling?

When you check-in, you will be asked whether you want a text message or a phone call.

Make sure you answer the phone call, because it goes through a central switch. It happened to me last year. We didn't get our room until extremely late in the day and I was on the phone trying to change our ADR, when they called.

I tried just call back the number, and it was a central switch that sent me to another department. It is similar where I work, where we are a large company and all calls goes through a central switching station.

I suggest that you ask for a text message.

Thanks. I'll ask for a text.

I have heard of people saying they got a text while in the airport or on their drive to WDW. I'd love for that to happen.

I would doubt that because they don't actually "give" you the room until you offically check-in. They don't know you are going to physically check-in until you actually do - so they would hold your room "open" until you present yourself at the desk for check-in.

How would they know you are going to show up?

I don't know how they would get the info before unless they did online check-in, maybe??? Who knows???

They have the information about what time you are checking in from the online check-in, but until you have physically shown up at the desk, there is only a "hold" on your room.

Whether you do online check-in or not doesn't indicate that you are definately showing up or not - it is just that you opt to do regular check-in when you get there.

Case in point, I NEVER do online check-in for two reasons - one is I arrive on the third most busiest check-out day of the entire year. Rather than doing online check in and indicating a check-in time of 10:15 am, which is when I usually get there - I opt out of it. I would rather have my room later in the day, per my request, then the first available room.

Secondly, I often travel with a few friends, so we have multiple credit cards. I don't want to load my card on online check-in, and then have to redo everything to re-load all three or four cards at check-in day. It just isn't practical for me or the resort.

Common sense would tell you that online check-in does not guarantee that you are going to show up and doing regular check-in does not indicate that you might not show up at all.

I do remember that the Poly was trying this out, but I think it was at least a year ago. Unfortunately, it's not something that's available anymore.

Just curious....what is the third most busy check-out day, and the first 2 for that matter? Does that help you in getting what you request?

I too wondered what makes not checking in online better? Please explain further. Just want to know since this will be my first trip. Thanks!

I checked in online today. For us, its not a big deal. We get standard view and actually hope for the side of the building that faces the parking lot, and on the first floor. since we bring a car it's nice going out in the morning and having the car right there.

Usually our room is ready when we get there in the morning so we go do a quick unpacking and get partially settled in so when we return from our full day at MK (always our first park) we can just go change and relax. I usually get up early the next day and finish settling in while hubby and son sleep.
