Hello all,

got a bit of time to check in. We have today and Sunday left on our trip. Thus far up to about 2200 pics and I haven't hit DTD (will be going there shortly) and MGM yet. MGM tomorrow with plans to meet up with Amy and Barrie for EMH.

I do have some bad news to report on the equipment front. Less than 3 minutes after walking into Port Orleans: Riverside my D50 with the 18-135 lens attached fell about 2 1/2 feet onto the ceramic tile floor of the lobby. OUCH!!! Initially it seemed as those the only damage was to the lens hood. That was on Monday. I used the lens all day Tues at MK and Wed at AK (though I was switching between this lens and the 70-300VR). Thursday I also used it and got some real nice shots of Holiday Wishes and some characters. Yesturday (Friday) I used it a bit in the morning, then switched to the Sigma 30mm f/1.4 when we went into the Living Seas area. Let me backtrack a bit, I did start to notice the front of the lens looked a bit off, like possible something not right. Well disaster. We went to leave the store at Living Sea's and while DS was buying himself a Crush toy I went to change lenses and as I pulled the 18-135 out of my pouch, the front of the lens fell off onto the floor. Luckily the floor has a rug so no further damage, but the lens will have to be sent in for repair.

Luckily I brought along my backup 18-70mm lens which I will be using today and tomorrow.

The Sigma 30mm f/1.4 has gotten a HUGE workout and thus far is performing like a champ. Its nice to keep it at ISO 1600 and f/1.4 or so and get some nice night shots. This is highly recommended when toting children along and it is at night and there is NO time to set up a tripod. Especially when DW is pushing 1 stroller and Dsis is pushing the other and no one was to stop for "More Pictures". Shoot on the run.

Anyway, my computer is slower than a turtle moving in glue so I don't have any pics uploaded (plus right now I'm on my brother in laws computer). I have put most of my pics on both the laptop HD and the external HD.

Oh, on a side note I was able to run into AndrewWG and his DD on Monday night and also had a chance encounter with Steve's Girl. We passed each other just outside the Buzz ride. She recognized me from my pictures here and we got a chance to talk briefly.

We're back home on Monday afternoon/evening. I've converted only about 100 pics thus far to JPEG so I'll post pictures throughout next week as they are ready. I do have a lot that need white balance adjusting.

I'll be doing a full trip report and I'll also do a photography report too.

Ok time to hit DTD, DS wants to see the Lego Store.

Have a great weekend.

sorry about your lens. glad you are having a good time though.

can't wait to see your pics.

So sorry to hear about your lens. That must've been a shock:eek: Good thing you brought your sturdy 30:thumbsup2 Sounds like you and your family are having a wonderful trip. Looking forward to your pics. :santa:

Looking forward to seeing some pics- especially from the 30/1.4- I'm still thinking about getting one of those.

Is it insured?

I hope that is the worst of your trip.

highs near 80 and a low in the 60's there tonight? We have freezing rain here now! I hope it is that nice in 11 days!

MIkeeee

Hope you and your family are having a great time. Sorry to hear about your lense. I'm looking forward to seeing your pictures and reading your trip report.

yikes about the lens but guessing the photos are ok? have fun the rest of the trip

Dude, I think you should hop on a plane and get home right away to get the lens fixed! Well, then again the high was 30 degrees today. Maybe you should stick with the 30mm lens and stay an extra week!

I hope the lens gets fixed quickly upon your return and that you are having a good time! Tell Thomas that Elizabeth says "hi"!

Yes I second that from Andrew. YOu may want to stay longer since right now it is lightly snowing and it is going to turn to rain. Maybe stay snow at your house. Not sure. We are also due for HIgh winds. Sounds like a good reason to me. :)

We came home to 30's last night after being in 80 degrees at Epcot all afternoon. There's nothing like returning to cold weather to remind you that you left Fantasyland behind! ;)
Can't complain though, the flight was on time and our weather was clear.

Here's hoping everyone else's travel goes as well!

We're at the airport now. Flight is delayed about 30 minutes so far. Though Dsis and her husbands flight to Newark is delayed 2 hours!

Some time this week before I send the lens to Nikon I'll take a picture of it. Just looks like the front element fell off. Its a pretty big piece. It looks like it might just screw back in, but it actually doesn't. The glass is fine and it is still under warrantee (sp? I hate spelling). I get a chance while we're waiting I'll upload a few pics to flickr.

Not looking forward to getting back to Boston. Taked to my mother yesturday and they got some snow on the Cape. We usually get more than they get. I haven't worn a jacket all week. The weather has been MUCH hotter that I expected. 2 years ago it was a lot cooler. Hotest day then was high 70's low 80's. I think this week it got below 70 once.

OK here are a few I have converted so far:

Snowman at AK in the Dinoland area:

Tree in the lobby of Port Orleans: Riverside

Mickey in the Jingle Jungle Parade at AK:

and The Christmas tree at the enterance of AK. This was with the "broken" lens. 4 second exposure I think. I'll check EXIF data later.

These are right out of the camera. The screen on the laptop isn't the greatest so I don't really know what if any PP I'll need to do. I'll be working on doing that over the next few weeks.

I'll post more as I get more ready.

Nice shots, Kyle; know you had a blast at The World, despite the lens mishap. I felt like a clown in a juggling act most of the time in July, swapping back and forth between those same two lenses. How I managed to keep one or both from hitting the concrete, I'll never know.

Looking forward to seeing your stuff when you get back.

Man, it seems like everyone really was there in the past week or two! Running into someone randomly (as with Steve's Girl) like that seems almost impossible in somewhere as big as WDW, I guess it really is a small world after all. :)

As with the others, I'm looking forward to seeing your shots!

For weather - I think my folks are arriving (driving) back into town tonight - they're coming from Cape Coral, where it's pretty much perfect (or better!) every day, and we're in the midst of a real snow storm here, with whiteouts and cars sliding all over the road. He was down there for a good month or so, though, so I don't have much sympathy. :teeth:

Nice shots Kyle. I never did get a shot of that snowman in Dino-Land. I looked at it a bunch of times, but just never did take a pic. That is right about where we stood to watch the street performance of Smear, Splat and Dip. Did you catch that show?

We did catch that show Andy. Those guys were pretty good. Lots of fun. I didn't get much pics of them as we were way on the side and I had a bad angle. We weren't planning on watching them, but with the restroom a gift shop and the EMH wristband line right there it worked out to catch them.

I need to start transfering the rest of my pics off the SD cards and onto the hard drives. I think I'm having problems with my 2.0 USB hub. The HD that stayed home is now getting some weird error report and the portable HD isn't being recognized. Both work on the 1.1 USB port. I'll have to try it out on the other computers.

This is going to be fun. I still haven't taken a pic of the broken lens. Oh so many things to do.

Thanks for the wonderful shots - we have been going for 27 years to Disney and all I have ever seen is the Easter Bunny - and not very often.

Thanks for showing me Christmas in the World!!

Ah, snowing here - around 10 inches so far - - blowing like crazy - 20 degrees - really anxious to see the EB at Disney - - only 3 1/2 more months!
