The text entry isn't working for me the way it normally does... I usually get the immediate reply that I'm entered and still haven't received that reply today. hmmmm....
I read your comment, and my first thought was, what a great idea. My second thought was, OMG, no, she will not get separated from me. I'm too controlling and paranoid.
lol Well I say the same thing about my daughter. She will only be 6 and a half when we go this fall. BUT I think having my cell # on her lanyard JUST in case is a very good idea.
It is a very good and smart idea. I'm more concerned about my 3 year old (who will be 4 when we go) running off. We were walking back to our house after a birthday party last weekend, and they both took off running down the sidewalk. My daughter stopped, turned and saw that I was getting mad, and came back. He didn't. My fear is that he would just keep going past our house and around the corner, but he went into our driveway. I still put them both in timeout and explained after that I don't like them doing that because if they did something like that at DL, they could get lost.
We always make sure our boys (4 and 7) have our cell phone numbers somewhere on them in case they get separated from us. I can't be 100% sure that they would walk up to a cast member and ask for help like we've told them to do. I can picture them getting separated from us and riding the rides alone all day long! LOL! Last year, in the rush to get to Toy Story Mania when the park opened, I lined up to get our Fastpasses while DH took the boys to the stand-by line. My then 3-year old decided he wasn't going to wait in line and took off on DH so with the huge crowd he was lost for a minute or two. Scary!
DH is military so he had the idea to get dogtags made for each boy with their names and both of our cell phone numbers on them. Sometimes they don't like to wear them around their necks so we just loop them around a belt loop and put them in their pockets. I feel better knowing that they have something on them with our phone numbers in case we get separated. We used to put a piece of masking tape with our phone numbers written on it on their shirts, right under their arms, but I had to re-do them every day and remember to take the tape off before washing the shirts (something I wasn't good at).
I've been reading all these great ideas about putting your phone number on your kids, and in the back of my mind I was wondering why I hadn't been worried about this before, and it's because the last time we went we had our double stroller with us (lovingly called the battle stroller), so we had Jason in the stroller most of the time, and Delaney could sit when she wanted to. My MIL was with us, so we had 3 adults to keep track of 2 kids.
I think even though the kids will be 8 and 4 when we go, I want to take the battle stroller with us. Plus, pushing it with their weight is really good exercise!
I will be putting our phone numbers on the kids though. What a smart idea.
It is my understanding that while you can put your number on your kids (and we do those little bracelet thingys) the CMs who find the missing child DO NOT call the parents. And parents looking for children are directed to the place where lost kids are kept until parents come to get them. We always tell our kids that they need to find somebody with the Disney nametag behind a counter if they get lost and that they will bring them to a place for mom and dad to find them.

question? i know u can only enter once a day per person..so i have been entering on the website with my email...me and fiance share a cell phone since he has a work cell he can use, the cell phone is technically in his name the bill comes to him even tho im the one to mostly use it, i have texted "disneyday" a few times from our cell figuring i would be entering for my fiance..im pretty sure i have that cell phone # down as my number under my info at disney...am i disqualifying myself by having that number under my info or does it go off of the cell phones address cause we do have seperate home addresses...i figured if we got a call from ventura on the cell that we won i would let him claim that and if i receive a email under my email that i will claim that one...do u think its ok 2 enter like this since we have different home addresses but i have the number under my info??![]()
@surfergirl, I know what you mean!
I pretty frequently get phonecalls from some debt collector looking for some guy that I've never heard of (It's damn annoying, I tell them I don't who it is they're looking for and they keep calling), and they usually call from different numbers, to the point that I usually just don't answer the phone if the call is from a number I don't recognize. They've called twice this week, and with this contest I've been paranoid that it's Disney calling to say that I won, so I've answered. No such luck, though.
Anybody who's won via texting and gotten a phonecall, can you say what the area code was that the call came from?
