Cheapest way to upgrade to annual pass

At Six Flags New England you can upgrade to an annual pass as soon as you use your ticket to walk through the gate or before you leave for the day. They deduct the price you pay that day from the pass price. I think this is a gimmick to get more money out of you since if you really wanted an annual pass you would have bought one to begin with. Maybe Disney is using this type of 'marketing' skill to get you to buy more ticket time. Use the water park option first since they are not on the same price scale as the parks.

Here is information about the WDW ticket policy regarding upgrades.

This is from a thread on the DIS Theme Parks Forum with lots information about tickets in general. http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?p=18654362 The upgrade to an AP info is in post #7.

Basically, if you have an unused discounted MYW pass and use it for the upgrade, you will be credited the price of the ticket when it was sold to the discounter. If the ticket has been used, it will be credited at the current undiscounted rate on that day. If you have an unused MYW from a WDW package reservation, you will get credit for the full gate value of the ticket - used or not.

In some cases, there may be little remaining "value" for the MYW pass since they are heavily front weighted with the first days of use being valued much higher than the last days on the pass.

I'm confused now. I thought that if you have a ticket, that you should use one day on it so that you would get the current value of the ticket - not the amount you paid for it. :confused3 I bought a ten-day pass last summer (didn't use it) and plan on upgrading it to an AP this summer. Can someone please confirm if it's the best deal to use it first, or not? TIA :goodvibes

Did you get your answer? I believe that you should use the ticket first so it comes up to current value. See the links Webmaster Doc put out there.

Also, when are you going in Summer? Is it before July 31st? There is a discount card for 10% off if a new AP is bought prior to July 31st. This can be used with for the Florida AP and Dvc AP as well as the usual APs!

My understanding and (this makes sense) is that if you bought a MYW ticket from a discounter you need to use the ticket once (go through the turnstyle) and then upgrade. By using the ticket once you bring the ticket up to current gate prices. This is best way to get full credit for the ticket (even if you didn't pay full price). That is the policy and that is what should happen.

I think the earlier post had it backwards. Because she said it would be better to use the ticket but then said it would mean that you would get the lower cost. You should definitely use the ticket first. (But not at the water parks because that would mean you have to upgrade to a Premium AP)

Webmaster Doc gave you the best links for this information. Any information from Cheshire Figment is usually trustworthy because she is a Ticket/GR type of CM and understands the ins and outs. :thumbsup2 Also ROBO knows a great deal abouth the ticket upgrades as well.

Good luck, Not sure if you have to buy the AP premium, but I believe if you don't use your water park on that pass then you can just upgrade to regular AP with DVC discount. Good Luck.

Hi my husband and I have a question re upgrading tickets to annual passes with DVC. We are going in Oct for 11 nites. My sister has 2 10 day myw park hopper with water park and more passes (she had to cancel her trip last Sept. .) She will sell them to us for $20 less than what she paid last year. We were going to buy tickets thru Undercover Tourist without the water park feature even though we do intend on spending 1 day at Typhoon Lagoon. We go to wdw easily once a year and even if we can swing the cruise next year---keep hoping:thumbsup2--- would spend 2 days at the parks. So we think upgrading to annual passes would be a good idea. So how does upgrading to the annual pass work? Can we still get DVC discount? We never considered getting the premium annual pass as we do not always make the water parks. Therefore, can anyone tell me our best bet for getting the best value for our money and minimizing the extra money to upgrade ? Also just to double check that the water park feature does not count as one of the 10 days? Thank you!!!

From what I understand if your tix are hopper plus waterpark you have to buy premium if you want to upgrade to a pass.

Lots of people have discount cards to give away. This is a WinWin situation where you get to get up to 6 AP's on this one card at 10% off and the person who is giving you the card gets $25 for every AP you buy.

Hope this helps! 10 % is significant!

Be sure to go to the first page and read what Chesire Figment wrote about the deal. Hope this helps!

Can anyone else confirm if this is true? Thank you Debbie B for this info. We definately do not want the premium pass as we are only looking to go to the water park once possibly an additional time on next trip. We also do not need the other features. We certainly could do without that additional expense.
This is absolutely true. If you use any WPF&M admissions on a MYW ticket, it cannot be upgraded to an annual pass. It must be upgraded to the premium annual pass.

If you have the WPF&M option on your ticket, but only use the ticket at theme parks, you can still upgrade to the annual pass.

The previous advise on using the ticket first is true. An unused ticket will be treated as an exchange. Disney will only give you credit for what they were paid for the ticket. (If you bought it from a discount ticket broker, that means you'll get less than what you paid for it, because that ticket broker made some profit on top of what they paid Disney for the ticket.)

If the ticket is used, the transaction is treated as an upgrade instead of an exchange. An interim step is performed that brings your ticket to it's full gate price value before it is exchanged.

Sounds backwards, but those are Disney's rules. So take the ticket through the turnstile, and do the AP upgrade at the Guest Relations window inside the park.

I just upgraded my granddaughter from her Fl Resident, MYW 4 day, one park, status to a Fl Resident Seasonal pass and it only cost me $80 since she used it. They gave me the credit for the whole amount I originally paid and she had used it for three days already. I did note that the date was the date I bought the MYW ticket in the first place.

I have tickets that we got in a package from our trip in March where we did the buy 4 days get 3 free option. We did not use the tickets as we still had valid AP's and figured we'd use the MYW passes on our trip later this month. Now my husband wants to upgrade our tickets to AP's instead. Will we get credit for a 7 day MYW hopper or a 4 day MYW hopper as we really only paid for 4 days with how the promotion was setup?

You are correct. Use your old ticket for at least a day. Then upgrade to an AP. You will be credited the current price of a ten-day pass rather than what you paid.
