Can anyone tell me where to get the cheapest pointe shoes? They aren't for wearing but rather are for decoration. I would like them to be real pointe shoes though. I called our Capezio store and they said their cheapest is $55. I also found some on websites for about $40 but then there is $11 shipping. Any suggestions?

I have some extremely used pointe shoes you could have for the cost of shipping (I was actually thinking this morning that I need to get them out of the closet). They aren't pretty as new ones but if you plan to paint them or something else crafty, they might do. If you are interested, let me know.

I know the gift shop at the Colorado Ballet in Denver was selling used shoes for cheap. It was really cool as it had a note as to which dancer actually wore the shoes.

Ebay has an auction up for demi-pointe shoes by Sansha, only $20.

Demi-pointe shoes look almost identical to pointe shoes; the difference is the toe box is not as stiff as a regular pointe shoe as the demi is designed for the beginner or pre-pointe student. My daughter wore them for two years. They're always cheaper than regular pointe shoes.

Also understand that pointe shoes do NOT come with ribbons attached. Some shoes will come with a length of ribbon for the owner to sew on; others don't come with ribbon at all and you have to purchase it separately. Placement of the ribbons is purely based on the dancer's foot and preference which is why they are not pre-attached.
