Cheap vs. expensive sunglasses

I bought a couple pair of Ray Bans right out of high school, early 80's. I still have both pair and they are fantastic. Ray Ban has replaced them several times (free) when I've broken them. I would never wear cheap sunglasses. You can tell a difference. My best friend always wore Ray Bans too until the last few years. Now she wears Maui Jims and says they are even better glasses. I guess I'll never know unless I lose my Ray Bans, because I'd never give them up otherwise.

Exensive - all the way - mine are my prescription! :lmao:

Same here. Though I'm sure choosing the Ralph Lauren and the Dolce & Gabana frames helps some too. :cool2: But I'm getting at least a year out of them, might as well have frames I love.

I always lose my expensive sunglass. I can always find the ones I spent $3.00 on at Target though.
thats me. the one pair of Oakleys I owned are sitting at the bottom of the illinois river, a casualty to the party gods during a float trip in college:lmao: my 5.00 walmart glasses, however have lasted me nearly 10 years. I couldnt lose those if I tried apparently

I had a pair of burbury (spelling?) that I got from the lost and found at my last job. (Before anyone gets their undies in a twist, they'd been there for 3 months! Owner obviously not coming back for them...) Anyway, back tot he point. I had them for over a year and didn't lose them until recently. A true RECORD for me. (ALWAYS lose my sunglasses) I think because they were not something I could easily replace I kept up with them better.

Were they better? Vision-wise.....a little. Durability.....MUCH better! These things *lived* in my purse with no case. Scratched up against my keys CONSTANTLY. Dropped them numerous times. (usually on concrete...:rolleyes1) NO SCRATCHES in the year and a half I had them!!! And no misalignments or lose screws or any other problems either. (I loved them so much I refused to let anyone try them on....my family members all have bigger heads than I do! LOL!)

I really need to find them. I know they are in my house or car SOMEWHERE but I don't know where.....:sad1:

I cant use cheap glasses. I hate the flimsy feeling and the distortion I get from the cheap plastic.

I wear Rayban polarized.. had them about 3 yrs.. got on sale for prob 120 ish. Owned the exact same pair before that lasted about 4 yrs to my lil angel decided to twist an arm off.
I cant live without polarized even wear on gloomy days. Its amazing how it cuts through glarea and shadows.

It is time to for a new pair soon. They have been dropped recently and scratched up. I plan on getting the same style and brand. I keep looking for something a tad more updated and keep coming back to my old ones.

Maui Jims are amazing glasses btw!

I'm still on the same pair of polarized Revo that I bought in 1998. I'm sure they aren't "in style" anymore, but I don't care. They fit nicely and work great.

Maui Jim sunglasses are the best glasses I've ever had on my nose. I've been wearing them for about 20 years and I will never, ever wear anything else. I just wish I could get them in prescription lenses.

They're worth every penny. I've had several pairs....the company will repair the frames if they break.....I just love them.

I agree with you about Maui Jims. I thought it was all hype till I tried out a pair on the beach. They are absolutely amazing glasses and all I will wear now.

:thumbsup2

I'd kill for a pair of Coach Sunglasses though...I just can't bring myself to pay that much for a pair. Maybe if I get extra money, I'll splurge but right now I'll stick to the cheapies![/QUOTE]

I am lucky I work for an eye doctor! Wholesale price for me:woohoo: Coach suns are not polorized lenses. They just have really cute frames, I have too many to count but I rx them with polorized lenses with a backside anti-reflective to cut even more glare.

I'm kind of a sunglass snob - I love Oakleys, Bolle and I found a great deal on a pair of Salt Optics. They were almost $400 ( i paid a lot less at a close out). The difference between them and even oakleys are amazing! If you want a good pair and are reluctant to spend too much - check out Overstock.com or Sierra trading post .com

It depends on your eyes. Any sunglasses with polycarb lenses give me a headache. I have to wear ones with glass lenses, which are usually a lot more expensive. I use to buy the cheapos from Costco to use on my boats but the saltwater annihilated them by the end of the boating season. Now I have a pair of Kaenons, a pair of Costas, and pair of Maui Jims and I love all three.

I'm so insanely jealous right now!!!!

Can't spend a ridiculous amount on glasses...just can't. $15 would be about the most...... I'm not responsible enough...lol

I've also noticed that Target's sunglasses seriously give me a headache. I've bought some cheap ones from Kohls and they are fine but Target's kill me. I also have a pair of Fossils that cost around $50 and they are better made than the cheaper ones but the Ray Bans are in a league of their own...I LOVE them.

Ok...I caved and bought a pair of the Maui Jims sports sunglasses with the bronze tint!
Thanks everyone for the great replies ;)

psst... you can!!! but it does depend on your script

i just made myself a pair of coach suns at work yesterday. as a pervious poster said, the lenses aren't polarized, but i had them switch them for me. i am so lucky to work for the lab; i own 7 pairs of sunglasses. 5 coach, 1 gucci and a beat-up, ready for the trash pair of nauticas. i'm getting a pair of ed hardy's and maybe some maui jims. i'm on the fence about those though.

I bought 3 pairs of sunglasses last summer....ask me where they are? I have no idea. I just pick up a pair of brand name at TJ Maxx or Marshalls.
