We have 6 of traveling from airport to POR, what is the best/cheapest way to do this round trip. Rent car, taxi, Mears or Tiffany Towncar....trying to cut back on costs.

I have used FloridaTowncar for years and have no complaints
Florida Towncar Service you have party of six, so don't know if it will work for you .....
Florida Towncar Service offers direct Towncar service to your hotel and back to the airport. You can enjoy the comfort of a Towncar after a long flight. There is a maximum capacity of 5 passengers per car. Our Internet rate is $85 flat rate round trip, per car. (Magic Kingdom Resorts are $95 flat rate round trip - due to Disney fee.) Payment is made directly to the driver at time of drop off at your hotel and we accept cash or travelers checks only. You will be given a prepaid voucher for the return trip, and you will also have the same driver for the return trip.

Tiffany Towncar advertises on their site:for a VAN ( which would hold 6)
from MCO to Disney resorts a cost of 95.00 RT.

As for Mears. I personally avoid them, I prefer the personal service of individual towncar, and I am not feeling like a sardine in a can by taking a motorcoach.

but each family has to make their own decision what is best for them. Good luck .

I used Prestige Towncar in September and they were great! $80 roundtrip to a Magic Kingdom hotel (we had to show our reservations at the entry to the man in the little building - didn't get out of car). They also have vans and limos at reasonable costs! Ask for Romeo.

We love TiffanyTown Car. We have used them the last two years and they were GREAT! We have a large family and we all fit with no problems. There is also a coupon for them on their website for $5.00 off roundtrip and an $8.00 off coupn in the Passporter 2004. We used Mears the first time we flew and we will NEVER use them again. We waited at the airport for almost an hour before we left and they charge per person, not a flat rate. They did not send anyone to pick us up for our return trip even though I called and reminded them. We almost missed our flight. If it wasn't for a family sharing their TiffanyTown car we would have missed our flight. Hopes this helps!

We have used Tiffany, and love them. The first time we had the van, due to babystrollers, carseats, etc. It wasn't as comfortable as the towncar, but still nice.

When you add the fact that they give you a grocery stop, it helps add to the savings. When you figure that water is $2.50/bottle, at the parks. For a family of 4 @ 2 bottles/day, that is $20.00/day, just for water. For our 8 day stay, I saved about $145 in water alone, by using the grocery stop.

We did Mears in August and it was a PITA!!!

Made us wait 30 mins for the bus. Driver was rude and still expected a tip.

Then they pack you in...

I wishi I would have gone with Tiffany.

Ok you are all scaring me. I leave tomorrow and we are using Mears. Do you think its to late to change?

In your case I would doubt that Mears is your cheapest option because you pay per person. In my opinion it is also the "worst" option. I believe that the shuttle holds 8-10 people so there would be others traveling with you besides your own family. You may not be the first "stop" and you most likely will be delayed in getting where you want to go.

6 people wouldn't fit in a traditional sedan-type taxi and I'm not sure what the addional costs would be for getting a van-type. This is a better option than Mears in that taxis are readily available and you can get on your way, right away.

Towncars are my favorite option because your driver will be waiting for you at the airport and can assist you with getting your luggage and then taking you direct to your resort. The rate you pay is for the car, not per person. As mentioned, you can have a complimentary grocery stop and pick up snacks for the hotel, or soda or whatever that will add to your savings. In addition to this thread if you check out the "transportation" board they will give you lots of reviews of the different companies.

Another option you didn't mention is that you could choose to rent a car for one day at the beginning and end of your trip. There are several companies with drop-off points at Disney world. You would have to determine if your time spent doing this is worth the savings it would give you. But the roads are well marked and easy to navigate from the airport so it's just another choice.

Good luck,
Brenda

Thanks Brenda. Yea its just me and my 8 yr old son. I have no idea how much I am being charged for it either since it was combined with my hotel. i hope my agent cals me back soon.

I searched high & low online for alternate transportation to AKL. I was told to call Mears by my TA. Glad I didn't. There are also 6 of us coming into WDW from Detriot on Feb. 17. We rented a stretch limo from Southern Elegance Limousines.....

They're had the best rate that I found of all the services....being a party of 6 you can't just rent a town car.....have to have something a bit bigger...

Hey you're on vacation....go for the gusto....

Personally, I would watch for specials on renting a car and do that. We are soooo glad that we decided to rent a car for our recent trip b/c we could go by our schedule and not Disney transportation. We picked up our rental at the airport and were on our way. That particular week, we got a mid-size SUV for under $200 for the week. It was worth it. With a group that size, you could watch the deals and codes and grab up a large sedan or minivan and go at your own pace(go offsite for groceries or dinner, etc.) I know that when I was looking everyone had deals for Dodge Caravans at $199/wk. Good Luck!!

I've never had a good experience with Mears. With the four of us, we get a town car and it is not much more. Definately worth the convenience and comfort. And no one is rude and makes me wait and stop at a bunch of resorts I am not going to.

For six, a van would definately be better than mears.
