Cheap meals Disneyland and area

As for in the park. To us the meals are not big enough to share, we are piggy's. Eat every bite! We really love the chicken strips at the Stage Door Cafe, you get fries with it and I think it's $7.99 or so. We also like Hungry Bear for burgers and chicken sandwiches. Another good on is a corn dog at the corn dog cart or a chimichanga at a cart. SO GOOD.y

Actually, the chicken strips at Stage Door are now only chicken nuggets. Still chicken breast and all that - but even the kid's meal is so not worth it, now that there aren't any more strips. $5.99 seems kinda pricey for a kid's meal with four little (very little) chicken nuggets and some apples or fries.

Just wondering if pretty soon they'll change it to fish nuggets and cheese nuggets, too??? Instead of fish filets and cheese sticks.

Yeah I made the list before Burger Invasion closed that's why it's still on there :o) I need to take it off my list. I actually print this off and I take it with me into the park so if I am craving a certain kind of food I know exactly where to go and that it won't cost me an arm and a leg.

Great list iKristin. I've added it to my tips document (DIS tips and info I cut and paste into a word doc and print to take with me).

FYI, stay far far away from Captain Kidd's, it is disgusting!!!!! Seriously, it won't save you any money because you won't be able to eat and you'll have to eat again later. It was gross!!!!

We like to go down Harbor to Joe's Crab Shack, Red Robin or the Outback, we share at these locations with no problems. We also love Mimi's & Millie's is very good. The Denny's is good and reasonably priced but the IHOP is way overpriced to avoid that one. We really like the food at RFC so we will go there and share a Maya's Combo, it's enough for DBF and myself but we generally share a free appetizer as well. :) Tortilla Joe's, we did the take out window and it was not good, not good at all and we had tummy aches and other "issues" the next day. :( We love Ralph Brennan's Jazz Kitchen and we've had great experiences there with the express window. There's a McD's on Harbor as well, not my favorite place to eat but it's there. :)

We're planning on getting the Orange County Entertainment book for the HOJOS discount, and that will have BOGO restaurant coupons.

I haven't checked the local area, but Restaurant.com coupons may be another way to get a good discount on local restaurants. We use it in the SF Bay Area frequently.

I'm planning on cooking in the hotel room for some of our meals, for budget and health reasons. My husband is on a low-sodium diet and eating out for 3 meals a day is just not feasible.

There is a Buca di Beppo down Harbor as well. They always have very generous portions and are a good value.

In the parks the one I did not see listed is Taste Pilots Grill. They have a bar to add to your burger that is very generous with lettuce, tomatoes, etc so you can get a very filling burger. And The Works fries are a meal unto themselves! Sooooooooo good and very filling.

You don't have to get the OC book for HoJo. Since OC is one of the more expensive books they have, just get the book for your own area (or the cheapest one). I've read repeatedly that the coupons for food in the OC book aren't for the Disneyland area. Of course if someone has that book to check for you, that would be good. You don't want to go by just my opinion since I have never seen the OC book. :) But it's what I've read a few times!

Oh, that's good to know! We get our local book every year and use the heck out of it, so good to not have to buy an extra book!

In DTD we like to get the chicken burritos from TJ's window and eat outside while we do some fun people watching. Our DD's prefer the bagel dogs from Wetzels so usually DH or I will go to Wetzels to get some while the other is waiting w/a table at TJ's.

...I almost forgot to mention this...

If you register on the Mimi's website, they will give you a coupon for a free breakfast. I registered each one of my family members (with their own email addresses). We just had breakfast for 4 and only paid for beverages.

If anyone knows...... our trip is 30 days away. When signing up should I wait a bit or are the coupons not dated to expire? I'd hate to sign up to early and get coupons that expire before our trip. Then again, I'd hate to get them after we get back home. There is no Mimi's in my area to use otherwise.

TIA

The Entertainment Book is good through Nov.01st. Then you would need a new EC, in order to utilize the various discounts.
The Mimi's coupons, I remember reading on this forum, that it does have an expiration date printed on it. I believe it gives you at least two weeks. So I would wait a bit before signing up.

why did they mess with the strips? I liked them im not so sure ill like the nuggets

For Mimi's wait to get the coupon until right before you leave. they email it to you right away but it's only good for like 14 days. I've already wasted 2 because 1 I got way too early and the other one plans changed last minute so we didn't do Mimi's for breakfast. :(

Thanks. I guess I was having a "duh" moment. I have like 4 emails I use and I could have just done one to see what the date was. But at least now I can just wait and do it that week we leave. :thumbsup2

I have 6 of us in our family. If I get a coupon for each of us do they have to be used on different days or can we use them all at the same time?

They cannot be used at the same time, same table or same tab. You would have to use them on different days or be seated apart from each other.

Yelp is this great website that lets you search by type and $$$ and location. I found two great restaurants that are super cheap eats but are kinda holes in the wall. If you like mexican food try Alerto's on Harbour and La Casa Garcia on Chapman. The prices and value cannot be beat!!!! :goodvibes

Ya, we used to go to Golden Horseshoe to watch the Billy's, we'd get 1 chicken strip and 1 cheese stick order and share it 4 ways and have just enough room to share 2 cookie sundaes. Sucks that they changed that!
