VM won't work (posted earlier), the low priced plan (need to be under $20 a month) doesn't include texting...

HOnestly, no one using voice here, just texting... sigh.

We got a TracFone for my DS13. It is not unlimited texting, though. I buy the $25 card about every other month. The phone we bought came with triple minutes, so whatever card we add, he gets triple that amount.

We are using chit chat mobile. Lowest plan is 9.99 unlimited text & 250 min. You need a sprint phone tho (eBay). had it since Oct & so far so good.

We use PagePlus Cellular. Have been with them 2 years. They have a $12 plan that includes texting... It's the plan my husband uses also.

It uses Verizon towers so we've had great experience with service without the horrible pricing of Verizon.

Another fan of PagePlus here. The $12 plan includes 250 texts, 250 minutes, and a negligible 10 MB of data. Bought a used Verizon phone on eBay for $20 and DS has never had a problem with the phone or service. $12 a month pre-paid can't be beat and I don't have to worry about overages.

my kids use tracfone with triple minutes for life. Yes does have texting include. They all have android phones that uses Verizon towers.

I just got my ds a tracphone that has triple minutes. He is satisfied with it. He has a laptop at home. So, he didn't really care about a phone with a data plan. He mainly uses the phone just to to call or text me to pick him up after a game or whenever he needs a ride.

The least expensive idea may in fact be to add her to your family plan. My DD is on my family plan (we share 1400 minutes which we never use and everyone has free unlimited texting), and it costs $15 a month to do that.

Someone mentioned a plan that includes 250 texts...be aware that most teens and pre-teens will go WAY over that. ;) Mine routinely uses in the range of 6,000 - 8,000 texts per month, and about 10 minutes of call time.

We use Ting, which is a Sprint MVNO.

They allow you to select "buckets" of info. My 11yo has an emergency phone that rarely sees use. So, we pay $6/mo to have it active, and then if it is used the "bucket" starts. Our highest bill has been $12. With a heavy texter it will be more, but you can disable data and voice or have 100 minutes for $3.

I like their business model!

ty all!!! How do i get a phone for Ting? are they $$$$?

We had an old SPrint phone lying around. You might want to check out eBay for an older sprint phone or you can buy one through Ting's site.

Can't buy a ting off of Ting site, as they're $$$. Cheapest is $90. I don't have a phone number yet. Can I buy a used spring phone and still get Ting to give me a phone number? thanks

If the phone barely sees use, I'm curious - why not a pay as you go? I have a Tmobile Pay as You go plan. You can either top it up every 3 months to keep the number active or become a gold member by spending at least $100 (prepaid card) at which point it only needs to be topped up with $10 once a year.

I live in Canada and use that when I travel in the US. I use maybe $30 a year on that phone. With your low use, your outlay could be $20-$30 a year. There are other pay as you go plans that might work even better for your specific situation.

I remember looking at buying cheap phones for under $30 with a bunch of prepaid minutes.

True. but where do you buy the tmobile phone itself?

Yes, check their supported devices list. Nearly any Sprint phone will work on Ting.

I have an unlocked smartphone. I'm pretty sure they (and other prepaid companies) all sell cheap phones for the prepaid market. I know i've seen $20-30 phones in stores all over the place.

Or what abt buying a phone off ebay or craigslist/kijiji?

Happy to buy used from either, but I'm told you never know if that phone will work with kajeet or etc.
