Teacher appreciation week is next week, March 3-6. I am helping the room mom organize something for each day for either the kids to do or for us to do for her. I am not going to rely on donations from parents, times are tough and it is too much of a hassle. Besides, this teacher will like personal things done by her kids..she is the sweetest teacher I have ever met. She also has an assistant, so we have to do for her, too.

I thought it might be nice for this thread to have ideas of cheap/free things to do for teachers on this week of recognition. Post your ideas!!

Here are a couple that I have done in the past that worked out really well.

1) I buy a large vase from Walmart-about $3. I send a note home to parents to have their child bring in a flower on that day to fill the vase. The kids just love this, to see how their one flower combines with the other kids' to make a big beautiful bouquet.

2) I ask the teacher for 10 minutes of time alone with the kids. She goes out, and I pass out pretty/bright colored note paper to each kid. I ask them to write why/what they like about their teacher. I usually have a basket or something to put these in to present to their teacher.

3) I ask for another 10 minutes of the kids time. I fold a piece of poster board in half and have them each put a letter on the front to spell out, "Happy Teacher's Day!" and sign the inside.

4) I am going to personally write a letter to the principal about how wonderful I think these teachers are.

Anybody else have any ideas?

My DS and DD included a lotto ticket I bought out of the vending machine at the grocery store (so no wasted gas driving out of my way) For $1 it was a wonderful source of entertainment and one teacher won $$ with his scratch-off;)
I used a theme such as "we won the lotto with a teacher like you" many thanks for all you do.

No ideas, but I love all of yours! My class did #3 for me for Valentine's Day. I think writing to the principal is a wonderful thought. Teachers need a pat on the back from their principal every now and then, and principals need a reminder sometimes about their teachers. Let us know what you decide!

Great ideas ladies. I love the flower idea. I also think I will include the lotto. My daughter's 1st grade teacher is great. This is her first year teaching. I would like to do something for her each day.

Keep those great ideas coming.

We have Teacher Appreciate Week next week. We have come up with 5 days that are all very affordable for families.

Monday - The same flower idea as above. I tell parents they can purchase, pick or make a flower.

Tuesday - I have sent home shamrock die cuts, 2 for each child. They are asked to have the child write something on one and the parent on the other. We will decorate her door with paper and the saying, "We are so lucky to have you as our teacher!" The kids get to place their shamrocks on the door on Tuesday morning.

Wednesday - I provide a plastic container and let the kids "Stock the classroom". They can bring in stickers, colored copy paper, pens, markers or anything else the teacher can use throughout the year.

Thursday - The kids are to bring in a picture they have drawn of themselves and the teacher. I ask them to write a little note on each one and I "bind" these into a keepsake book.

Friday - I provide a basket and each child can bring in a "goodie". These range from homemade baked goods to gift cards depending on what each family wants to do.

The way we figured this out, each child could participate all 5 days for under $8.

Hope this helps!

Our school is doing:

Monday - handwritten notes/pictures to tell your teacher how much she means to you

Tuesday - pamper day - send in a little something for the teacher like lotion, soap, bath products

Wed - school supply day - stock the classroom with any school supplies

Thursday - Purchase a book at the book fair for your child's class.

Friday - Flowers - you can send in your own or send in $1 and the school provides them

Hope you don't mind a teacher's perspective:). One of the best gifts I've ever gotten was a small scrapbook with my student's pictures and a note from each student. A couple of the students had decorated the front and back cover. While it wasn't free, it was low cost and very much appreciated!

I did this very thing for my older DD's 1st grade teacher 2 yrs ago. I was fortunate enough to be able to volunteer one morning a week and was able to send home a scrapbook page w/ each child discreetly w/ instructions for them to send in a photo for me to affix (or they could do it) and embellish it themselves, and then on the back I had them write something about the teacher. It was the end of the year gift for her and I was able to include photos from the field trip too :) She still tells me it was one of her favorite gifts ever :)
