Cheap and Easy (the Reviews, Not the Food) from Sept 5-11, Updated 9/28 with Day 3!

Great reviews! Can't wait for the Boma breakfast review. We'll be there in a little over a month and are really looking forward to eating there.

Thanks you guys. I finally found the time now to start the reviews again. Keep tuned in 10 min.!

THE MARA

from, Day 3, September 7th

Time on Receipt: 7:12 AM

Cast Member: Kamar (sweet girl, helped us out throughout the week)

Situation: Yes, the time is ungodly early. However, I was surprising Dustin this day for breakfast on the balcony for animal watching. Oh and trying to go to your room with a full tray of food is hard! Especially when no one wants to open the door for you... even if you look pathetic with a turn-downed lip and groan out load when you approach the door. Nope, said man just walks on in without holding the door.

Review:

MICKEY WAFFLE WITH SAUSAGE
IMG_2853.jpg

Dustin: It was somewhat coldish when I ate it, but that was not my fault as Sarah had to travel far and away for it. The sausage was pretty good dunked in the maple syrup.

BOUNTY PLATTER
IMG_2852.jpg

The cast members looked thoroughly confused when I asked for no meat and extra waffle. They tried giving me one that was already prepared and the meat was just taken off. Meeh nooo, please, I don't want the juices. Everything was good about it though. No big complaints, except the eggs this time were somewhat hard. Good mickey waffles though.

Summary:

Bounty Platter: 8.29
2 soy milk: I think 2.39 each, so 4.78
Total w/ tax: 13.85
1 CS Credit

OOP---
Waffle with Meat: 5.69
Total w/ tax: 6.06

Everything was smooth, and it was practically empty. The Mara really became an integral part of our vacation.

KRINGLA BAKERI OG CAFE

from, Day 3, September 7th

Time on Receipt: 12:25 PM

Cast Member: Ida

Situation: Well Epcot touring sure makes you hungry, no? Especially after speed walking to Soarin', then Test Track, then Mission: Space. Oy vey. We were pretty hungry by the time we reached Mexico, but I trudged along with Dustin knowing what lies ahead one country beyond...

IMG_2913.jpg

How can one choose? Oh and do they look at you expectantly--practically forcing you to make a choice right then and there! For me that was easy... for Dustin, not so much.

GOURMET SALMON SANDWICH
IMG_2914.jpg

We both got this. A year ago this was on a long piece of bread, open-faced, this time it was on a hardish crusty bread. It was still good though. For those of you who do not know, it is quite a strange sandwich. Smoked salmon, scrambled eggs, butter (oh man do the people from Norway love butter), lettuce, and tomato (which Dustin happily offered to me). It is so very good and so very fattening.

SUGAR FREE CHOCOLATE MOUSSE
IMG_2920.jpg

Dustin: This is sugar free? Didn't taste like it! Good.
Sarah's edit: It was very rich and dense. Did not have the gross aftertaste that sugar free desserts usualy have.

SCHOOL BREAD
IMG_2919.jpg

IMG_2926.jpg

I got this on the advise of these boards, and I must say, it was very nice. The bread part itself was somewhat dry, but the inside was very sweet and rich... yet light almost. Very good.

Summary:

Chocolate Mousse: 3.59
2 Salmon Sandwich: 15.98
School bread: 2.49
2 Regular Diet Cokes: 4.18
Total w/ tax: 27.81
2 CS Credits

We love Kringla for lunch. It is so underrated too. Everyone we saw was either eating desserts or snacks, not a full lunch. But anways, next time you are there, try it out, you might like their offerings!

SNACKS!!!

from, Day 3, September 7th

Time on Receipts: 1:02 PM, 5:51 PM

Cast Member: Katja, Gilbert

Situation: The best part of Epcot is all of the food offerings. Unfortunately, the amount of our bounty was quite disappointing this time around. We usually eat so much more than this! Hah! Hah... yeah, okay. We are piggies.

Review:

PRETZEL FROM GERMANY
IMG_2942.jpg

Oh goodness, the perfect pretzel! So soft and crispy, with hard salt and very warm. Maybe I am the odd person out, but Auntie Anne's leaves a lot to be desired compared to this beauty.

Pretzel: 3.29
Total w/ tax: 3.48

TROPICAL SMOOTHIE
IMG_2954.jpg

This was from the Fife and Drum stand in America. It was okay. Somewhat watery and weak tasting. But fine when it is hot out. We were cranky.

Tropical Smoothie: 3.99
Total w/ tax: 4.25

CAPPUCINO SMOOTHIE
IMG_2955.jpg

Looks like Dustin was thirsty, hot, and cranky too. His was better than mine (boo! hiss!), but he accidentally paid with his credit card instead of the dining plan. I guess we were that delirious.

CANDY FROM MIYUKI
IMG_2961.jpg

Lookie! Its a rabbit! So adorable. She is very mesmerizing to watch! And this time we were on a hunt to get candy from her. Why so determined? Well... the first time we were chosen, we lost the candy. The second time--it broke to a smashing million pieces and we had to throw it away. This time... we ate it!

Candy: Free!

Coming up next: Rose & Crown dinner

What did it taste like? Does it just taste like sugar or does it have a different flavor? I have always wondered what the candy tastes like.

Awesome review and photos!
Where did you get that cappuccino smoothie? It looks so nice! :goodvibes

You know, it tasted like a mellow lollipop. It didn't have a discernable taste to it. Not like orange or cherry and the like. More like an unflavored rock candy. Make any sense? LOL I am not sure if I do :rotfl2:

Thank you for reading! We got the smoothie from the Fife and Drum kiosk in America. Its the one thats to the left of the Funnel Cakes.

That salmon sandwich looked great. Cannot wait to read more :)

It was good. Its easy to emulate at home, too! Thank you for reading. :goodvibes

Is the salmon sandwich hot or cold? :confused3

Ah, I should have specified. It is cold. :goodvibes I dunno if it would taste good hot.. eww hot smoked salmon :scared: Thank you for reading!!

quixoticvalue, I have a question for you about Tony's. We have an adr for a dinner at Tony's in Nov. I notice they don't have the bianca flatbread on the dinner menu they have listed at allears but do you know if they can or will make it for dinner if you request it? Also, has your boyfriend had the spaghetti and meatballs there? Wondering how the meatballs were, great or bland and boring? Spag. and sweet sausage?

Thanks for the detailed reviews, appreciate it! You're a great writer and it's fun to read your reviews! :goodvibes

Hi Minniekins! Why... thank you so much for the compliments! :wizard:
'Kay about Tony's. Well... we've only gone to Tony's for lunch, never dinner. And I suppose our reasoning to this is that we love the flatbread! If you ask, it wont hurt, since they can either tell you yes (woo hoo!) or no and won't look at you strange (:3dglasses ). We've never had the spaghetti and meatballs there, but I have seen it in person and it looks huge. They give you at least three big sized meatballs. I have had their spaghetti with an eggplant parmesan before, and it was good, al dente. Good luck for you when you go though... the flatbread sure is tasty. :cloud9:

Make Your Own Rice Crispy Treat

THIS is MY KIND of covered treat. White chocolate and a plethora of rainbow sprinkles. Yumm-o!

KONA ISLAND SUSHI BAR

Thanks for the pics from here. Did you notice if they do plain sashimi or nigiri in addition to the rolls. Sometimes rolls are nice but when I want sushi, I'm usually craving sashimi.

OK ... now before I go get some exercise in, is the backscratcher a better drink than the lapu lapu? I've not tried either but admit to being fond of the idea of drinking booze out of a hollowed out pineapple even though I don't like pineapples. Now that I think about it ... that doesn't make much sense, does it? Does a lapu lapu taste like pineapple? Because if it does I think I need a new drink suggestion.

Help me! :lmao:

Sorry for responding to Brenda on your DR but I had an answer about the Lapu Lapu. It was VERY fruity in a "you're going to down this in two seconds because it tastes like fruit juice and will become quickly inebriated due to the copious amounts of rum" way but it didn't really taste like pineapple. It was very fun to drink but that pineapple was heavy! The refills come in cute glasses and they are much better.

Enjoying the reviews. Thanks for sharing!

Oh, your welcome! Well, I think I'll probably have the spaghetti and meatballs, I read in another thread too, the meatballs are great! Sounds yummy, but I'm going to ask about the bianca flatbread just in case. (is it very garlicky, or just a little?) Of course, that gives me another decision to make if they say yes!

Thank you for reading!! 1) Oh yes, he really enjoyed that treat!:thumbsup2
2) Unfortunately, they didn't have nigiri, but they do have sashimi, just three kinds combined on a plate. I believe I read it on allearsnet, but I didn't see it when I was there.
3) Thank you for telling your experience with the Lapu Lapu! Oh boy, that would make me pass out!

Ah well, it is quite garlicky, but not as bad as like... a garlic roll or a garlic texas toast. More like faint, but still definitely there.

I've enjoyed reading so far - and love the pictures - YUMMO!

You have helped out a newbie like me a ton! I am trying to plan our ADR's for September! Thanks for the help!!
