Here are the ones I made for Jasmine. One for her wedding, and of course the classic one.

Beautiful costumes, Melody! :goodvibes

Still no word from the school...:surfweb:

wow Melody! You are an amazing seamstress! You should go into business and make costumes to sell! :goodvibes

Hang in there Alex..first day for office is busy busy... we don't know the boys bus schedules, I think it was overlooked as they sent out the postcard passes based on enrollment end of year. We qualify for reduced lunch-- no need to pay for bus-- woohoo.. gotta love the good things about being poor :lmao: Bus costs $200 per child unless you live more than 2 miles away.. umm who the heck let's their kid walk more than a mile in a MN winter??

Hubby had kids showing up as new registry in the first full week of school. Families are more transient than ever before... especially families living in poverty. Not because of being homeless, just moving around to find cheaper rent.. better place.. or moving in with family.

I know J's buddy has moved twice in the year we were gone. Still not at the district he wants to be in..and they didn't apply for out of district due to bus issues.. they live with family off and on. It's gotta be hard to not be a cititzen and hold a steady job. :guilty:

Heyyyyyyy!

Welcome back! Glad you had a good trip. Sorry about the super-barfies, though, that sucks.

Hey staley!

Bummer about the pukeys, glad to hear you had a fun trip :goodvibes

I know. I'm just wound up because:
1. We feel strongly about this particular situation
2. We want to get it resolved ASAP because it's going to be weird for him to be moved, which is our goal.
3. They SAID they'd call before noon
4. I'm feeling terribly guilty about the whole thing!

I tell you, I am not a "let's make waves" kinda person, I pretty much go with the flow, suck it up, make the best of it. But we felt really strongly about it, so here I am, pushing (and stressing about the pushing.) :rotfl:

You GET a bus under 2 miles??? Wow. Of course we don't have winters like yours. And the school district I was in at that age was po'! They couldn't pass a levy to save their souls. They cut building maintenance, bus services, food services, closed down parts of buildings for safety reasons... But it wasn't until they threatened to cut the damn football program that parents got up in arms and starting helping out and raising funds. WHO CARES if my kid doesn't have a book for class or the building is falling down around his ears, they'd better not cut FOOTBALL! :sad2:

I am a "don't make waves" person too.. I feel you pain and think you are very brave to speak up :flower3:
Bus: one mile or more from school-- allowed bus but must pay (middle and high school) (it was more than 6 blocks for elementary).
Free if you are on lunch program.

More than two miles = free bus (we are more than 2 miles for J, one mile even for N)

This district is very good about asking for funds.. they have a budget to keep the community informed thru newsletter mailings to everyone in area, local cable TV ads, ads in community newspapers, etc..
Considering the high school is rated in the top 500 in the nation... they can ask for all the money they need/want and will likely get it!

I remember Duluth schools being old descript buildings as a child.. we had bats flying in the hallways at my grade school :lmao:
Over the years they gradually cut back on costs.. cutting some sports, arts, phy ed to just one semester in high school needed.

They still use the same high school building, 20 years later.. which amazes me as some parts were built in the 1920s .. we had plaques on hallway walls dedicated to students who left school to fight in WW II. :sad1:

The school we attended in CA was very old like that, but the ones in WA are newer. My old elementary school was probably built in the '60s, and DS's elementary school here was built, I believe, the same year I started kindergarten. You KNOW how old that is! :rotfl:

They're tearing it down, so DS4 will attend the new building for kindergarten. :thumbsup2

ETA: That made it sound like EVERY SCHOOL in WA is newer, that's not what I meant. There are GORGEOUS older schools in Seattle, some of which they've tried to preserve and still use. Others have been torn down, and at least one was converted into beautiful condos. Would have loved to live in one of those!

OK, gonna go wake the munchkin to get ready for the walk to school. See ya!

Hello Hyenas,

Staley- welcome back! Sorry you are feeling puke-ish but I'm glad you had a great time on your trip :goodvibes

Melody- those costumes are awesome! :thumbsup2

Alex- I'm sorry you had such a crazy morning and that the line was so long. I hope everything gets resolved soon.

My first elementary school on the west end of Duluth is now lofts/condos , the elementary I went to in Lakesisde area of Duluth-- was sold to the Catholic church and they use it as an elementary. Their elementary building next to the church was very OLD .. so I guess it was an improvement

The junior high I attended was built as part of a WPA project, my grandfather was one of the builders. It is now slated to become the high school in the area, student population has changed.. they plan to switch the middle and highschool buildings to meet demands. Too many old people in the city and not enough youngsters to make more students

hmm.. that would be becuase in the 90's there were no jobs in Duluth.. I know most of my friends left. Bunch live in Seattle..and a few in Phoenix .. which I find very amusing.

Howdy Hyenas! So we had a nice surprise for the first day of school. We couldn't figure out why only 1 other kid came down our road to catch the school bus. Well, it seems the school district decided there are now enough kids up our road and they would have to walk several miles, so the bus now goes up our road!

It really doesn't affect us much, since we are the first house on the road and my kids never had to walk very far. But it was turning into a regular traffic jam every morning at my house, everyone was turning around in my driveway while I was trying to leave, couldn't get out of my driveway because of kids and cars everywhere. So it will be much nicer in that respect!:thumbsup2

Melody - AWESOME costumes! You are so talented!!

Bernice - seen your smooch photos. They look great and I love the one where you are laughing.:thumbsup2

Alex - go ahead make waves. If you don't stick up for your kids, then who will?!

Megan - glad you're back, we missed you. Sorry you have the pukeys!

Pix - I always think of you on the 1st of every month now....how much you complain about accounting! Which of course makes me glad I work by myself and nobody is around to complain when I close the books out! Hope your new person works out.

Sigh....busy day and I finally get a few minutes before 5pm to chat and no one is here. Story of my life.

Hi guys,
Things are not good here...The freak has crossed the line and we had to involve the police....I did not take a W for the class he is in with me. The prof. is sending me all work via-blackboard....I may be taking the rest of them on blackboard if it can be worked out with the prof.'s...if not I have to take a W....

I am very nervous about all of it.

Oh GOSH NO, Gina!

I was just thinking yesterday that the last time I'd seen a post from you was about that creep! I'm so sorry things went south. I hope the police take care of it and get him outta there, holy cow!

Stay safe.

If the police are involved, why can't the school kick him out of class, or out of the school entirely? I don't understand!

I had a stalker in college once, but I suspect a few of my guy friends paid him a visit after I realized he was following me and got real jumpy. Where I used to see him at every turn, he suddenly just disappeared, and it was such a relief!

They can't do anything until I have a restraining order or he is convicted of a crime....
