Shawna, I got a chance to read DH your cup story to DH (and the boys), and DH nearly passed out laughing so hard! Good thing he was already seated. :rotfl2:

DS7 was laughing, too, but I'm not sure how much he followed since he has no idea what a cup is. They weren't required to wear them in flag football. We all enjoyed the mental image of Jake pounding on his cup with the toy hammer, the sailboat and of course Superman! :lmao:

That's great! :thumbsup2

How are the Staleys today?

Swim classes went well for us today. DH stayed with the boys while I dashed over to Barnes & Noble for a bit more shopping. I bought The Kissing Hand for DS4, and some workbooks for both boys, plus the I SPY School Days.

I talked to my mom and gave her some gift ideas for DS7, and websites to find them. The prices were better online, but she's a little squeamish about ordering online, so I offered to do that for her, and she agreed. So that's what I did this afternoon, doing my mom's shopping for DS7's, my niece's and my nephew's birthdays. :rotfl:

Eh... Okay, I guess. Frelan was so tired today that he didnt get out of bed until about 20 minutes before he had to be at work. Which is 40 minutes away. :sad2: Poor guy. At least I am feeling well enough to actually do the stuff around the house that needs to me done. Starting tomorrow. :lmao: My house is such a wreck right now. I think if Alison saw it, she would have a stroke.

BOTH of my kids fell asleep while watching TV today. Mikalah usually does, if she doesnt get enough sleep the night before. But I cant remember the last time Alex took a nap. It was crazy! We watched some of the Olympics.... First was beach volleyball... DH was still up, and he was all.... MAN. I think this is my new favorite sport!:lmao: :lmao: PERV!:rotfl2: :rotfl2:

Alex just DIGS the mens gymnastics, and swim. He is learning all their names, and wants to learn how to do it. MAN.. That mens gymnastics is amazing!! I have never seen it before, and DANG!! The talent! The strength!! The flexibility!!! The tiny outfits!;) :lmao:

Oh gosh, I grew up watching the Olympics. We were big-time armchair athletes, knowing who gave the best performances, why points would be shaved off. :lmao:

I love watching them, and I'm bummed I missed the opening ceremony, it sounded really cool. I just watched Phelps win his first gold of these games. :thumbsup2

:thumbsup2 We are not into sports at ALL. Honestly, I have never given a rats patootie about the Olympics before, but Alex is really interested in them. We started off watching the Samantha Brown China specials, and all the other travel shows on CHina, and that just got him all interested in the country... Then he wanted to see some of the sports.. Its so interesting to watch him get involved in this... He keeps asking me all these questions, :confused3 Like I know!:lmao: Sorry kid, when it comes to sports, your parents are CLUELESS!:lmao:

Oh, and now the child is asking when we can go to China. How about....... quarter to NEVER! That is a little to spendy for us! As much as we would like to go, I dont see it ever happening.

Don't you love the innocence of it all? I am hoping the boys will get into watching the sports, especially since they're doing gymnastics and swimming right now. Well, actually I think they have only one more class each in gymnastics, so we'll be done Monday.

I asked DS7 if he'd like to sign up for a fall boys-only class (they work on the mens' equipment), and he said, "No!" Ah. Well, OK then.

I noticed right away that the swimmers are wearing these long-legged suits now, what is up with that??? I've never seen those before.

I remember years ago swimmers (especially the men) would do everything they could to be as sleek in the water as possible, so they'd shave their entire bodies. I wonder if this is the new and improved sleekness to just over up everything with this slippery suit 'skin'. :confused3

Yeah... They crack me up. Mom, can we go out to eat? No, sorry... we dont have the money for it. Well... go to the bank and get some!:rotfl2: :rotfl2: If ONLY it were that easy.

Alex is DYING to do gymnastics. He cant WAIT. They dont offer it here during the summer, only in the fall.. So as soon as fall rolls around, we are all over it. Mikalah will do dance, and swim... Alex will do gymnastics, and swim. :thumbsup2

I was going to say something else, and I totally spaced on it. :lmao:

When I was looking for a new swim suit, I was on Speedo.com, and this is indeed the new swim thing. CRAZY spendy!

The women are wearing them, too, but of course it looks more like a cat suit with the straps across the back and chest covering. :rotfl:

Okay... I am WIPED. I am going to hit the hay, night Alex!

GEESH, seems a bit slow tonight...

I'm glad you're sleepy, hopefully this means a good night's sleep for you. Good night! :cloud9:

Good Morning Sweet Hyenas! DD & DH are off to the races this morning. DS & I are going to the Fair around 10am. So I'm finishing up my cup of coffee and getting ready to grab a bowl of cereal.

I love going to the Fair. I could spend forever walking around in the buildings looking at all the handmade crafts, photography and foods. Plus for some strange reason I love going thru the animal barns. Most of the people seem to be out at the carnival, shows and commercial exhibits. Not me though!!

Oh and did I mention my favorite part of the fair?? The Irish Sundae stand! A GIANT baked potato with butter, sour cream, cheese, sausage, bacon and green onions. It is a totally unhealthy 5 pound bowl of nothing but fat. I can rember being a kid and looking so forward to eating my Irish Sundae! YUMMY!!! I'm happy to say that I have now introduced the 4th generation of our family to this culinary delight at the Clark Co. Fair!

Have a Great Day Ladies!!

Good morning, hyenas!
Weather's iffy today; it rained last night, we had a brief sunbreak this morning, and now it's just overcast. :confused3

Sam, I always loved going to the fair. I love the sound of that Irish Sundae, I love baked potaoes with "the works"!

I grew up about a 20-min. drive from the fairgrounds for th Western Washington State Fair (Puyallup), and we used to go every year. In fact, we used to get a "Fair" day off school in early Sept. and a free ticket to the fair, though I'm not sure they do that anymore.

Do you guys do the Puyallup? I've never done the Clark County one, but it sounds right up my alley. I love the crafts and food and technical exhibits, and of course the rides! Not so much the smelly animals, but that does seem to be what DH gravitates to for some reason. I bet the boys would love that, too. :rotfl:

We've only been to the Monroe Fair once together. DH's family used to go to that one when he was little. It's much smaller than the Puyallup, and more like the old time country fair, with animal races, kids trying to catch a greased pig and so on.

I think I'll try to take the kids to the Puyallup this year, we have never taken them to a fair! I love the scones and strawberry jam, the "fort" where they have musical performances, and love to have an old time photo taken.

There's one ride, however, that I cannot stand. I can't bear to even hear the ride (it makes a big WHOOSHING noise) because when I was a teenager my family talked me into going on it against my better judgement. It's very similar to the Teacups ride, only the whole 'platter' of the ride tilts up and down on one side as it spins. My dad had our little car spinning so fast we couldn't sit up straight, and our absurd laughing was interrupted when we heard someone say, "Do you think we can stop them?" I looked up and saw like 30 heads spinning above me, and then suddenly there was a slight heave as the ride operators tried to stop our car spinning. They finally got it on the 2nd try, and we slowly teetered off the ride. I have no idea how long we were spinning after the ride ended. And I spent the rest of the day miserably dealing with an upset stomach due to motion sickness. That ride is a part of our family history. :scared: :sad2: :rotfl:

Well, we've got the usual Sunday chores to get through (grocery shopping + any other ads that look interesting, laundry, etc.) so I'd better get started.

Have a great day, everyone! :)

Happy Sunday! Hi. How is everyone? Good I hope. I finished my sewing class and in two weeks the fall semester starts up. No fun classes this time just general ed stuff. But I did talk DBF into taking a class with me so that should be fun. Speakimng of DBF he wrecked himself pretty good last week and it got infected. The doctor says its something called cellulitis in his foot. I feel so bad for him. He's in so much pain. Not much new with me. DBF says he's taking me to Disneyland as soon as he gets better because I've had to do so much for him since he's not supposed to be on his feet at all.

We have MN State Fair coming up in a few weeks. :cool1:
It's kind of a farewell to summer event as school starts as the fair ends on Labor Day.

We MUST see the art center, technology building and watch them carve the Dairy Princesses out of butter :thumbsup2 The princess and the artsit sit in a glass walled, rotating , refrigerated room. Bundled in parkas while the artist carves out a bust from a giant block of butter. Bonus: each princess gets to keep the butter sculpture after the fair

Then we eat whatever new "food on a stick" creation is featured for the year. Anything from deep fried candy bars to alligator. oooo and cheese curds (fried of course), bucket of fries, bucket of choc chip cookies... mm "eat your way thru the fair" - a grand MN tradition!
Washed down with a cup of "all you can drink" milk/chocolate milk from the Moo Booth == thank you MN Dairy Association. :thumbsup2 We buy two cups, run back into line for our refills multiple times until our bellies our sloshing full.

Some years we tackle the long climb up the stairs for the Giant Slide (riding on a burlap sack down down down).

Or we take the Sky Ride across the fairgrounds. The new ones look like ski lifts (dangling feet above people's heads) .. The old ones are round cages, the fair employees grab the cage, pop open the door and beckon you to quickly run and sit inside-- they lock the door and off you go - bobbing along to the other end of the fair.

They have a rotating space needle kinda thing too.. let's you have a bird eye view of the grounds.. but the line is always waaaaaaaay too long.

We walk thru the barns, the pet center (where they have vet surgery to watch), the DNR building with the huge tank of fish and dioramas of MN animals.

The Miracle of Birth building to see the piglets suckling, eggs hatching, and maybe catch some animal in the throes of birth. ewwww but fascinating too.

One year they had a bathroom sponsored by Cottenelle, cleanest bathroom in the whole park.. Air conditioned, someone handing you paper towels at the sinks. Replacing TP constantly, sanitizing toilets after each use.. Heavenly -- wish they all could be that way :lovestruc

They have an arcade-- blah whatever.. but they have the old penney machines and some other oldie but goodie ones from our childhood..

Lots of concerts, story/puppetry, parade... They have a "guy friendly" area.. skateboard demos, chain saw/axe competitions

The boys loved Tractor Hill when they were little, climb on tractors and other big farming machines. And HOme Depot has workshops to make birdhouses and stuff.

Anyway, something for everyone and we love it!

oh man, what is the deal with guys and the driving need to screw themsleves up!? Oh well, silver lining score a trip to DL :goodvibes

Cellulitis is no fun.. my BIL cut his hand at work on some metal (not paying attention at the time) , the occupational med urgent care barely washed it out before stitching it up. YEP it got infected and now he is trying to heal up cellulitits-- bigger deal as he is also a diabetic. :headache:
