today I have so much to get done and I just can't get myself moving...i should have already been at DS school to pay book fees and parking pass...oh and the required donation for seniors...(I ask you how can it be a donation if you HAVE to pay it? why don't we just call it what it really is... a FEE.

I need to pick up my books if possible today...

I also need to get myself some pants for school....(one teacher requires B.casual)

I have to get a million other things done as well and guess what...I don't feel like it...

Business casual? WOW. I guess my brother had that for one of his business classes and never understood it.

A senior donation I love how they get by with stuff like that!


Oh and I'm glad (but not glad) that you had the same problems with Imitrix because everyone else who takes it thought I was crazy since they love it. I was like "I thought I was going to DIE" So now that another has had the same reaction I dont feel like such a nut.

Good morning, hyenas!
Gorgeously sunny again today.

It's a little sad that it is August, nearly the end of summer, and I still feel the need to note those days when the sun makes an appearance... But I think Staley and Sam understand.

Last night I had a dull headache creep up on me and camp out over my left eye. UGH. I finally took something but I don't think it helped at all.

After the kids went to bed I watched the episodes of Big Love that I'd rented from Blockbuster. I find this show (and polygamy in general, I guess) fascinating! I'm through the 8th episode of the first season, and it seem like so many little problems are cropping up and turning from molehills to mountains, so I just keep waiting for the train wreck to occur!

Still have the headache, and my tummy felt a little iffy so I just had some toast, and will take some more pills and see if it helps.

Business casual? WOW. I guess my brother had that for one of his business classes and never understood it.

I think this is a great idea! Hard for some students financially, I suppose, but I am stunned by how many young adults think it's OK to go to job interviews wearing ripped jeans and faded, wrinkly t-shirts! Around here the trend started with Microsoft, dressing casually for interviews instead of the usual suit for professional jobs. I wonder how many people showed up with their dog along! (Microsoft used to allow people to bring their dogs to work.)

When I applied for my job, so many other techies sniffed , "omg, if I had to wear a suit for the interview, I wouldn't even bother applying, I just couldn't do it." Are you KIDDING ME? They're asking you to dress decently, not for a promise of your firstborn!

DH went on interviews in the early 2000s and said he was the only person wearing a suit. I always figured it was better to be overdressed than underdressed, but apparently it isn't always, some people at Microsoft (he contracted there for awhile) told him that wearing a suit could be a detriment! And so he started asking before some of the interviews, "What is the dress code?" and was often told business casual. Therefore, no suits. (But no ripped jeans, either!)

My dad had a friend who was pulled in by Sam Walton and told that he needed to lose the Armani suits because they were intimidating. He said to go to JCPenny and get a suit for $200 and wear those to work instead.

I guess I would qualify that further to say it shouldn't come as a surprise sprung on the kids; that would be awful to get to the final class (spring quarter I was always flat broke and borrowing money) and suddenly find out I had no appropriate clothing! If this is a requirement, they should know the expectation comes as part of the major.

Maybe there'd even be a used 'business casual' clothing exchange like the used book exchange.

just paid DS school fees..well I kinda cheated..I had him meet me and I ran in for the amount to put on the check..135.00 for a public school and a 20.00 donation..grand total..150. The problem that I have is he is doing a school to work program. This program is offered to seniors who have more than enough credits to graduate..He only needs senior english and has all the math. What are all the fees for if he only has 3 classes a day? he leaves before lunch and will be working. I know they won't kick in for gas

I expect this in private school..my daughters reg.fee was 200 not including books, specials etc...but for public?

I also did a drive by to Dillards and was able to snag a few pair of slacks...

we are not required to wear suits...yet but its ok,,,I have 4 so I am covered..I will be needing more so after christmas I will pick them up for next to nothing..And I agree with Alex...the kids know....even goodwill has the clothing..

Times have definitely changed. When I started working as a QAA in 1995 we wore dress suits to work. Pantyhose and heels every day, UGH! We were allowed to remove our jacket while at our desk, but if we got up (to attend a meeting, go to the cafeteria or outdoors, or even the restroom) we needed to put the jacket on. Then it became business casual, which at the time meant dresses or dress shirt and slacks. Now that has become the polos and khakis.

These were just what I have been looking for (not really...I just saw them and thought wow those would match a few outfits I have...I was going to talk myself out of getting them but I think Sat. before we meet my family for my B.day meal I will run in and get a pair...

Go for it!

I like the look of those Sketchers with the criss-cross velcro tie, I think they're really cute, and I've seen them in really cute colors and fabrics. But I tried on one pair to see how they felt, and (at least the one I tried) they felt flimsy and uncomfortable. I was so bummed! And they're pricey, like $45!

Maybe they'd look silly on a 45yo woman anyway, I notice they're marketed to teenage girls.

most time I hate shopping...I don't enjoy it if it is a HAVE to thing..but shoes are my weakness...

When I moved to florida I was shocked at how many people from other states wouldnt do the whole white shoes after labor day thing and no white in winter unless it was winter white. Here in Phoenix everything is ultra casual. We wear flip flops and grill all year round. White tennis shoes goes all the time who cares. Wearing shorts all year is normal too. There are no rules for dress. Of course work has rules but everything is so casual here that the thought of actually making college students dress up seems insane to me. I mean really dress up, dockers and polos are ok if that is what is considered the norm I guess.

Business casual when I worked in Arkansas (different rules even at Wal-Mart) was a dress shirt and slacks or a nice pencil skirt and hose and high heels. I got sent home one time because my skirt was a half an inch too short. I was 22. My skirt was at knee length. I was humiliated.

So I guess living in the desert has given me this perspective. maybe if I lived somewhere else I might feel differently but heck we barely cover up here in Jan.

I used to love shopping. I considered bargain hunting my hobby, I was very good at it!

But that was many moons and many pounds ago. Now I find shopping depressing because the size and shape are so hard to find something that looks halfway decent. I can't remember the last time I bought something and thought it looked GREAT! Now it's "Well, it's not too tight and doesn't bag in the crotch..." How sad is that???

But shoes! Shoes were always my weakness. I used to have heels in darn near every color. Well, every color I could wear, that is, I have odd coloring so that limited my wardrobe severely. Black shoes, brown, white, beige, pale pink, dark green. My favorite pair was eggplant purple!

I nearly cried when my feet grew too big for those, I loved them so much.

I didn' know that adult feet still grew until I visited my grandmother in 1992, just before she died. She made a remark on my feet, and I remember telling her mine were a size 9. She sighed, "Yes, I used to be a size 9, too. Now I'm a 10.5..." They were like big clown feet, and I just !!!
