The Pirouettes (I think are what the ship railings are called) had to be trimmed to fit, but cutting them was difficult because they are crumbly. I think I was using a thin paring knife, don't know if something else would have made a cleaner cut...?
I had to eat quite a few of those 'mistake' ones, dang it!
You ARE SO creative! That Splash Mountain cake was unbelievable!!!You know I'm not very creative. I can expand on someone elses idea but I have trouble coming up with them on my own. I usually search online and put a couple cakes together then make it my own by modifying it. Thank goodness for the internet!

I think they had some sort of skewers (wood?) stuck through the layers to help them stick together, and used the tiny oreo portholes to cover up the markings. But since it's supposed to lay on the curved side... all the weight of the cake comes down onto the point on the curve where it touches the flat surface of the board/tabletop. And gravity wins.Oh that does sound risky. I've been trying to figure out how that would even work. Seems it woudl split in half just sitting there. Yours was a great version of it though. You've got some talent. You hadnt taken classes. See, I have to have someone else teach me or else it looks like mush!

I know I'm dying. Once school starts in 3 weeks I think it will fly. I'm also a bit nervous. I wanted to lose some weight before seeing some of our old friends and that hasnt happened. I also keep changing ADR's and such. I've thought about making a pre-TR which are very popular on the wdw side but I think it would be boring to read. Might be a good way to sort through some stuff though.

So my sister has taken a class or two, but she wasn't much help. A friend of mine has never taken classes, I don't think... or maybe she has? She makes the cutest simple cakes with the star-shaped frosting tip, you know? I think she's self-taught, but she taught me several things, like freezing the cake to make it less crumbly for frosting/cutting. I told her my idea for modifying the design, cutting the bow and using one of the cutaways for the back portion, and she agreed that it should work. And I think she's the one who came up with the idea of drawing 'boards' with the toothpick.
I have no clue what it is or if its legal in this country but it works wonders! You can buy it at Joann's or Michaels. I think wal Mart might even have it in the cake decorating section. I wont bake anything without it now.

Is it some sort of Pam-like spray? Or a powder you sprinkle in the pan before baking??? I've never heard of it!I will tell you the absolute best thing I learned to always use from cake class.
Wilton's Cake Release. This stuff makes cakes just fall out of the pan with absolutely no crumbles. It doesnt flake or have crums at all. When dh saw what it did he said it must be some sort of polyurethane coating!

Whew, interest lost! I wanted to surprise the boys with them once they were done! I found some thin black t-shirts and these basketball-shaped iron-on nail head type thingies to put on the black tee, to go with the matching pj bottoms. I think they'll make a really cute pj set! Of course they may need to go up a size before I get them made at this rate...
I did notice people talk a lot about changing their ADRs. And how difficult they can be to book. So if they're that difficult to book, why would you change them once they're made???ADR's are huge at WDW. HUGE! There are so many places to eat with different themes. That does put DL to shame. Although there is more space obviously so that has to be one of the factors.
I remember working the dining hotline and these people would literally stress and cry over changing a dining reservation made 6 months in advance.
I think many of the TR's work through the where are we going when and which ADR to keep and which to change. Also they talk a lot about their outfits etc.
