The Pirouettes (I think are what the ship railings are called) had to be trimmed to fit, but cutting them was difficult because they are crumbly. I think I was using a thin paring knife, don't know if something else would have made a cleaner cut...?

I had to eat quite a few of those 'mistake' ones, dang it! :lmao:

cutting those would have been tricky. sometimes mistakes are nice though! :lmao: :lmao:

You know I'm not very creative. I can expand on someone elses idea but I have trouble coming up with them on my own. I usually search online and put a couple cakes together then make it my own by modifying it. Thank goodness for the internet! :lmao:
You ARE SO creative! That Splash Mountain cake was unbelievable!!!

But I do know what you mean. I wouldn't have known where to start even if I hadn't first seen several ideas online. And I pretty much follow instructions (recipes, whatever) to the letter, because I'm such a screw-up when I try something on my own! But I did not want to make that round-cake version and have it fall apart on the way to the party! SEVERAL people said that happened to them, even if the cake was just sitting on a table and wasn't moved! I just couldn't risk it, because it wasn't just around the corner, it was a car drive, so lots of bumping, too.

Less than 3 months until your WDW trip, SHawna? Wow, that's coming up fast!

SARAH!!!!!!

You went to Havasu?? Besides being a great place to go..............did you die from the heat???

Yep, we were there from the night of the 2nd through the night of the 7th. DBF's bday is the 3rd. Plus the shoot off fireworks from an island in the middle of the lake. It was so crowded. I have a few (very few) pictures. I'll have to get them uploaded. It was hot but we were in the water most of the time so it wasn't too bad. I think it was between 117 and 120 the whole time. Even the pool at the hotel was hot in the middle of the night.

cool cake Alex!
N (12 yr old) approved.. ooohhh cool! Pirates? That is cool!

:goodvibes

hmm, I'm in trouble now.. I was the last one to charge up the ryobi drill before we left CA. For the life of me, I can NOT remember what I did with the battery charger for it. :scared:

Hubby is seaching the car, since we would have packed it last.

whew.. saved!

He found it

Oh that does sound risky. I've been trying to figure out how that would even work. Seems it woudl split in half just sitting there. Yours was a great version of it though. You've got some talent. You hadnt taken classes. See, I have to have someone else teach me or else it looks like mush! :lmao:

I know I'm dying. Once school starts in 3 weeks I think it will fly. I'm also a bit nervous. I wanted to lose some weight before seeing some of our old friends and that hasnt happened. I also keep changing ADR's and such. I've thought about making a pre-TR which are very popular on the wdw side but I think it would be boring to read. Might be a good way to sort through some stuff though. :confused3

I also wanted to make some outfits for the kids. Obviously still have some time but I'm losing my nerve.

Ha welcome to my kind of weather! Lows in the 90's are pretty common here. Now you see why dizzy and I were talking that the pool in the summer gets to be where it is not that comfortable. Like swimming in warm bath water.

Glad you had fun though.

I think they had some sort of skewers (wood?) stuck through the layers to help them stick together, and used the tiny oreo portholes to cover up the markings. But since it's supposed to lay on the curved side... all the weight of the cake comes down onto the point on the curve where it touches the flat surface of the board/tabletop. And gravity wins. :confused3

So my sister has taken a class or two, but she wasn't much help. A friend of mine has never taken classes, I don't think... or maybe she has? She makes the cutest simple cakes with the star-shaped frosting tip, you know? I think she's self-taught, but she taught me several things, like freezing the cake to make it less crumbly for frosting/cutting. I told her my idea for modifying the design, cutting the bow and using one of the cutaways for the back portion, and she agreed that it should work. And I think she's the one who came up with the idea of drawing 'boards' with the toothpick. :)

I've seen a few of those pre-TRs, especially in the DL forum from WDW folks. I didn't quite get them. But... you've talked for 5 pages and you're not even leaving yet??? :rotfl2:

I will tell you the absolute best thing I learned to always use from cake class.

Wilton's Cake Release. This stuff makes cakes just fall out of the pan with absolutely no crumbles. It doesnt flake or have crums at all. When dh saw what it did he said it must be some sort of polyurethane coating!:lmao: I have no clue what it is or if its legal in this country but it works wonders! You can buy it at Joann's or Michaels. I think wal Mart might even have it in the cake decorating section. I wont bake anything without it now.

DS7 was chatting with me in my office here, and spied my bag with the basketball print material.

DS: What's that?
Me: Ummm... Material.
DS: What for?
Me: A project.
DS: Oh. When are ya gonna make it?
Me: Well, I sort of need a sewing machine first. Then I'll make it.
DS: Oh.

Whew, interest lost! I wanted to surprise the boys with them once they were done! I found some thin black t-shirts and these basketball-shaped iron-on nail head type thingies to put on the black tee, to go with the matching pj bottoms. I think they'll make a really cute pj set! Of course they may need to go up a size before I get them made at this rate...

Is it some sort of Pam-like spray? Or a powder you sprinkle in the pan before baking??? I've never heard of it!

ADR's are huge at WDW. HUGE! There are so many places to eat with different themes. That does put DL to shame. Although there is more space obviously so that has to be one of the factors.

I remember working the dining hotline and these people would literally stress and cry over changing a dining reservation made 6 months in advance.

I think many of the TR's work through the where are we going when and which ADR to keep and which to change. Also they talk a lot about their outfits etc. :confused3

I have 2 rubbermaid containers of fabric I bought after getting so excited to sew. Dh's pirate costume came out fantastic but I've been nervous to do anything else. dont know why. If it doesnt work try again right? still nervous though.:lmao:

It looks like this

You flip the little lid up and squeeze it onto the pan. then you spread it around like you might butter or pam that was sprayed in one area. Its a liquid.

I did notice people talk a lot about changing their ADRs. And how difficult they can be to book. So if they're that difficult to book, why would you change them once they're made??? :confused3

Is it a case of people constantly changing their mind? That would just be a scheduling nightmare, I would think!

I know I changed my mind on a couple of PSes, and that DL only has a limited number of places. But I changed them to allow us to make a certain parade/show, or when a better time became available. Some people make it sound like they change things around constantly before the trip, that would drive me NUTS!
