ALEX!!!
I haven't heard thunder with our storm, not sure if I just missed it, as it is pretty typical with our monsoons. I much prefer though to see the rain before I see the lightning, living in a wooded area I am kind of freaked out about fires :sad2:
We don't get thunderstorms very often, so both boys are pretty freaked out by it. Especially DS7, who doesn't like loud noises of any kind. Last year was the first time he watched fireworks without wearing protective ear covers. And the only reason he wasn't wearing them was because his brother had them.

:lmao: I guess they would be pretty scary if you are not used to them. We have "monsoon" season from July - August (roughly) where we get a thunderstorm every night. Where we live now they come about midday, and you can pretty much count on them all the time. In the valley (where we used to live) about 4pm every night you see the clouds roll in, get a huge dust storm, and with it being so hot you watch and hope that rain will fall, but it is not nearly as much of a guarantee there.

Alas, my rain has stopped :sad2: :sad2: :sad2: Hopefully it will find you Shawna :goodvibes

That sounds so funny to me. We beg for the rain to stop, you beg for it to rain! :rotfl:

But I do remember living in Northern California and hoping it would rain in the summer. The days were soooo hot and dry, and there were wild fires almost every night. Our area had lots of big, dry grassy hillsides, so anything would set off a fire; then the alarms would sound for the volunteer fire department, and we'd all watch the glowing hillside from our homes. Then in the day you just saw a big black lump where dried yellow grass hillside used to be. :sad1:

I know - but you have no idea how jealous I am with your rain and overcast every day  .

We had a very, very bad fire 6 years ago. It started as two fires (one set by an ignorant woman, and I believe the other set by a firefighter hoping for more work). The fires started 15 miles apart and eventually merged, the worst fire in AZ ever. It is still sad today, driving from the valley up to Show Low you still drive through the burnt remains. I know our town was evacuated for several days - thinking it could have consumed the whole town, but fortunately they got it under control in time.

Wow, how scary! How long did it burn?

You hear about fires that burn for weeks on end, and it's just so hard to imagine. And then you hear about forest land the size of major cities being scorched because of it, and it's freakish to think of something that size being burned to the ground!

Hey guys. Quck hello.

Dizzy, 2 days ago it looked VERY promising for rain but nothing came. They just fizzle once it gets in the valley. sigh.

Alex, read this, it was amazing. Over 467,000 acres of land burned. :scared1: I remember just crying when it was happening because the high country of AZ is the reason I LOVE this state.

It burned over three weeks - but it was an extremely dry and windy summer and it looked for a while that it would take out the whole community that I now live in. Businesses still have thank you's to the fire fighters that helped out. I know they said it was the size of 4 of our big cities - just a huge span of land. They started 15 miles apart, so they had to meet, and then once they did they just took our forests by storm :headache:

The worst part was both fires were human caused by people being stupid

   That was the worst part. One set by a fireman and one set by a lost hiker like you said. How STUPID. Signal fires are NOT a good idea in AZ. :sad1: :sad1: :sad1:

Hey Shawna - hopefully today's will make it to you, you still have a couple of hours!!!

Oh it was so sad, wasn't it Shawna. We would sit and watch the news, and the updates just crying at how bad it was. We were glued to the tv like no other event hoping it would be put out soon :sad1:

No kidding, at least the fireman got jail time. Stupid hiker though, I sure hope she moved out of state

Yep same here. I remember everyone talking about it. That was terrible. Do you know how close it came to where you live now?

I know the town of Show Low was evacuated, but it didn't get into town. Linden is the town right before Show Low (it all runs together), and I am pretty sure that is where the fire stopped - so probably about 15 minutes away :faint:

Its crazy because most of the people we work with were born and raised here, and it is crazy hearing their stories of the evacuation. I know how freaked out I was in Gilbert, I can't imagine being that close :scared1:

Yikes close enough. :scared1:

Ok I have to go get Morgan. I promise when I go camping I'll put my fire out!!!

Not at all that is a HUGE town to be evacuated. Not like some of these other towns they evacuate that have like 400 people living in it that I have never heard of. WOW. I remember the footage of the evacuation. Crazy.

I remember there was this huge fire in So Cal years ago, started by a guy hauling a trailer. Maybe it was a camper hauling a trailer? Anyway, he was a vacationer, and one of the wheels on the trailer had blown unknownst to the driver. It finally got down to the metal rim on the road, which caused sparks to fly off it, which touched off little fires along his path.

Several people travelling the freeway alongside him were honking and shouting at him, and he just ignored them and kept on driving. Finally one guy force him off the road, but by then these little fires had grown into an enormous one in the guy's wake. The idiot said, "Well YEAH people were honking and flashing their lights and yelling at me, but I didn't know why, so I just kept driving." :headache:
