My DH's company is thinking abut relocated us to Chattanooga area. I am on the disboards a lot and I don't see a lot of people from that area. What if Chattanoogaens don't like WDW :confused3 . Well I know that can NOT be the case. I was wondering if anyone lives there? And what are the goods and the bads of the area? We have lived in WI our WHOLE LIVES  . I know some dissers have strong view points so give it to me popcorn:: I think I am ready .;) Thanks!

We do not live there but we vacationed there after years of driving through on our way to disney..........just think you will be MUCH closer to Disney:) We really loved our trip to Chattanooga!

I live about 15 minutes from Chattanooga, but I am there all the time. Chattanooga is where I eat, shop, and go to the doctor. It is a really nice town and a good place to raise a family. Housing is pretty reasonable as opposed to most moderate sized cities. Close enough to Knoxville and Atlanta in case you fly a lot, but they also have an airport that now has flights to Orlando!! LOTS of outdoor activities to do. Pretty much something going on every weekend somewhere. Check out www.chattanoogahasfun.com . Crime is about average and maybe even lower than most places. Schools are pretty good from what I hear especially the private schools if you can afford one..(I WISH we could).

Not to mention "It's GREAT to be a TENNESSEE VOL" :cheer2:

If you have any other questions feel free to ask or PM me!!!

Thanks for the website, looks like great information. I have a couple questions: do you guys have a lot of doctors to choose from? do you have a family Rec center (my idea of a family rec center is like a gym but with a things to do, like a indoor swimming and classes, and onsite child care)? Thanks for your help.

I just moved to Dickson, TN from Wisconsin myself. I do not know the area very well but wanted to say welcome to another Wisconsinite. :) The weather down here is wonderful. ;)

How long ago did you move? Was this your first winter in TN? I can't tell you how sick of WI winters I am. .

We LOVE Chattanooga...live about 2 hrs away and visit at least once/twice a year...kid's beg us to go there; Rock City, Lookout Mt, TN Aquarium...so much to love:)

Do you normally drive to WDW when you go? Since it's not that far. Do like the weather in TN?

Yes, we drive. It is about a ten hour drive. When we took the kids, we drove all night long. DH works nights, had worked the night before we left, so he slept that day like normal. We left home around midnight.

This year, we plan on staying the night 1/2 down, maybe around Valdosta, Ga, so we will only have a few hours to go when we get up the next morning. :goodvibes

Weather~We really do have *four* seasons. ;)

We have the Galen Group www.galenmedical.com ...These dr.'s treat myself, my husband, my children, delivered both of my children, my mother and my mother in law go to these doctors as well...they are EXCELLENT!!!!

Not sure about a family rec center, but there are several YMCA's in Chattanooga and yes they all offer childcare, swim lessons, etc. There are other gyms in Chattanooga, but I use the YMCA in the town I live in.

Winters here are not that bad. This winter was the worst we have had in a long time as far as temps go. I think it got down to 9 degrees one night . It rarely snows and we might get an occasional dusting or icy patch here and there. I will say that if the weather even thinks about getting a bit crazy they will shut down all the school systems in a heartbeat..The whole month of February my kids were out at least once a week for either low temps, snow (we got less than a dusting), ice, too much rain, and wind (yes wind..lol)!!!

Thanks so much for all the helpful information! It's a great help! I think knowing that TN has a YMCA close would work for us :) And the doctor thing makes me feel more comfortable too.

I was laughing about the wind comment. We live about 50 mins from Chicago "the windy city" so we know about wind and it doesn't bother us. I have been reading a lot about the winter weather in TN, so I know you guys have a winter but not like ours. It was 6 degree when I went to work this morning. I think someone forgot to tell mother nature it's March ;) We live at the bottom of the state and the last two winters we have gotten more than 100 inches of snow  !

I don't know if you know anything about the town we are specifically looking at Ooltewah, TN. Do you know anything about it?

Thanks again for all your help!

I live in Chattanooga, and I love it! We are a great outdoors city. There are water sports on the lake, biking, climbing, hanggliding, and many more recreational activities. You mentioned Ooltewah - it has some great neighborhoods and is near Lake Chickamauga, which is actually part of the TN river. The new VW plant that they have just started building is just to the south of Ooltewah, so I am sure that the area will be growing. I think the schools there are good, as well. There are also a lot of private schools in Chattanooga that are highly regarded.
We drive to WDW and it takes us 9-1/2 hours. We usually only stop twice, so that helps keep the time down.

Oh, yeah, there are a TON of annoying Vols fans, but you don't have to be! WAR EAGLE!

Hi! Glad to hear another fellow disser who may soon be located in Chattanooga!

I currently live in Dayton, which is about 45 minutes north of Chattanooga. I went to college in Chattanooga, lived there for a few years, and my husband still works there at the Chamber of Commerce.

Chattanooga is a great place to live! The weather is incredible, the city is great, and it is really beginning to grow (VW just decided to construct their first American plant here!) It has been voted by several reputable magazines as one of the top towns to live in (2nd in one magazine and 1st in another).

Right now my job is in Dayton, but we plan to one day relocate back to Chattanooga, or at least to a suburb of the city. We still attend church there and spend most of our weekends in Chattanooga. There is so much to do!

Check out this website and decide for yourself:

I'll try to answer any questions that I can, so feel free to ask away!

Just saw that you were looking at Ooltewah, and wanted to add that due to the new VW plant coming which will be close to Ooltewah, if you purchase a home there in the next few months, it is almost guaranteed that your home value will skyrocket in the next 3-5 years!!! Just a little extra incentive!

I love the Ooltewah area. It is a small town between Chattanooga and Cleveland (which is where I live). You have a few schools, a few grocery stores, a brand new Wal-Mart, a few fast food places, Cracker Barrel and a few family owned restaurants, a police station, post office and that is about it. Nice little town without all the hustle and bustle of a bigger city. Lots of farm land and as others have mentioned with the new VW plant coming to town it will expand quickly. If you go to the Chattanooga Craigslist you will see lots of homes for sale in that area.

Thanks for all your help everyone. I think that we are going to be just fine ;) You have really giving us great detailed information and that is really helpful. We have heard a lot about the VW plant. When are they opening? My DH will have a job (DUH I guess I already told you that) but I will be looking for a small job, maybe I should look into that. I have worked for the same company for 10 years and I will totally miss it but I am excited for a change (and nervous).

I love Dissers you are soooooo helpful!:cheer2:

VW plant is supposed to be operational in 2010. Lots of factories in Chattanooga and surrounding areas.

Not to mention "It's GREAT to be a TENNESSEE VOL" :cheer2:

Love those Tennessee Vols!!!!!
We lived in Nashville for a while. Winters were the best. Everyone else wore their parkas and I used the outer part of my Columbia coat. LOL
We loved Tennessee and Chattanoga. There's nothing like driving through the hills. Ruby Falls was amazing.
And, whoever mentioned Cracker Barrel..... Yum, I'm hungry now. I just love their breakfasts. Expecially the syrup. Oh, why did we decide to fly this trip!?!?!?!? sigh......
