Chase closed my (used to be WaMu) credit card....

My DH just was notified they are decreasing his limit. They give the reason that we have too much new debt in 24 months. The only thing new is we REFINANCED our car loan, initiating a new loan yes but paying off the old one!:confused3 Yes we have used it more lately but we have never paid late, always paid more the min, he was still 1500 away from the limit? I have never been a fan of chase I liked wamu so much better! Plus we had the credit check every month.

For grins and giggle, I got both my husband and myself's Experian credit report.

No where does it show CHASE looked at, reviewed, or anything, our reports. No notation at all. I can see other notations, when the report was touched - but none by CHASE.

As an FYI - it shows all our accounts in good standing. ALL of them, Chase and every other one. There are no blemishes on our reports.

For super grins and giggles, I then called Experian ( 1-888-397-3742 ). Perhaps it just didn't show up yet... Nope - Chase hasn't touched our reports. And according to the dude I talked to, I'm not the first person to have called and asked them. Hmmm...

CHASE is completely and blatantly lying about this. This had nothing to do with them 'reviewing' our accounts.

I pulled DH's as well and found the same thing. They are lying, plain and simple. I just don't appreciate being shamed at the check out when it was declined, even after I checked online where it shows available credit. For those of you with it showing active online, I would be interested to know what happens when you try to use it... ;)

Ok, with that info Cathryn I would imagine that SOMEthing can be done, because my letter stated they checked with Experion too. I'm so calling Experion tonight.....

Oh and I used my Disney Visa at lunch today, just to check, it went thru no problems and really fast!

No, he doesn't know jack about anything. He got it completely backwards. They will only be allowed to raise rates on those that don't pay or pay late. They will no longer able to rate-jack those in good standing.

Yeah, cry me a river!

I guess part of the issue is that they are raising rates now, lowering limits and closing accouts in good standing. All of these (except the higher rate I guess) lower credit ratings. By the time the new laws take effect most all might have lower credit ratings partially due to the lower credit limits and the credit card companies either closing or basically making you close their accouts.

I would write all the regulatory boards for Chase or any other bank doing this. Maybe something can be done. My daughter's Chase (WaMu) account was closed, no letter nothing. She had no balance but used the card in order to keep it active. It was a long standing CC so she really wanted to keep it. It's really a shame what the CC companies are doing to hurt peoples credit. We should all just try to pay them off for good and then they won't have the high interest income that is almost robbery!!

Hi All,
I did a search on the Clark Howard website about Chase Bank and saw plenty of people complaing about it on there. One lady even posted a link to a law firm in New York that is handling a case against Chase for charging people fees, raising APR's and not honoring agreements they made with customers. It might be something you can look in to if you are interested. If you go to Clark's website and search Chase Bank click on the article titled "Chase trying to force customers out of fixed-rate cards" and then scroll down to the one that says "Chase Class Action Lawsuit Info." Maybe they can have the tables turned on them afterall.

Also, I got a letter today from my Merrick Bank cc telling me they were upping my APR to 25.95% as of July 31st and if I am not in agreement with it I have to pay off the balance IN FULL and then close it. What happened to having the option of leaving it where it's at and closing it but still paying it off? They are all going to put the screws to us, no doubt. I can't believe Congress would wait so long to put this thing in effect knowing full well we're going to really suffer the consequences until then.

Good Luck to Everyone!
Lisa

I have a question for those former WAMU customers who got whacked by Chase:

Did you recently pay off the balance prior to their closing the account?

We paid off the balance last month.

My daughter had a zero balance but used the card and paid it off each month in full. No letter, just no new card from Chase! She called and they had no real reason.

I have read several pages of this thread, but was wondering if anyone's Disney Card has been closed (I didn't see any). I received a letter today telling me they are raising my interest rate, that it is now a variable rate, and that they can close my account for any reason. I,too, pay off my balance every month. I wonder if they are dumping the people that they make no (or little) interest on???

This one, no. I primarily used this one for "fun" stuff... clothes, dinners, out to the movies, we bought a plasma TV on it, Disney souveniers, things like that.....and I would run it up, then pay it down but always left it in that 1000-ish range (balance).

That being said, my Disney Chase Visa, I did send them a few thousand payment (to get it all prepped for my upcoming trip) and then rec'vd a letter dated the day after my payment posted that my credit line was decreased (to an amount you can barely squeak a trip on)

As of yesterday my Providian<WaMU<Chase card was still open. I am so nervous though. We recently paid it off, it is my largest and my oldest credit card. It is my only card with a large amount of money availavble to me (10K), my other card is a gas card (2k avail). If Chase closes the card it will bring my credit down and I have worked hard to keep it good (high 700's). This is frustrating waiting for the axe.

Also it will mess up our car rental next week as that is the card I was going to use and you have to have more money available if you use just a debit card.

Oh, I hear you. It makes me mad. It was the back up one. As I said, I used it primarily for 'junk' - those "Oooo, I want that!" things - but would pay that stuff off.

This was the one I could use if Charley (my dog) had an emergency. This was the one I planned on bringing to Florida as "A Hurricane blew through the state and now I am stuck here" one. It had $7000 available on it - and it would have been more in the coming months.

Not to mention the hit our credit scores will take. :headache:

There is this Coach purse I have been eyeballing. This one:

I kept looking at it, and my husband would tell me "Just get it!" and I was like "No way.... $550....no way!" trying to "do the right thing". I certainly didn't need to put a $550 purse on a credit card, you know?

Now, quite frankly, I wish I had. My card would be closed, but I'd have a cool purse to show for it.

WOW, this post caught my eye since this just happened to me this month. I didn't know it was an epidemic and I was wondering why I was chosen.

My card was originally Prov/then Wash. Mutual/then Chase.

I had my available credit cut in half, then the interest hike and then it was closed. I had nothing on it and had not charged one thing since it became Chase. It was my oldest card and I was ticked off. When I called, the answers I got seemed to be read off a cue card and they wouldn't budge.

Now I am really mad but don't feel so bad.

I came home today to a letter from Chase stating they are raising the interest on my Disney Visa. I'm so sad.....I have a feeling that even with my excellent payment history with CHASE itself (not to mention Pro/WaMu) this one will be closed soon. I'm going to cash in my rewards and just wait. It does say I have until October to decide, hopefully I'll the balance paid off by then. :(

I'm curious about this. I had loads of dollars I called last night (which BTW, Iwill say Chase Disney Visa was, not only an American, but incredibly nicer than the multiples jerks I spoke to, regarding the WaMu/Chase debacle) and had all those dollars moved over to that gift card they give you.

Will that card still be worth anything, if they indeed go and close it?? Should I order something online with these points?

I'd be a little ticked if I lost these points, too.

Ummm.... BTW - from reading online about the mess this thread is about, I've seen several items regarding the Chase Disney Visa sending out letters that are increasing APR's. It looks like another 'wave' has begun. :yay:

:sad2:

I did pay off the balance just days prior to them closing it. However, the balance was less than 5% of the available credit That was a pretty typical balance. It's not like it was ever much above 10% of the available credit. For what it's worth...I pulled my experian report too - nothing from Chase. I would think it would have shown up by now...they closed it on 7/7.

Hi All,
I can't believe Congress would wait so long to put this thing in effect knowing full well we're going to really suffer the consequences until then.

When has the government ever done anything in a timely manner?

And if they do things to quick, there are holes in whatever it was they passed and things get even worse.

Add me to the list of people that are now getting the letter for the Chase Disney Visa about raising the APR's and lowering the credit limit. It states that I have until October to decide. I too don't ever carry a balance and always pay in full every month. I loved this card since it helped pay for our food and shopping on our Disney trips. It's sad that us people that are in good standing with everything are the ones that always get burned.

This is the reason(s) that I did not open a Disney Visa. As long as it is with Chase, it's not going to happen.

I had my car loan through Chase and it was a miserable experience. I was never so glad to finish paying off my car!

Of course, my mortgage was with WaMu, but so far, Chase has not really done anything. I still make my payments to WaMu. I was definitely not happy to hear Chase was taking over.

I try to escape Chase and they keep finding me!!
