Chase closed my (used to be WaMu) credit card....

Now I'm almost scared to try to use my card in the future. We just used it as payment when we were at SSR last week and had no problems. I planned on paying it off this month for the full balance of $2500 owed and then just putting it in the safe. Now i think that will get me canceled if I am not already :(

When Chase bought Wamu my card had about 3000 on it (it was my last big credit card that I was paying off since grad school and getting full time at work, no other credit card debt except for a rewards card that is paid off every month)

I had been with this card since it was Providian, huge credit limit, always paid on time, my APR was 5.99 yep that was my total interest. Chase notified me they were reviewing and bumped me up to 16.99 APR. This was the starting month of the new credit.

So as of today I paid off the total balance (around 1600 that they would have continued making money on for another 6 months). What's dumb...they just gave me a Disney Visa with 9% APR...hello I'm worthy of 9% but you have to bump my 5.99 to 16.99.

Chase is so shooting themselves in the foot.

I'm going to share my WaMu/Chase story!

I made a math error of $6.50 and CHASE took out $90 in fees. It was my first mistake/overdraft. The money was in the account within hours as I did an online transfer from savings and I had a direct deposit that day. Yes, it was my mistake but it should have been $30 per their paperwork. I called and argued my case to no avail. (It was because of they way they apply debits to an account in their favor.)

The next day, my Providian/then Wamu/then Chase credit card notifies me that they are raising my interest to 29.9% just because they are losing money in this economy.

Then, they froze my checking account and debit card because some guy copied my card and went on a shopping spree in Toys R Us and they didn't tell me. I found out by trying to use the card. It had been closed for three days before I found out about the fraud, and they refused to tell me why and wouldn't even let me know how they found out.

So, I go into CHASE to close my accounts. By this time, I had transferred my money out from saving into my checking and I wrote big checks to get the balance down. I had $85 left in my account and told the clerk I wanted to close my accounts. She asked why, so I told her that I didn't appreciate how I got dinged $90 PLUS the interest rate hike on the credit card plus the poor handling of the fraud case.

She had the nerve to tell me that the two (meaning CHASE and CHASE) were really not the same company, that the credit card CHASE and the CHASE that enforces the account fees were not the same CHASE as my brick and mortar bank.

So, I asked for my money in quarters.

We had a Chase Disney rewards card had a $1000.00 balance before our recent WDW trip we sent $700.00 in so we could charge our Disney AP's and get the reward points, they took the $700.00 credited our account then dropped our available credit line down $700.00 to $900.00 available. Said it was due to length of time we have had our card. At the time we had it little over 2 years NEVER late and was very glad to have it. now I would trade it for a card that gives airline mileage instead. CHASE is dirty and rotten....

I would check your credit report- all 3 and your spouses to see. I keep a close eye on all of mine after some issues with identity theft.. anyhow- it will be up to date with whoever has inquired into your credit report and will show you any accounts that are closed, etc.. I personally have not had Chase check mine since May 2008. Now in July I have had BOA so far check mine. Today I received a offer from BOA to refinance with them:confused3 not sure if that was it our what but nothing surprises me anymore with these companies..

well, you all win. I have a chase used-to-be wamu card and i called today. the first rep said that my account was open, and they wouldnt be closing it. I said 'in the next 30 days' no. 'how about in the next 60 days' he said no. Then it was dead air. I called again and got a young lady who read me the scripted answer about how some, not all, of the wamu cards were closed, based on information gathered from their credit reports. This most recent closure was an annual report. She said my account was very much open, and in no danger of being closed. She then went on to the cardsafe script, which really annoyed me, because at that point i had a preminition, that they were gonna sell me this cardsafe, and then close the account. Dont ask me why, but on a knee jerk, i asked her what it would take to close the account today. She asked for a reason and i told her i wasnt confident that they wouldnt be closing my account in the near future, and i want to close it before they do. So, now, case closed.
My wife has a chase card with a higher limit, anyway. No need for two cards..why take the chance.

I'm on hold right now, on the 3rd phone call - speaking with a supervisor.

In my OP on this thread, I stated they were willing to drop my percentage rate back down to what it was before they increased - BUT what I did not tell you was I was supposed to call on the 21st to have this done, as it would be noted in my account, and I had to wait for the account to "cycle"

Anyone wanna take a wild guess as to what happened on calls #1 and #2 - and the trip to the local bank, where they also called for us???

Come on! Guess!!!

They can't do that. They can not lower it. :headache:

ALRIGHT UPDATE ---- The supervisor on call #3 spoke with their Senior Manager. The Senior Manager apparently 'approved' the decrease, and we should be getting a letter.

I'm still waiting for the letter that tells me my account has been closed. So, I won't be holding my breath. :sad2:

So. now I will wait and see what my statement says.

How frustrating. What a bunch of crooks. :sad2::mad:

I wonder if anyone who used to have a WaMu *still* has a card.

OR

If anyone who only had ever had a CHASE card, has had their card closed.

Hmmm.......

This is certainly nothing new for Chase. My husband had 3 chase cards, one including a Disney chase. We had never paid them late, always on time even if it was just the minimums. Last May (2008) they closed all three of our accounts without warning, citing not enough credit history as the reason. Better yet, they never sent my husband a letter and when I paid over 3,000 dollars on the Disney Visa (we had not used it in months) it showed that we had that in available credit afterwards!

We went to use the card the next week and all three were denied. After calling and having it out with the customer service rep that was less than helpful and actually pretty snotty we found out that they had closed the accounts in May!!

We'll never do business with Chase again after that. It was well over 20,000 dollars in available credit that was taken away from my husband without warning.

FYI for anyone calling....

They have a script answer when you ask to speak to their supervisor, which includes the supervisor will not be able to do anything for you, either. Which they will recite to you, 2-3 times before they put you through. Annnnd....they might even disconnect you, when they do it.

Great Customer Service, aye?

It seems credit card companies are trying to destroy any good credit left!! Funny that a few months ago we received an offer to open a new Chase Disney Visa and receive a 100 gift card!! My husband did so while I referred him, 2 completely seperate accounts, I received a $25 Disney Dollar Bonus!! I have my Disney Visa that I have been using lately just to earn the Disney Dollars, hope they don't start messing with it. I think the rate is still around 10%, I don't pay interest since I pay off any balance (except zero for vacation packages) every month.

Wow, it isn't just us then....interesting how many people they are doing this to!! DBF's card is still good. I wonder if we do have basis for a class action case?

Well, DH got the dreaded letter today for his account. I still haven't gotten one for mine, but I really wouldn't be surprised to see one coming soon. Both accounts are still showing up online as open and as having available credit.

What irks me is that we have never been over the limit, always paid more than the minimum, and have never been late. We are being penalized for being customers in good standing. As far as I'm concerned, good riddance!

My feelings exactly. This is my next to pay off....should be gone in a month or 2.

I would write a letter to the Dept. of Banking in the state you live in on this. It may or may not help, but I can't imagine this is a good practice for a bank. Also, the FCIC. Banks are regulated and the regulatory agencies should be aware of what's going on. The Federal Reserve Board is where the Bank holding companies report a Y9 quarterly and the FCIC receives the Call report.

I am in the process of closing all my Chase accounts. I can no longer in good conscience continue to carry their card not knowing if it will work the next time I try to use it.

Today Wamu customers, tomorrow they will start on the next batch of customers. I cant afford to be caught on the side of the road, in an emergency situation or on vacation and trust that Chase will come through.

So although they have not closed any of our accounts, I have lost all confidence in doing business with them and dont think they are worth the slot in my wallet!

I just transferred the last of my DISVIsA rewards to a card and will be closing that too. I will check into hotels with my debit if I have to and the front desks still take cash.

That link you posted CathrynRose is astounding and alarming!:scared1:

DH has a Chase card, formerly a WAMU card, that is still open. I guess it is probably only a matter of time until the hammer drops...

WELL... today was the day. Even though I checked online to determine that there was credit available, we were MORTIFIED when we attempted to use the card formerly known as WAMU and it was DECLINED. I said, "Honey, they are talking about this on the DIS. I know EXACTLY what has happened."

Got home and called, got the ol' "We reviewed your account on 7/14 and blah blah blah." Translation: We decided to close your account and not let you know in any way, shape, or form. In fact, we didn't even update the website.

I just sent that sucker through the shredder. Good riddance.

UGH!

I still don't have a letter, does anyone?

I have a j.c penny card which you can also use at cvs. I used it to get my meds when I was low on cash. Went in cvs one day to get my meds and a few other food items and my card was declined. I always send them payment before it is due, and never been late on a payment. I was so embarrassed in that store. I had to walk out with nothing and leave all my stuff for them to put back on the shelf. J.C penny had closed my account no reason given. And did not tell me just left me to look like a fool. Then it gets worse I took my prescription to target and cvs refused to transfer the prescription. I told the lady at the counter that I was calling them on my cell which I did. I said I came in your store to buy the meds from you and my credit card was declined. Now you have only one option that is to transfer this medicine to target right now. They finally did transfer the med. Cvs wanted me to buy from them which I tried to do. I will not shop there again ever. I will pay off that card and tell them to shove it.
