I haven't seen a thread devoted to the Tim Burton/ Johnny Depp Charlie and the Chocolate Factory on the DIS, did I miss it?

I can't wait until July 15!!

As a huge fan of Roald Dahl I can't think of anyone as twisted and like minded s Tim Burton to make this movie.

(As much as I love Gene Wilder, the 1971 movie version was not true to the book.)

Thus far, here is my most anticipated scene:

LOVE the Bad Nut stuff!! :rotfl:

Oh, and here is the not fully online interactive site that you might have missed if you only went to the WB site with the trailer and the poster:

Am I alone here in my obsessive anticipation for this film?

oh, i am SO ready for this movie! I love both johnn depp and tim burton.

I can't wait! I love the original, but I think Johnny is going to rock! It's exactly the quirky kind of role he's suited to. Hope its as good as it looks!

yay! kindred spirits!

One thing I noticed was that the movie will again only have a single parent with each child. I guess it's just not feasible to do it like the book, with every child accompanied by both parents, leaving little Charlie looking that much more forlorn with Granpa Joe.

I wonder if Charlie will have both parents in the movie? Mr. Bucket works for a toothpaste factory, screwing the lids on. Remember?

So what are your favorite parts of the book?

Thanks for that link! I am beyond psyched for this movie! Anything Tim Burton does is brilliant :teeth:

You have NO idea how excited I am!!

I LOVE WILLY WONKA AND THE CHOCOLATE FACTORY

I LOVE JOHNNY DEPP

Could I be any happier? I will be happier on July 15th!!!! :cheer2:

I usually get excited about any Tim Burton film, but I am especially excited about this one.

I have just realized that whenever I think about Charlie and the Chocolate Factory for some reason Mary Poppins songs start to play in my head... Hmmm....

I have a funny Willy Wonka story.

About 2 years ago, my DS was 3 and DD was 5. We had just watched Willy Wonka and we were in KMART when DH spotted a WONKA bar.

Being the deranged parent that I am, I decided to announce to the kids that we were buying a bar and I hoped we unwrapped a golden ticket. I waited until we got in the car and unwrapped it. As you may know the inner wrapper is gold. I shouted with glee as I "discovered" the golden ticket!!

Both of my kids instantly locked the doors and screamed, "GO DADDY GO, he will find us, GO!!!!!" They cried the whole way home and DH and I could not help but laugh. Thankfully it was a 5 minute ride. When we got home we explained that we had not really won and that that scary man would not be coming to take us to Wonkaville.

It is a family story that the kids don't think is funny even to this day. DS(now 5) heard the music of the website when I clicked on the link and came running. When he saw it was for Willy Wonka he just gave me that look. I showed him the silhouette of the "winner" of the golden ticket and told him it could be him. He didn't think that was such a great idea! :rotfl:

You should remind them that scary man makes you come to HIM -- it's the parents that subject you to him!

I still get the giggles about the the fact that Willy Wonka is so clearly a description of a body part but it seems to be ignored. It's like the elephant in the room.

:lovestruc ::yes::

This movie will be just what I will need, when I will need it! It will come out a few days after we get back from our trip to WDW. So I'll need something to make me happy again after having to leave WDW. :cheer2:

I never did read the book...

Guess I should :confused3

;)

yeah, I actually don't remember if I did either.
maybe I just read "the glass elevator" or something like that.

hmm...would it be best to read the book before seeing this movie? or just go in knowing what I've seen from 'Willy wonka'?

I'm pretty sure the "glass elevator" is part of a series...not totally sure...and now that you mention it, I think my kids have that one already.

:scratchin It seems I just gave myself a searching mission for this evening ;)

READ THE BOOK!!!

The 1971 film isn't going to prepare you!

And the book is so wonderful. Really twisted.

(That's got to be better prep for the Tim Burton / Johnny Depp outing!)

What you may remember from the film that is NOT in the book:
No breaking into song by the humans (Oompa Poompahs, yes, people, no)
No Fizzy lifting drinks
No geese who lay the golden eggs
No Wonka Washing car
No "test" at the end that Charlie fails (see no Fizzy drinks)

And if you read the sequel (Charlie and the Great Glass Elevator). . .I'm sorry. :sad2: It is TERRIBLE in comparison to CatCF. Roald should have JUST SAID NO. Still, Dahl mediocre is better than many children's books. . .

Oh, meant to mention, 'The Great Glass Elevator' is only the sequel to the first book, not one of a series.

Willy Wonka: Going up? This an ingenious invention that I call the Wonkavator.
Grandpa Joe: It looks like an elevator to me.
Willy Wonka: Yes but elevators only go up. The Wonkavator goes up, down, sideways and every other which way you can think of going.
Charlie Bucket: Wow.

Veruca Salt, the little brute,
Has just gone down the garbage chhute,
(And as we very rightly thought
That in case like this we ought
To see the thing completetly through,
We've polished off her parents, too.)
Down goes Veruca! Down the drain!
And here, perhaps, we should explain
That she will meet as she descends,
A rather different set of friends
To those that she has left behind --
These won't be nearly so refined.
A fish head, for example, cut
This morning from a halibut.
'Hello! Good morning! How d'you do?
How nice to meet you, how are you?'
And then a little further down
A mass of others gather round:
A bacon rind, some rancid lard,
A loaf of bread gone stale and hard,
A steak that nobody could chew,
An oyster from an oyster stew,
Some liverwurst so old and gray
One smelled it from a mile away,
A rotten nut, a reeky pear,
A thing the cat left on the stair. . .
