Charging your mobile phone

Hoping someone can help. At Easter we took our mobiles - Orange PAYG - they worked fine in the USA as they are triband. However, the problem we had was that our chargers wouldn't work even with a plug adaptor so we couldn't use them after the initial charge had run out. I guess it was something to do with the voltage difference and we had two different chargers - Nokia and Motorola. Do we need to buy a special phone charger while we are in the USA to get our phones to charge? Any help gratefully received.

Most phone chargers are now 110 - 250 v capable, it will say on the plug if it is. What do your phone chargers say for voltage? If it is only 220 - 250v then you will need a transformer to step the voltage up.

You can buy a charger in Walmart for about $15 if yours is the wrong voltage.

My charger says input 230 so I guess this was the problem, can't check DH's at the moment as he has it at work.

How about an in-car charger? That's what I intend to take.

We had problem with Motorola V220. I bought US charger off ebay, link below to first one I came across, $9 delivered to UK. 2 years ago I got wall charger delivered for $5 inclusive they even sent a free in car charger with it.
I rang Motorola and they said majority of their phones worked OK in US but there was a compatability problem with a few models.

We've always just used our Nokia, UK, charger with no problems

Maybe it took a little longer to charge but that's all

Thanks for all your help. My phone is a Motorola V220. I will look at both travel charger and car charger before we go.

We have a US charger we bought when ours wouldn't work. We bought it at Walmart, and I'm sure it was about $7. One year we forgot to take it, so we bought one at a pharmacy (think CV's) and it was about $10.
