Charging to the room?

Okay, this may be a silly question BUT - Can we put cash on our room card so that we can just use our room card to charge things? That way we don't have to carry around so much cash or travelers checks. I know we can with a credit card but we are trying to live without one for awhile. We are trying to live by cash alone - I know that probably sounds crazy to some of you. It's too easy to overspend with credit cards. We're are really bad about that, ESPECIALLY at WDW. We would just like to like put cash on our room card if possible. ::MinnieMo

I believe this is possible - but I think you still need to have a credit card on the room.

We did this last October at YC Concierge.

We actually put down Disney Dollars and had room charging available on our keys.

The CM gave us a receipt for our deposit. It couldn't have been easier.

We spend far less when we do it this way.

At WL, the CM wanted to authorize our card for $1,500. We were only there for 3 nights. I declined.

We've used our MasterCard Debit card upon check-in for charging
on our room key.(Poly and YC concierge both)

Better than carrying around alot of cash!

I pay for our rooms and tickets before the trip with debitcard.
(Or AX, which is paid off 100% every month!)

And also during our trip!

That way, i can start planning another WDW trip when I get back...
instead of worrying how to pay for the last trip!:scratchin

That is exactly what we did last week. I didn't even have to present a credit card. We knew about how much we wanted to spend and that is what we gave them at check in. When we checked out, they refunded the difference.

Have fun!

Anne

If you use your debit card do they actually put a hold on the money or actually charge the money? Just curious... Also, what dollar amount do they put on it? I'm staying at the POP and intend on using cash also! No you're not crazy for wanting to use cash instead of CC. I too am trying to not use them at all ever again. It is too easy to overspend!

Ok, sorry don't mean to be slow, just need to clarify

I take a travel's cheque or my credit card or cash and I put a certain amount onto my room key and then I just use room key to charge.

So this would be good for counter service restaurants in the parks? or just bottles of water ? Just so I don't need cash in the parks. Bigger purchases like dinners can go right onto my credit card, but I don't want to buy a bottle of water with my credit card.

Does that make sense?

No... you're going to have to carry a little cash for all those little vending carts. They take only the green stuff, not even the rom card.

As for our Debitcard, at checkin, we hand it over, just like a credit card.
I think they debit your account daily, since many debitcards have a daily limit. (usually around $350, but I always call my bank before our WDW trip and tell them about what we'll be spending
and we'll be using our debit cards for resort charges.)

Never a problem, they authorize your account daily, at least that's what my last checkout bill showed.

Hope this helps!

You can do that, also.

I just wanted to step in and thank all of you for your replies. You have been a big help.

LuvsTink - Just to clarify, Did you use your debit card or just cash?
Have a great time for your DD birthday? How old will she be? My DD will be turning three on our trip in July.::MinnieMo
